Mitsubishi F-2

I was surprised that China even was the main focus of the Dance of Dragons update.
I would’ve expected J-10A to only get like 2 seconds of screentime.

I really wish Japan to get an update trailer focused on them, maybe the F-2A.
This is all wishful thinking though.

Realistically (at the very least for air) China is gradually replacing Russia’s role from now on, having basically superior derivatives of Russian planes and their own more advanced aircraft especially entering 5th gen era.

It’s more surprising that Gaijin seems to think the exact opposite and makes their aircraft just worse copies of the Russian ones so far.

Yeah that would be really nice. And with either J-10B delayed to next update or possibly J-10C next update (depending on if J-10B is added now or not), that would make for a great F-15 / Su-27 “rivalry” dynamic in the teaser.
Or if they really have to they can always do an Apex Predators style dynamic featuring the F-18 as well

I don’t blame Gaijin entirely for this.
It’s more of Gaijin selectively choosing to add the variants that don’t feature much improvement, so that they aren’t outright better for now. For example, J-11B would be unfair to add when Su-27SM was being added.

I would say, early version with AAM-3/4 and without HMD won’t be that powerful. But for later version we must wait for advanced IR and ARH missiles. But with AAM-5 this plane is gonna be awesome in dogfight. Unfurtunately, dogfighting is not really common at these BRs. Even gripen is good basically for it’s controllability at high speeds. And I’m not sure that F-2 will have gripen style, rather than F-16 style controllability.

Also, they can rebalance ARH missiles by adding properly working datalink. With AESA radar and even AAM-4 this thing gonna crack random. With MICAs AESA radar is not that superior because of small range of these missiles.

There is no good things in these situation. Gaijin just fucked both us and logic by adding Typhoon and especially Rafale with AESA before F-2. Well, I still have some hope that we’re getting F.3 (and not F.3r) version, but my hope is rapidly fading.

Yea we got screwed both ways. Instead of F-2 being one of the first Gen 4.5s, other nations get their Gen 4.5s and AESA.

My theory is that Gaijin was supposed to add it this year but they couldn’t get it in time thanks to last updates extension. Which explains why the update is kinda of weird, including the teaser. Even the J-10B and J-11B leaked were not added, only adding to the theory.

The real question is will we see F-2 in March along with Su-30SM, F/A-18C, J-10B, etc. Or will they save that for June which means we wait 6 months for no reason until maybe they add the F-2 with AAM-5 and next generation of IR missiles.

As someone whose favorite aircraft is the F-2 and pretty much the only thing I’m looking forward to and will put a bajillion battles into. Being edged like this is infuriating. At least with ARH we knew it would be March or June well in advance. All those listed aircraft have been in the leak lists except F-2 and coupled with Smin’s response, I feel like F-2 is nowhere close and that is extremely disappointing. I don’t want the aircraft because it might be competitive, I want it because it’s THE F-2, damnit.

Hopefully F-2A will come in March update or even before that, there is no justification to delay it even further. It really should have been added this update.

I want to fly the F-2A as well.

Gaijin’s silence is proof of that.

Comparing Rafale and F-2 to Kfir is straight disingenuous though.
[This isn’t saying you or anyone in this topic has done this. Someone in another topic already did this though.]

let’s be fair to ourselves, F-2 is not super-plane that gonna be meta for all times (like gripen now). It’s good and can be OP, but only for some time. I really wanted to see this plane early, because that what they been doing with Japan! T-2 was the first real supersonic jet, F-4EJ was one of the first planes with good IR missiles, F-4EJ Kai was first plane with PD radar. And we were able to get F-2A Early as first plane with AESA radar. Not good, but still. And instead we get… This

I mean, Smin’s justification that J-10B and J-11B weren’t coming was that China isn’t the focus of the update. And I somewhat agree since we got two top tiers in the past updates.

But they said nothing about them being overpowered or breaking the game.

With the F-2A they can’t even use the same excuse, that “there were too many additions for Japan” not long ago.

You and me both know that’s not the point. The point is Gaijin said F-2 will come when other aircraft come with AESA. Now other aircraft are coming with AESA, Kfir + Rafale and F-2 is nowhere to be found or even mentioned.

F-2 was never going to be meta after the F-15J(M). A plane that can carry more ARH missiles and has more countermeasures on an airframe that can handle carrying a full load of missiles and fly well.

All the F-2 was going to be was CAS for Japan top tier and niche dogfighting capabilities.

When they were adding F-16AJ they mentioned that we need to wait “few more updates”. Now it’s almost two years

What a lie that was lol, but looking at the devblogs since then, especially the recent Rafale one, it’s clear the devblogs aren’t always 100% accurate

F-15JM is gen 4.5 as well while being under-BR’d currently.

Also there’s no such thing as delays @EnglishTeaKett1e If something isn’t released within the existing BR range that’s cause its current state of development isn’t playable.

I want F-2 more than most, but coming up with blatantly wrong reasons why it’s not here isn’t the best way to process why it’s not here.
It’s not playable, it’s as simple as that. Something in development isn’t finished if not multiple things.

They said F-2 will never be a replacement to it and that F-2 is superior, nothing more.

Xnekron shouldn’t have misquoted them.

Yeah, but I don’t get why Gaijin did not consider to ready the F-2A to appear ingame earlier.
It would not be out of place at all in this update. It is comparable to EFT and Rafale.

They likely were, the thing is anything important that isn’t functioning how it should can cause something not to release that major update [See Mig-29G for Germany as one of many examples, another being A-6 SWIP].

Wait, f-15JM and F-15C aren’t going to 14.0? That’s ridiculous

AESA radar can be a good trade-off for missiles. I mean, if I can get kills from all 4 of my missiles with probability close to 1, it would be much better than having 8 random missiles. And yeah, CAS

No, they literally said they want to delay F-2 for “few major updates”

Spoiler

It is not. It does not pass any definition of Gen 4.5:

Such capabilities may include advanced sensor integration, AESA radar, supercruise capability, supermaneuverability, broad multi-role capability, and reduced radar cross-section

It’s a Gen 4 airframe, even Gaijin says so.

He did not:

Therefore, when choosing between forcing Japanese aviation enthusiasts to wait for the Viper Zero a few major updates

1 year and 10 months ago, or 8 major updates ago. So much for “few major updates”.

Would you look at that, they said exactly what I said they said.
Also “few” means different things to different people and ranges from 3 to multiple 2 digit numbers.
Also there is nothing about delay in that post, nothing.

@Nagisei

“Such capabilities may include advanced sensor integration, AESA radar, supercruise capability, supermaneuverability, broad multi-role capability, and reduced radar cross-section”

May isn’t the same as required.

And we’re not outside the range of “few”, we can be annoyed they’re not on the lower end of “few” but they won’t be out of “few” for another “few” major updates. Hate the word “few”… both as a demand and my opinion on the word.
