Mitsubishi F-2

The Kikka currently featured in War thunder is undoubtedly fake. actual Kikka was not equipped gun, and engine output is also incorrect.

it flew without guns

so it is pretty similar to the YAK-141 in that aspect

that is the exact reason why i included it

Closer to “fiction, but all parts existed”, considering it’s not actually implemented as the brochure described. Instead they made some weird changes with no historical basis.

I agree about the others though, no point in arguing against vehicles that are removed anyways.

Yes, the caveat is that it’s not actually “the” F-16AJ, just a block 10 with sparrows. Can’t decide if this makes it more or less fake.

“No, baka gaijin! It is foru DEFENSIVE PUHPOSES ONRI! It DOES NOT ATTACK

-Some JSDF Official who probably reads this

Will the tech tree F2 not get any Mavericks in its weapons??
Afaik they could operate it no ?

I think the whole “NO A2G! ONLY FOR DEFENSE PURPOSE!” is not came from JSDF but from the parliament, there are many example that shown JSDF officer try to sneak pass the government regulation and keep the A2G capability, like calling them “anti-boat weapon” or saying that is crititcal system of the plane.

F-2 doesn’t have any AGM-65 and never tested it

ASM-2B is for ground tanks

ASM-2 can go for tanks however its primarily used for air to surface (so in a sense ASM-2 will be our mavericks - if gaijin decides to do the ASM lore of being able to track tanks)

ASM-2B is for ground targets hit via GPS, here is no proof it can destroy tanks via seeker

Penguin also can’t lock tank targets in new update

Nice

so its essencially a fat jdam with a rocket strapped to its butt

Well, unlike the Penguin missile’s passive IR seeker, the ASM-2 series employs an imaging-infrared (IIR) seeker similar to that of the Kh-38MT, and it is turbojet-powered rather than rocket-powered—making it the more capable weapon.

Because the Kh-38 MT in War Thunder can lock onto aircraft as well as tanks, it seems unnecessary to argue that the ASM-2 should be limited to locking ships and not tanks.

2.47.0.9 changes:

  • AN/AAQ-33: vertical limits: -155° / 5° → -155° / 32°
  • RWR: J/APR-4 → J/ASQ-2 (20 km more range, has K band)
  • J/APG-2 (F-2A, F-2A (ADTW)):
    • sea patterns: they had ground names, fixed minimum target radius: 5 → 10 m
  • GBU-62 (both) and GBU-64 JDAM-ER added
  • ASM-1, ASM-2: now use transparent smoke

This is huge actually, Pantsir tracking radar is K-band and we will see more K-band radars in the future.

…glide JDAMs? Possibly laser guided? Interesting.

Yup, I’m excited. I wish it had 360 degree top down coverage but I’ll take what I can get

I think the 500 lbs ones come with ER too but the bigger bombs are still GPS only

When he said GBU-62 (both) he meant the laser JDAM and normal JDAM glide variants, so yes it will get laser guided glide bombs

I don’t mind not having full coverage, not detecting K-band is a bigger issue if you’re like me and plan to use it in GRB only.

Neat, I don’t know much about modern guided A2G so wasn’t sure what it would entail. Definitely gives it something to use at long range if the ASM-2s turn out to be unusable against ground targets.

I mostly plan to use in GRB and I agree. It’s going to be huge in situational awareness.

Well …ASM-2 IS STILL ARH FOR SOME REASON
