German Naval History, Design, Performance & Dissection

just a place to discuss all things german naval since i noticed there isnt one for germany

try to keep it civil thats all

first topic id like to see discussed is bismarcks model i know barbette fires reach magazines via short barbettes but theres a physical wall there in between barbettes and magazines that should not be able to be breeched by any flash or damaged since its in the most armored part of the ship

heres a photo its at the bottom of the barbette

bismarcks blueprints show it too

I refuse; I choose violence.

H39 was part of ‘Plan Z’, Blohm und Voss Deschimag were to construct her.

Laid down in 1939, not much work was done before it was cancelled. While calling it a ‘Super Bismarck’ is disingenuous, the visual similarities - had it been completed - are very noticeable.

What little had been built was scrapped in 1941.

??? i mean it had enough laid down to meet requirements all thats required for gaijin is a keel

heres what it would look like basically big bismarck or tirpitz cause how its stripes look

I’ve seen the German coastal suggestions.are quite limited, is there any missing vessels (ik there’s 2 Swiss boats that can be used.but I’m not knowledgeable on Germany’s coastal fleet).

Wespe class gunboats from the 1880s could be cool with the whopping 10.4 knots max speed.

some of them might be pushing the limits in terms of coastal/bluewater, but the FRG operated a bunch of (former RN) corvettes
originally armed with six 4" guns (3x2) + AA, but after receiving them the Germans rearmed them in a couple of ways

two of them after commissioning but before refit:

Spoiler

another, this one with what looks like 2 automated 100mm guns, an old L60 bofors behind the superstructure, and a pair of Italian L70s

Spoiler

and this one seems to have forgone all heavy armament and gone full Bofors

F_214_Hipper2

the last one might be a bit ridiculous, weighing in at 1200t but only having autocannons, and similarly the first one would probably be more at home in the bluewater tree. but the middle refit seems like a good candidate for a tier V coastal

Would be since to see the modified corvettes for sure!

Would there be any patrol/torpedo boats?

Also since it’s official subtree to Germany, Switzerland’s Type 41 would be neat

I was confused by the use of corvette but I believe that’s for the Black Swan class Sloops (E, & post war re-rated Frigates).

First pic,

F215 Graf Spee, F214 Hipper.

Second pic, F213 Scharnhorst

Third pic, Hipper in late life I guess? On the bright side those are 40 mm/70 Model 1948 at the fore section, seems more effective than if the poms ever get their Type 14 Second Rate ASW Frigates (mini Type 12, has three single 40 mm/60 & a LIMBO mortar).

I’m surprised by the lack of Flat-Iron Gunboats in game, the Wespe class would be the German equivalent alongside another class.

East Germany operated 3 Soviet Koni-class ASW frigates, among them the Volksmarine flagship
“Berlin- Hauptstadt der DDR”:

Should Gaijin decide to introduce guided ASM platforms, the Osa 1-class missile boat and the Tarantul-class missile corvette would be further options:

Ohh boy, finally a chat room on German ships, especially those on which everyone wants to see heh heh.

Personally I wanna see several escort type vessels ranging from further fleet torpedo boats to frigate types an along with odd ball vessels an various cruisers.

Gonna dot list stuff.

• Type 1923 torpedo boat, we already have the Type 1924, these could inadvertently beckme the new starters in a similar case to the Momi class replacing the Mutsuki class.

• Type 1935 & Type 1937, essentially the truest form of heavy torpedo boats, they had oddly laided out armament with the 10.5 cm cannon at the stern & 2×3 centreline torpedo tube mount ahead, an had various Light AA.

• Type 1940 Torpedo Boat, ships based off dutch vessels, a single funnel designed vessel with 4×1 12.7 cm cannons & 2×3 torpedoes on a 2500t vessel with it estimated reaching 35kts, it was essentially a bridging design between torpedo boat & destroyer for tonnage. Only T61 was launched but sank under tow.

• Type 1941, essentially an improved Type 1939 with more Light AA, T37 was the closest to completion being almost ready to launch.

Type 1944 never happening as none were laid down, essentially a twin 10.5 cm armed vessel.

• F class Escort ship, a 700t vessel with two 10.5 cm cannons.

Not going to bother listing due to the sheer amount but all tbe Kaiserliche Marine torpedo boats from small V-25 to the large G-101 types, yet we’ve options like the B97 class which were essentially German built ships for Imperial Russia similar to the SMS Elbing (in this case the Orfey class a subgroup of the Novik class built in german yards, as seen the by Derzky & Fidonsiy classes in game).

• I’m surprised by the late of further WWI cruisers outside of capital ships, Dresden class 1906 (laid down dates). Probably one of the more famous WWI cruisers types with SMS Dresden & SMS Emden, the Dresden could be a Rank I/II cruiser while Emden a premium due to history (title, pfp, dummy funnel decoration).

• Odd item option, Commence raider SMS Seeadler, mixed propulsion vessel, a large sailing ship with two 10.5 cm cannons & 8 mm MG’s.

• Auxiliary Merchant cruiser Atlantis KSH-2, we technically have it, yet as its last name SS Goldenfels the AI merchant ship seen in most encounter maps.Armed with various cannons from 15 cm to 2 cm & torpedo tubes & a floatplane.

Modern yay,

• Training cruiser Deutschland A59, essentially an upsized Köln class Frigate, could go right after it (clarification, coastal TT doesn’t exist, many of the vessels ain’t coastal & it acts as a long buffer to tougher ships, thus Deutschland would fit here after Köln F220).

• really modern, Frigate Hamburg of the Sachsen class, rather modern yet missile armament can be forgotten for it could carry a Panzerhaubitze 2000 turret for a main gun.

With the recent addition of the German built version of the Project 133.1 corvettes, we may get more DDR vessels, thoughts?

• Project 108/109 landing ships, 18kt vessels with two AK-725, two AK-230 or 2M-3 & two sets of 122 mm MLRS systems. I think such odd ships would be fun tbh.

I will update my thoughts further on for these.

I really want Hamburg class destroyers as well. The initial configuration with 4x 100mm auto loading turrets and two frontal arc ASW quad missile launchers.
Its good that we’ve got post war Lutjens class DD last patch. Not so good that its a guided missile destroyers without actually guided missiles. Just two anemic turrets and a RIM AAM launcher. Not a single autocannon or even machine gun.

Since we havn’t entered ASM age yet, the Hamburg class, pre-refit, would be awesome.

Not to forget training cruiser Deutschland, quite similar. Bigger, but also slower.

What’s the over under on the H class being given 1940 vs 45 aaa, here’s hoping it gets the soyuez treatment and is given twin 37mm and quad 20mms, I’ll probably be stuck with the terrible sc30 though for medium range…

I really don’t like the Bismarck aaa, it’s bad when Italians have it better.

to be fair the SPAA makes the ship worse honestly you loose crew way faster yeah youd be vunerable to planes but if someone want to use a plane they have to get through AI gunners with aim bot on some destroyers

I mean ofc but I care about how it looks and that mechanic could change and aaa could be useful if they actually made the game mode worth playing, like ap bombs being a meme and just worse at destroying ships it could change maybe

plus when tirpitz is added as long as one of those is on your team youll be fine also many brititsh ships you have teamates

tipitz will suffer from terrible medium range aaa, it was stuck with the duel single shot sc30 mounts, I want it to have aaa similar to the type 1936c if I could
