Hey folks, I was confused and disappointed by the rework of the RWR (radar warning receivers) mechanics in the simulator mode. Now situational awareness has dramatically changed.
For example, RWR does not show friendly locks and erroneous launches ARH missles against you. Now you have no way to defend yourself from friendly fire.
Also, if you fly a French or Japanese F16, you cannot build ambushes in the rear of the blue side, because your emmiting is classified as enemy.
Also, if you see a dot in the sky, you don’t know whether it’s a friend or an enemy with the radar turned off.
Why gaijin did it ? Who asked them ? Why break something that worked well?
I miss the old RWR mechanics becouse it has become less realistic.
I would like everything to be returned as it was.
Any ideas ?
Toggle for filter friendly RWR would be nice, but I don’t see them ever going to the trouble.
Also yeah, I don’t like not knowing I’m being pinged by a friendly. Would be nice if they had just changed rwr symbology to mark friendlies with a triangle or diff color or something
So Russia and China vs the rest? Have fun in the 10:1 games.
You cant sort it by planes anymore since gaijin put so many foreign premiums in the game. Plus E/W germany, italy/hungary, ect.
Its all messed up.
What we need are fixed vehicle requirements for each team, like in ground SB, without the possibility to change teams once you entered the match.
@ topic: while this change is a loss of information on western RWRs, it make your life way easier in soviet aircraft. When you just get 10 pings from all directions without knowing the distance or aircraft type, the RWR is basically useless and you are blind. What equals a death sentence in a bvr scenario.
I know its not realistic, but in a realistic scenario soviet planes would rely on radar support from ground, which is not in the game. And we would have AWACS flying around. So I can live with this compromise, dispite it not beeing a perfect solution.
In realistic scenario you will be contaced only by radio in mig29 for example. Yes, su-27 have datalink screen.
Same for NATO, but with better datalink and NCTR.
In soviet RWR there still no way to IFF threat, in nato - by plane type.
I don’t see how this is a bad thing. It isn’t even realistic. If France or japan faced the USA irl with F-16s, guess what, their radars would be tuned differently to show IFF correctly.
I think that’s because the rwr can’t detect signals below or above the aircraft.
You have to be in level flight for a good indication.
Soviet RWRs are really crappy…
And the chaotic WT environment, where everyone flies around randomly and without communication, makes it extra difficult for them.
That’s why I’m positive about the recent rwr update. It may not be very realistic, but it offsets the also not realistic, but chaotic WT environment.
Have you played DCS or BMS, when F-16s play for both sides? Have you seen how RWR done there?
No, RWR cannot differentiate emmit into enemy or friendly. This is what AWACS does.
What the gaijin did was a total gag.
I will say more - in reality, the RWR often has a lot of false alarms, and the aircraft crews gets so annoyed that the RWR is turned off or the volume is reduced.
Then why do you talk about how the radar is tuned?
As seen here. What else would you mean than RWR? Because that gets the radar waves and would then use that to identify the plane as friend or foe (which doesn’t happen irl afaik)
Or do you mean the iff which is shown on your radar screen? By codes. You send a code you receive one and match them. The radar does not need to be tweaked. IFF irl doesn’t nearly work as perfectly as in WT… And DCS is even more far of.
But for the locking and tracking of planes there is no code send. The rwr doesn’t know if it got pinged by a friend or foe. Maybe it could for the iff interrogation but that would be once after that it no longer knows. So rwr iff would be kinda useless. You don’t get constantly interrogated.
So since you responded directly to a post that talked about the RWR knowing if you get pinged by a friendly. You know talking about tweaking radars very much looks like you were talking about the rwr.
