INTRODUCTION
Here i present to you a suggestion and an idea for a new independent nation for Warthunder! This techtree consists of the three countries, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, with Norway being the primary nation of the techtree (As it is the nation with the most vehicles). There is a lot of interesting vehicles in this techtree, many of we would not see in a subtree, even if the “important” ones are added, so subtrees would in my opition be wasted potential.

There three nations has a long history together, and does make more sense to combine together than to jam everything into the Swedish/Finnish techtree. For over 434 years, Norway and Denmark were in an union together! this is an very very long time and has shaped our culture and values into what it is today, and it had an serious impact on our language as can be very noticeable to this day. But even before this, we had strong connections, as this is also the real “viking land”, this is a long story i cant write about here, but the ties with Iceland and Norway are deep, with Denmark too as once they were under Danish rule.

I am not saying this should be the next techtree to Warthunder, but i am saying this should be seriously considered before making any decision to implement subtrees.

    This is an improvised vehicle from April 1940 in Norway, there were two vehicles with minimal differences, but it should be justified to have them foldered together this early in the tree.

    Highly mobile vehicle wich would be a strong addition to this rank, it would strengthen the grind and be fun to play, it was used by norway for a while after the war.

    This is also a strong vehicle with firepower and mobility, would be a great grinder and this was also used by Norway a while after the war.

    This is a very very good vehicle, highly mobile and with great firepower. This would be an awesome reserve vehicle and ease the grind. this was used by norway for quite a while after the war, as recent as to the mid/late 1950’s.

And while i remember it, if they decide to add these nations there will be a dilemma, and this will go for some vehicles of all branches, not only the vehicle i am giving as an example below

Curtiss hawk 75A-6

lisence built/put together at kjeller in norway
Put into service just before the invasion in 1940, none of them could fight, since they had not recieved any ammunition yet.

So a couple managed to avoid being captured bu the germans, and were flown over to Great britain, and later put in service, i believe it was 5 machines

Then the others, around 15+ (norway had 24 of thiese planes) were taken/captured bu the Germans, and then they repainted it, with german camouflage, paint, swastikas, new radio etc, the machineguns were possibly replaced by some german ones

They were after the german configuration transferred to Finland, luftwaffe. From what i have understood they were used for training by Luftwaffe and then later, in 1941 Some (ca.13 planes) sold to Finland, not sure about the rest of their story

So, the question is;

Should it be added as a Norwegian plane only?
Should it be added as a German plane only?
Should it be added as a Finnish plane only?

Or should Norway get it’s verison, and Germany it’s verison?

I dont think finland did something to it after they bought some of them, but they might have.

And Britain will of cource have their verison first before all others, that is self saying.

I hope any of you have understood what i meant here, there are some ground vehicles as well with a simlar situation. And this will be an issue no matter if it is a new subtree or a techtree

No offense, but I don’t think Norway would work as a solo tree. Primarily because:

  • A huge portion of the tree is just an imported vehicles with very little to no difference compared to the original version.

  • There are considerable numbers of the same vehicle with only minor differences (like plenty of Chevrolet and Ford trucks with different guns, which feels like adding a bunch of technicals into the different branch and treating it as “unique vehicle”), which to me looks like an attempt to fill the missing gap with whatever you could find.

  • The placement of vehicle in the tech tree are… questionable at best. The vehicle seems to be only placed based on the operator with no synergy whatsoever. The “anti-air” tree are the worst offenders, as there are huge gap that were placed with random assortments of vehicles that some of them doesn’t even have anti-air capability.

  • Since you’ve included a large number of vehicles used by the Danish and Icelandic army, this means the tree is not really a “Norwegian” tree, and more of a hollowed-out Scandinavian tree. Given that Sweden and Finland, another Scandinavian countries, were already represented in-game, I don’t think we needed another Sweden-esque tree in the game, especially when it doesn’t offers enough new stuff to justify making a separate tree in the game.

The longer I look at this presentation the worse things get for me.

Vehicles at different tanks than where they are in game such as rank I Pz.III N and Pz.IV with long 75. Not only that, but for some reason all at different BRs too? Not sure when the Pz.IVs with long 75 became a 1.3 vehicle.

Vehicles that literally cannot function in the game as things stand, such as mortar carriers and the Honest John launchers.

Absolutely horrendous line design, such as the NASAMS somehow topping a tank line.

In my opinion an NDI tree shouldn’t exist, but if it were proposed it should definitely be a much better and more sensical presentation than this.
Nevermind the absolute lack of information given for these vehicles. I’m not sure how this got passed as a serious suggestion.

As i have said a THOUSAND times

I am working on improving it, the lineups, br, everything, and i have stated why they are placed the way they are. I dont know exactly what br etc certain vehicles are supposed to be, and some are impossible for me to decide, like the honest john, nasams hml, ss.11, willys jeep etc etc

What is wrong with it? It is just a SUGGESTION.
Is it the fact that it is not of a nation you like?
Is it the reason that i made it?
Is it the reason that you dont even bother to read anything in the post before jumping to conclusions?

Now, dont let this thread transform into the usual squabbling stuff, i have absolutely NO interest in it, but it looks like you REALLY enjoy to provoke this instead of having a rather “polite” discussion… oh mabye that is the reason! But there is no point.

Anyways, i am open for advice, suggestions, tips etc that would make the tree better, wich i have also said many many times. I have already recieved some, that i have been working out of ans this verison of the tree has been changed quite a bit, so a better tree will be provided in the next weeks/months (i got a lot of stuff to do).

Btw The variants i am working on are these.

Advice will be provided.

  1. Don’t change the BR of vehicles that are already present in game, we already have a BR for them. There is no reason why you had to lower the Pz.III N BR by 1. There is no reason why you had to lower the BR of a long barreled Pz.IV to 1.3 .

  2. Don’t change the tiers of vehicles that are already in game. There is no reason for Pz.III N to be dropped a rank, there is no reason for long barreled Pz.IV by a tank.

  3. Don’t add vehicles to a tree with the assumption that Gaijin would add new features in order to make them function. There is no real excuse to add mortar carriers without any direct fire ability or good shells to target armored vehicles to begin with just because of the assumption that Gaijin would add some sort of artillery feature.

  4. Make lines have a defined purpose instead of making them a jumbled mess. Having a line that contains some mix of light vehicles, tanks and SPG is fine, but there is absolutely no excuse to cap it off with a SAM system or to include MBTs into a supposed SPAA line.

  5. Abstain from false advertisement. This is supposedly a “golden opportunity” to add Iceland, but no Icelandic vehicles are present whatsoever. Not like anyone asked for Iceland anyways, but false advertisement is a poor sport.

  6. When you receive criticism, don’t go on an immediate rant on how the writer of said criticism is biased. If you say that you are open to criticism then actually be.

Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, etc. should be implemented before this, obviously. As an Icelander, I chuckled when I read Iceland - we don’t even have an army, come on!

Well, i haven’t said it has to be implemented now or before anyone else. 1 year or 10 years, well, it is the same

If you are an Icelander you should know about your coast guard and your homeguard (i dont remember the name just now) youre a Not-militarizing nation but you got some stuff, worthy of an inplemention

I generally support addition of new nations as long as they meet some standards and I’m not gonna lie, current form of the Tech Tree does not look good.

First of all, you must set proper Branches, right now vehicles are all over the place. Why does NASAMS on Medium/Main Battle Tank Branch ? Why K2 is on Anti-Air Branch ? Simply swapping places of these two vehicles would make it more appealing.

You have more than enough tank destroyer to make one Branch, you should bring them together instead of spreading them to make it look like Tech Tree has no gaps, if there are gaps leave them be. As a personal note, NM-116 does not bring anything to Tech Tree as Tank Destroyer, it would be better to classify it as Light Tank as you don’t really need a Tank Destroyer at the bracket. (I know what NM stands for, real-life classifications and doctrines differs from country to country, it is purely for gameplay purposes.)

What you should do is to split your Tech Tree into 4 or 5 Branches (5 if there are enough vehicles to make two Medium/Heavy/Main Battle Tank Branch, 4 if not).

I’m not really sure if Sweden really needs Norway and/or Denmark since Sweden already has anything a Tech Tree needs. Addition of Norway and Denmark might be redundant in Sweden but I’m not really sure what is the right way of implementation. Though, would support a proper suggestion Norway alongside Denmark but I don’t really support your project in this form, If you consider my and other suggestions and present more refined version, I will definitely support it, so I’m not voting for anything just yet

It is quite messy, but i have been working on it lately, and been trying to make it better, still not finished but hopefully soon!

I can change the Norwegian Model 116 to a light tank, the reason i choose Tank Destroyer is because that was what it was classified as historically in real life. In Norwegian that is “Panserjager”

If you talk to people that has served with this tank, you will hear it being called “panserjaget” - “tank hunted” directly translated lol, due to its bad mobility

in my opinion do separate these nations from the Swedish tree would have some benefits, the Swedish/Finnish tree doesn’t need the Norwegian and danish vehicles, and adding those might even have negative consequences on the tree, both in terms of space, grind and conflicts regarding certain vehicles

This is a substantial improvement over the previous version!
Well structured and more appealing.

Tier III is very lacking though and the SPAA line has huge gaps (as well as the HJ launchers that really don’t fit in the line or the game at all). Is there perhaps more options to flesh these out?

There are some vehicles that i am going to add/redirect to fill the line, this and others

Might place them as event vehicles also. From what i have seen trough documentaries (videos) they can be aimed, horisontally and vertically, so there might work. But when placed as a event vehicle those wro Honest John’s arent that important, kinda.

if the devs do decide to consider those launchers one day, it would be nice, one never know

Now this post has been here for a little while and the first verison wich was pretty bad are the reason for a lot of no’s, i changed the techtree one day ago, if i had that techtree to ebgin with, the results might have been a little different

But, this is just a suggestion and now the devs and players know there us another possibility :)

The reorganized tech tree certainly looks much better. Though I’m still doubtful that Gaijin would make this a separate tree given the addition of Norwegian VIDAR as Swedish premium.

I’m not against adding some of these unique vehicles in the Swedish tree though. Given that Gaijin seems to now wanted to turn the Swedish tree into a hub for Scandinavian/Nordic countries, we might see more of these vehicles in the future.

I have updated the techtree again

Here are the changes

  • Added more vehicles, the tree now has 109x vehicles
    -M29 Water weasel
    -M7B2 panserjager
    -CV9030N Mk.3 OPV
    -CV9030N Mk.3 STRILED
    -Leopard 2A8NOR
    -ACSV NASAMS
    -Willys M38A1
    -Nimbus MC

  • Removed vehicles wich doesnt have place in warthunder (yet in warthunders current development) being the Honest john launchers and mortar carriers

  • Recounted the vehicles and number of unique has increased from 72 to 85 giving 78%

  • Placements, lines, names and battleratings has been changed
