This page is specifically about nation matching and how brutally unbalanced it is if and when Russia and US are paired together ahead of any other nation (I am sure Sweden being paired with them is also brutal)
This is also specifically at high tier (9.7+) as any other BR below the vehicles and matchmaker don’t seem to pair this way.
It comes down to a few things:
CAS
A-10 + SU-25 (any variants) this is an insane combo considering they are in the game to be expected on opposite teams
No other nation has beefy strikecraft at this BR (that I am aware of) and certainly not as premium fully spaded vehicles.
2S38 and Obj 292s
Overpowered ground vehicles like these have broken the meta completely and one of them doesn’t even exist IRL and would certainly be nerfed when not given “Stalin’s blessing”.
Unbalanced maps
Speaks for itself.
Rather than tell me to get good or give me advice (I know I am not statistically a high kill player, but I am a higher win player) This post is a rant and place for players to respectfully blow off steam (aka feedback) about the obvious nation imbalance.
Gaijin, please work more aggressively to counter spawn camping on maps like Aral Sea and consider removing and/or expanding routes to minimize choke point abuse.
Please rebalance the Obj 292 and 2S38
and at last
Please ensure Russia and US cannot be on the same team at high tier. I think I speak for a lot of the community when I say we want smaller more balanced teams
When the queue takes too long than you should offer to let people opt in for Big 3 nations on the same team and/or team size data collection on the live server based on a preference button similar to the maps like/dislike.
Getting steamrolled in smaller less popular nations because a combined force of big 3 nations is there to pummel everyone else with their dedicated premium lineups is unfair.
2nd Point of contention and feedback that is loosely related with matchmaking.
People who have 1 vehicle spawn, play, die, leave need to be placed in a separate queue/game mode.
Allow the new premium users who are lower level to face each other more exclusively so they can
A) get better
B) stop dragging the lineup players down 1 or more teammates when they die and leave.
I hope SOME of these suggestions can make their way into the Roadmap 2025 in some capacity…
If this platform will let me, I will add a poll to vote for which of these people think should take most priority.
1- Yes, Soviets have CAS equal to all but Japan. Welcome to CAS is OP and unkillable when played correctly.
2- 2S38/Strf 9040C are currently 10.3, and are no where close to OP.
Object 292 is an armored tank destroyer nerfed with the medium tank classification. It’s fine.
You’ve provided no evidence of imbalance.
The only way 2S38 moves up is if Begleit, VCC-80/60, HSTVL, and Strf 9040s move up as well.
And 292 is a situational tank destroyer with a lol-pen round.
I’ll take M60 AMBT over it.
As someone who has played USA, Japan and Germany at top tier it’s a very regular experience that Russia, Sweden and Germany are on one team while USA is either completely by itself or the minor nations are splattered between the two - And generally the majority of the minor nations end up with Russia, Sweden and Germany vs the USA. The most common minor Nation I see and experience paired up with USA is Japan and only Japan more than anyone else.
Like what? 292 has acceptable reverse speed and turret rotation. Only downsides are gun depression and reload. Lacking Thermals is basically a moot point since night maps can be toggled off.
Just because it might be acceptable doesn’t mean it’s not a con. Having 14.3 degrees/s stock is basically ~8.0 levels of performance, which as you may guessed is far from optimal for a 10.7 tank.
Reload speed is just awful to the point I think having 3BM42 with 7.1s reload is the better combo at that BR.
You don’t need night battles to have an use out of thermals.
It also lacks any sort of MG and smoke grenades.
Every tank has lesser performance stock. The 292 has overperforming turret armor which minimizes the rotation " debuff ". The hull can traverse pretty quick even stock which also serves to minimize the turret rotation " debuff ". Once spaded it’s a much lesser issue.
The reverse speed also gets better when it’s spaded, making it sufficiently competitive even for a T-series tank.
Moot point when it can point and click everything at its’ BR, lower and higher. Only way you won’t OHK is if you either get Gaijin’d or royally botch your shot.
Sure, but it’s not as big a dealbreaker going without them.
I’ll give you more credit on the smoke grenades, but at the given BR you’re generally not dealing with light vehicles that can be .50’d anymore nor low flying Helis.
The game is what the game is and the one thing we all have on common on this forum is that we dream it was something that it isn’t and bemoan the wasted potential.
WarThunder is Draughts but we all wish it were Chess and it never will be.The priority is to make money and all that has maybe changed is the fact that Gaijin dont hide it any more.So long as the clowns are queuing up with their cash they can serve any old rubbish and you guys will suck it up.
It doesn’t matter if a player susses the game out for the shallow event it really is because a new mug will come along to replace every one who leaves and the team of die hard fan boys will always defend the garbage because they are too dumb to see the game for what it is.Or maybe they do see the game for what it is and just enjoy racking up a high score,could be a tank game or it could be Pac Man ,to them its all the same.
It’s a quick bit of fun and there is no shame in that but so many on here imagine it is so much more than it is.There is no depth in War Thunder once the game starts,the depth is in the forum talk, the technicality and historical reference is left in the hanger.The game is a mindless point and click shooter about who sees who first and has the internet connection to hopefully take advantage.
It has 14.3 degrees/s while stock, meanwhile plenty other contemporaries have 23.8 degrees/s when stock. This is a clear downside you’re trying to ignore and sweep under the rug.
Reverse speed is clearly a con considering many other contemporaries have more than double the speed.
Thermals definitely help, so not having them is a clear con.
MGs are really useful when you want to get rid of bushes, fences or other stuff that are in your way decreasing your vision.
I don’t see what’s OP about 292 at 10.7, since it is a slightly slower T-80B without thermals and smokes that fires top tier worthy round and has 2.9s longer reload speed.
EDIT: Here’s another con. It doesn’t have commander override so if your gunner is killed you’ll take longer to fire again.
It’s funny sometimes. Russian tank has worst in class gun depression at all times? That’s irrelevant just learn to play around it. Leopard gets its gun depression limited when the turret is rotated to the side at certain angles? NOOO NO NOOON OOOOO THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!
