They already gave a plane that didn’t have HMD, HMD. I’m strongly against such a thing, however, even for F-2
I want the F-2 to come before the patch with next gen IR missiles that ruins top tier forever.
I understand this. Here is JAS-39A for example which got HMD from 39C as I know
But I just want to notice that it missing on actual airplane
Here is example that many not really interested people think that there was XF-2 with F-16 radar because here was “assumption” on forum about that. I want to prevent this misunderstanding
Fact
Let them think that if they want to but the truth is still here and passed to the devs where they ultimately make the decision.
I just think at some point we have to accept the game is realistic, not real, and some things just have to be done for gameplay.
Very well said
I bet they have to research the AIM-9M just like the F-15J.
When the F-2 gets added, I think it would make sense to give it the AAM-4B. The aircraft will have a very limited loadout for 14.0 jet (4x IR + 4x ARH) and lack HMD, so the powerful AAM-4B with extended range and AESA seeker might be the ‘‘gimmick’’ to balance out the cons.
Just usual AAM-4 is still nerfed compared to real performance, so there is no sence in AAM-4B
It’s likely they use the AAM-4B as the “unnerfed” AAM-4. Especially since AESA seekers aren’t really modeled to be as strong as theorized.
Then again they could model it differently as a way to make the F-2 competitive as a top tier fighter. The more I think about it, the more that approach makes sense and why Gaijin might be holding the F-2 back for now (as @Shplendyt mentioned).
Thing is we don’t need AESAs to be modeled accurately for the AAM-4B to be busted, it’s a Ka (K) band seeker. Most top tier RWRs only go up to Ku (J) band. Even with it lacking all other features of an AESA, and the other datalink features the AAM-4 as a whole is missing, this alone would make it obscenly strong.
Now that would be quite something.
The F-2 lacks proper radar jamming capabilities due to it’s limited transmission gain. It’s ECM suite supports radio communication (including datalink) jamming; and it has very strong jamming resistance, via a set of short and long wavelength sensors positioned around the aircraft to factor out signal interference.
I just checked, and I thought the Rafale could detect K-band too but it can’t. So the three EF2000s are the only top tier fighters (for now) that could detect an approaching AAM-4B.
If I’m not mistaken, there are already multiple radars in the game that are supposedly higher band than all RWRs can detect, but they are all nerfed to be able to be detected. I doubt we will see this on the AAM-4B, but it would be cool if they did add it.
It was fixed on dev server so when patch drops it should.
From what I’ve heard, AAM-4B should be basically immune to ground clutter and also very hard to notch, even with chaff, very resistant to jamming in general. We will probably never see it this strong in the game, but Gaijin is known to add stuff artificially nerfed.
High resistance to ground clutter and increased range should be enough for the F-2. Keep in mind I only propose this because the F-2 will have a fairly limited loadout compared to other advanced jets such as the Su-30, Typhoons, F/A-18 etc…
I agree. We are fortunate in that the AAM-4B (and AAM-5) is still an option to make the F-2 competitive for a while.
I forget though, the AAM-4B is also available for the F-15J(M) or is it only after the AESA upgrade?
Anything with the correct Rails, wiring and J/ARG-1 can use AAM-4(B).
F-15J(M) would be able to get the full range of current Japanese missiles including AAM-4B and AAM-5B as well.
For F-2 though if they gave it AAM-5 they would already shoot past what’s used on any service F-2, since these are only used by ADTW so far. It’d be really insulting to have us wait 2+ years for the F-2, only for them to implement an aircraft past service specs that is looking increasingly like it’d be worse than top tier anyways, considering there is no way AAM-5 would be implemented without equivalents for everyone else.
I still don’t get how they managed to skip the initial F-2. As an SARH carrier aircraft it could’ve been the perfect AESA testbed for them too…
Good to know
Yup AAM-5 would harm us more than it would help us. However there is a unique opportunity with AAM-4B if they keep it exclusive to the F-2 (for now anyway) and let it be the one of, if not the, strongest ARH to give it something worth having.
Then again, for us some of us Japan mains, we just want F-2, we don’t care if it’s top of the top or not.
