NCTR Identification Results Must Be Accessible to Players in Simulator Battles

Since NCTR (Non-Cooperative Target Recognition) has already been implemented on certain aircraft in the game, players should be able to access and interpret the identification results it produces.

In Arcade and Realistic Battles, players can already obtain NCTR identification information through the on-screen target lock indicator. However, in Simulator Battles, this interface is absent, leaving many NCTR-equipped aircraft without any practical way to access their identification results.

In reality, NCTR identification information can be presented through onboard display systems or transmitted via datalinks and other systems for further processing and use. However, War Thunder does not fully simulate all of these information-sharing and processing systems. Therefore, players should at least be able to access NCTR identification results directly from the aircraft they are operating.

Currently, only the Su-30SM and Su-30SM2 can display NCTR identification results directly on the HUD, while the J-16 allows players to view them by switching the cockpit MFD display mode. However, many other NCTR-equipped aircraft still provide no practical way for players to read or interpret these results in Simulator Battles.

This is especially unreasonable for highly advanced aircraft such as the F-15EX, J-10C, and F-16CM PoBIT. Despite being equipped with modern AESA radars and advanced digital cockpit displays, these aircraft still lack an accessible way to read NCTR identification results in Simulator Battles. Such a limitation is difficult to justify on aircraft of this technological level.

This issue is particularly detrimental to the Simulator Battles experience. With the introduction of Nuclear Escalation testing in Simulator Battles, the large number of aircraft, missiles, and bombs on the battlefield creates an increasingly cluttered radar environment. Under these conditions, the ability to use NCTR to identify specific aircraft types becomes especially important for situational awareness and target identification.

I understand that some aircraft cockpit display systems may not yet be fully implemented. However, this should not prevent players from making use of an NCTR capability that already exists in the game.

One simple solution would be to display NCTR identification results in the standard radar UI on the right side of the screen in Simulator Battles. This would allow players to make practical use of NCTR without having to wait for the complete implementation of cockpit display systems, ensuring that all aircraft equipped with NCTR can actually benefit from this capability.

For comparison, here are some examples of how NCTR identification results can currently be accessed in War Thunder:

  • Su-30SM / Su-30SM2: NCTR results can be read directly on the cockpit HUD.
  • Eurofighter Typhoon: NCTR results are displayed on the cockpit radar MFD.
  • J-16: NCTR results can be accessed by switching the cockpit MFD display mode.
