As far as I know there is no differences between different sizes of chaff CM. Also, because of how 9M/AAM-3 work, there is no difference which size of flare you use. So, there is 2 variants when big CM is better than BOL:
- You have a really hot engine and need to dodge 9L from behind.
- You’re trying to dodge R-73/MM2/Pl-5/8. But from ~1.5 km it’s death in about 95% of cases no matter what you are doing.
In the end, I wouldn’t say that BOLs are “dogshit”. If you have choice, than it’s slightly better to use BOL/small CM as chaff and big CM as flares, but it’s not THAT different

We know that F-15J has compatible with AIM-120 wing pylons (even Gaijin accepted it), so technically they can use modern AIM-120. But as far as I know, they decided to buy AIM-120C-7/8 and even D-3 for their F-35s, not for F-15J

But BOL flares really ARE bad. They are gone within second and they don’t fire away from your plane. Against FOV IRCCM, they really are much worse than normal CMs. They also barely help in close range dogfights where you need the flares to attract the missile away from you because you don’t have the speed to turn away yourself.
As for BOL chaff, it’s basically the same as any other chaff, no issues there.

There’s also a mention of Japan already having AIM-120C-5 in inventory in one of the DSCA news releases about Japan buying AIM-120C-7
So with this alongside the known AMRAAM compatibility, maybe the F-15J(M) AIM-120C-5 report could be remade.

I’d rather if they buffed the AAM-4 to its actual performance, not a sidegrade AIM-120A. :sob: Something needs to happen, because Japan is now the only nation without 14.0 plane? Not to mention there isn’t really anything that could be added now until the F-35, which we are still eons away from.

Not really. I can remember few situations where I was dogfighting on gripen against Su-27 and just spammed flares against their R-73. They missed. Whole point of BOL is that you can spam them A LOT.
You mean worse firing envelope for essentially its current range?
Or AAM-4B which again, is essentially the same range(/slightly more for worse time to target due to lofting) and a better seeker.
Would like to have both AAM-4 buffed and C-5 given.
Thai JAS39E? 9 missiles, AESA radar, MAW, lots of flares, better flight performance. The only issue they are not bought yet

They could’ve added the AAM-4B for the F-2, the plane’s gimmick in air to air would then be maybe the best radar in the game (for now) coupled with not many, but hard to notch radar missiles. That’s how the AAM-4B could be implemented - high notch, chaff and multipathing resistance.

I don’t think Japan would be getting it until at least an update after Sweden gets it, which might not even be this year.

Right now according to a smin comment i saw they are adding 120Cs only to 14.0 planes. If i can find the comment ill add it. Personally i think they should give the C to the F-15J and move it to 14.0.

I think Italy is more likely to get Spanish F/A-18 than a Brazilian Gripen. Brazil isn’t really a subnation of the Italian tree, Italy only got the Brazilian AMX cuz the plane is their shared project.
Anyway, back to the Japanese tree - the F-15SG is an option too, but probably higher than 14.0. Those carry AIM-120C-7.

I’d personally hope for both honestly, especially since you can still only carry 4 of the AAM-4s, so you might want to bring AMRAAMs with them.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see them wait until they’re at least built. Delivery is set for 2029, so it might be a while before we see it in game.
i also lookout for the 4+6 loadout, but dont find more infos. when nobody have more infos where is no way to go.
i would be fine with this, when the SU30SM loose her double launcher. its totally fantasy, not needed and a buff for all other planes.
i only play sim and this the only plane that power creeps. with that ahistorical loadout.
If ASEAN subtree really added to Japan there a tons of plane that using AIM-120C-7, other than F-15SG we have Indo F-16A, Malaysia F/A-18 C/D, Japan itself also got AIM-120C-7 too but just not sure is it used on F-2 or just F-15J

Sudden question: can F-2 carry more than 4 IR missiles?
Sad. I wanna try it in SQBs. AAM-4 are not that useful there. More AAM-3 would be nice to have
