New Methods of Passive Protection (Flares)

As the post suggests, we are reaching a point in-time where we have very advanced Infared missles/long range infared missles. The current state of countermeasures have remained the same across the board and I have seen no past or present suggestions on upgrades to these systems.

As the corresponding image shows, there were upgrades to countermeasures made in order to counter IRCCM weapons.

This is just a reminder that if we’re going to keep evolving with weapons, we can’t leave their counters behind in the proccess.

Another thing to note, as you can see in this image, the Aim-9M with it’s filtering methods was not found partciuclary effective, based on how Soviet Large Caliber Countermeasures operated. Taking a much longer time to burn to high temperatures than American Flares, which made the 9M not particuarly effective at filtering out flares that burned hotter than the operational temeparature of the engines. Though I can’t say if this is actually modeled this way in-game as of current.

To close this, do you guys want to see the newer generations of Passive Protection against infared missles with the incorporation of newer generation flares, found on newer iterations of planes and helicopters?

most modern IR missile that most nations have access to is the aim-9m, which is from 1982, which is frankly insanse seeing as we have 2020s jets in game now.

im sure we will see more ECM and such in the future with modern IIR missiles. Hopefully BOL will be fixed to be as effective as it should be too

did the US go straight from the 9M to the 9X? I would love to have something that can perform against the R-73 but people are really set that the 9X would be just that much better to the point where we cannot have it within the current BR range (somehow…)

Yes, although between the 9M and 9X there were some experimental missile programs that never went into production. For example, there was a 9M tested with a new IIR seeker, but that never entered service. I believe they ended up using that IIR seeker for the 9X though.

yes but its not a direct jump from M to X in lineage

next update… idk actually maybe next update we will get aim9X for air expect the worst if your not maining USA

iir will hopefully come to everyone at the same time (id guess alongside F22 and F35) so that you get 9x VS mica VS ASRAAM VS whatever russia and china have

but if f15EX comes before 5th gen which it should COME VERY SOON because BVVD said no sooner than second half of this year so I’m hoping f15EX next work In progress which can carry a ton of aim9X but would r74 be fair idk and pl10 is what china and Russia would get I think

The USA would get the AIM-9X (obviously), the UK would get the ASRAAM, Italy, Germany, and Sweden would get the IRIS-T, Japan would get the AAM-5, France would get the MICA-IR, and Israel would get the Python 5. I’m not sure what China would get.

The funny thing is Russia does not even have any IIR missiles they could get. They could get the R-73M, which has an improved seeker over the R-73, but its not IIR. The R-74M has improved HOBS performance over the R-73 and it gets a further improved seeker over the R-73M, but still no IIR. And the R-74M2 is just an R-74M with its control surfaces trimmed down to fit inside of the SU-57s internal weapons bay, so still no IIR. Instead, those missiles just use a dual-band seeker, similar to the Chinese PL-5EII.
