Naval should be reworked

i made this doc a year ago ( i think), and i wanted to share it. feel free to add to the ideas and expand upon it.

Naval, it’s boring. Solution, Change how naval works entirely.

Don’t base anything in this on the current system, if u do it will cloud your judgment.

Things to add:

-aircraft carriers: they can work, and be fun

-submarines

-convoys

Techtree rework:

-similar to other tech trees

-classes are in individual lines rather than small to big

This may seem like it won’t work like destroyers against battleships, but it can

You will start the game by spawning in light cruisers or heavy cruisers, you cant spawn in destroyers, instead whatever destroyer u have researched and in your lineup with spawn in with your heavy or light cruisers as a sort of fleet ai that sticks with u and fires, you can also take control of your convoy destroyers individually. Two destroyers spawn with you.

To spawn in submarine, battleship, or aircraft carrier, it takes the spawn points u earn using CA, ,or CL. Submarines take the least amount of spawn points (like an assist). Battleships take and average amount, and aircraft carriers take the most. Submarines, battleships, and aircraft carriers spawn without convoy of any sort.

Aircraft Carriers

Do ever spawn in and aircraft and cant get anywhere near because of antiair? The answer is Yes. CV can be equipped with the naval aircraft you earn in the air TT. When you launch an aircraft it launches in a group of 3-6, with you controlling it and Ai following your lead. When your patrol gets knocked out you with return to controlling aircraft carrier, the next time you can launch is on a timer that depends on the aircraft carrier. U can launch ai fighters from your CV to protect it. CV has ASW-capable aircraft. Before lunching you can route your aircraft carrier on the map. When launching an aircraft, you can toggle between ship and air.

Submarines

SS will start the match above water. SS can move around the map undetected but can be spotted by seaplanes or nearby ships and marked on the map. SS can stay near passageways and pick off ships. SS with aircraft can control the aircraft while under water.

Battleships

BBs and BCs will work the same as they do in the game, but they will cost spawn points to spawn in.

Some countries might be weaker than others naval wise like, USSR, Germany, Italy, and france, especially aircraft carrier wise. But at least two Aircraft carrier will do. Some countries won’t have naval aircraft, so aircraft with a short takeoff will work.

There will always be a gap in tech trees, but where something is weak in one way is stronger somewhere else.

MAP REWORK

I have two ideas for how maps and rounds work. One is to have a defensive side and an offensive side, Certain countries will be on the defensive more because of there weak aircraft carrier capabilities, so the defensive side will have access to an airfield and land-based aircraft. The next map type is a long battle over a huge map and there will be a border line and different areas to capture and contest, this will be a long battle and when someone loses all there fleet they get replaced by another player. up until 75% of the battle is done.

Layout,

Destroyers will be in the far left in the tt with a different highlight color they a special reserved slot to equip there has to be at least one heavy or light cruiser equipped. Then one empty slot and buyable slots. When you join a match you can select whatever heavy or light cruiser you have equipped.

Thanks to this part, I think that it is impossible to add aircraft carriers in naval mode…

Gaijin is heavily neglecting naval aircraft, and there are some nations which never built or used aircraft carriers or naval aircraft in ww2.

Some nations, like Germany or Italy, couldn’t use that class…
And the British can’t use nearly half of their arsenal thanks to Gaijin, which didn’t add those.

I still await Fulmar and Skua…

Aircraft carriers with no aircraft to use and never saw combat. :(

Aircraft carriers are already in the game and should remain AI.

Using a carrier in War Thunder is quite literally the same gameplay as all other ships just without shooting other ships.

No not really. we can come up with ideas to make it work.

As much as I would love to see carriers playable I believe only the seaplane tenders and I400 (granted if subs are well balanced) would work, mostly due to distribution issues as only the UK, USA and Japan have a wide range of classes to choose from (even then post war Japan would be limited to Heli carriers)

France and Italy only have 1 option for ww2 each, though they may be able to get some mean modern carriers should they arrive.

Germany iirc had the Graf zeppelin and Wesser. Sure they had planes but those are Bf 109s, Ju87s and the Fi 167, none of which would be able to contend with the later carrier planes of the UK, USA and Japan. Sure they could work but then Germany is at a disadvantage once post war carriers enter play.

Sweden only gets one seaplane carrier

The USSR and China only had post war carriers, leading to a big gap.

Israel literally gets nothing.

Another issue would be how to balance the maps so fleet carriers can do their job while not being untouchable.

Sure you could argue that carrier distribution could be a balance tool (i.e Germany has the H-class still to add so in return for having more battleships they have little carriers and the USA getting high br CVs in return for Iowa being the apex BB), that is until you realise that Japan and UK can both receive larger ships than the Vanguard/Yamoto (not to mention the plethora of subs, coastal vessels and bluewater ships).

Agree no CVs. This isn’t WoWS.

Something to add about CVs, not in order.

I will would accept CV play in Warthunder as long as they make it RTS style. The Overhead view, With ability to control several squadrons. Thats where wows lost me. When they changed their CV play to the crap they have now.

If you know of or played the sink the Yamato mission in Warthunder, you fly an aircraft supported by A.I planes in a squadron formation. You control the aircraft just as you would in any current Air mode in warthunder. Get shot down, you just take over one of the surviving A.I aircraft. I would have the option to manually attack ships for precision with proposed CV play.

Wows also dropped the ball when they took away a feature to select what aircraft to bring. Now it’s just a fixed set. Previously you could take more or less fighter, dive bombers, or torpedo planes. Or more aircraft at the expense of limited options.

Now for those who actually play naval, you know that AA is insane. I believe the majority of ships that would even see a CV in their battle rating could very well defend against aircraft. There would be nice bonuses for shooting down many aircraft.

I dare to propose that friendly players on the team be able to take control of a squadron with using spawn points.

I think a CV would have a stock aircraft option which would provide what ever aircraft was available on said CV. Beyond that, have an option to customize what aircraft to take. Squadrons would be limited to a degree and would have to be balanced to what the CV was capable of carrying. In other words I don’t think there will be long range bombers available for CV. Probably just naval aircraft.

this was my original idea for CV. i would like it if they could be able to launch squads of 3-7 aircraft depending on what aircraft they are. i also think CV would kind off work like a command ship for these aircraft squads.

map rework and game mode is the whole point of this discussion, we need to figure out a way that all these vessels can work.

the balance of carriers will never be perfect, but it can still work

very interesting idea, it might be better than allowing players to spawn their aircraft on your carrier.

both Italy and Germany have potential CV they can use. yes, there aircraft selection is very limited but not bad by my research (me rn 🤓).

(Or 44 aircraft if u count its older config)

i think Italy and Germany each have one more CV you can add to the list too.

Jade class and Weser class for Germany.
Sparviero is another carrier for Italy (i think).

Some of special carrier variant of Re.2001 were made.

Aircraft carriers in WW2 had their own guns. They could honestly hold their own against destroyers and maybe light cruisers in a gunfight imo
