Gaijin did add a couple of gun emplacements on Franz Land for a short period. They were AI, bad accuracy, poor damage, but at the very least they added some variety and resulted in some of my shios having very rare Ground kills.
I did see a little negative feedback but most players seemed to like the idea, but it went nowhere and they disappeared again.
But I dont think player controlled guns would be so welcomed. I could see it becoming a ‘free life’ unless loss of the gun also meant loss of the ship/boat. Too effective and it would dominate, too weak and it gets ignored.
Maybe Gaijin will return to the idea one day and retest the feasibility, just like they did with Subs…oh wait…
maybe its a wrong impression but I feel like the mission points ad SL-earnings are drastically reduced by the last update, sinking a number of ships/planes results in not more as 1000 mission points…
If it was actually somewhat in-line with this rock, paper, scissors game design it would be a much more enjoyable and bearable game mode. Really unfortunate that it’s not.
Unrelated to the above, I agree with the others noticing that many bombs seem to do an excessively minimal amount of damage to the point that it makes them entirely pointless to drop even if you manage to get close enough to do so.
Yeah, standard bombs are pretty anemic right now. Only really huge bombs in decent number (4x3000 pound on F-111, etc) can really hurt a battleship as a solo aircraft. I have also tried AP bombs, and if they manage to get a good hit they can deal some decent damage to a battleship. We need more AP bombs and aircraft weapons designed to contend with heavy armor for naval.
Agreed, there should be a minimum target size for unguided AA to automatically engage. Anything smaller than a fighter (so bombs, air dropped torpedoes etc) should be ignored by the AI gunners, unless on a ship with an actual CIWS system installed.
They fire at the target aircraft. Bombs being in the bullets’ path between it and the target is simply a happy accident and since bombs are usually so close together, it causes the initial bomb that is hit by a bullet to explode all other bombs near it.
I have had bombs from a level bomber end up getting intercepted automatically after that bomber turned away, it’s not just bullets happening to hit bombs dropped from a dive bomber. In either case, naval AA is extremely strong and aircraft ordnance is very weak in comparison.
