Mechanic that has a chance of disabling various onboard electronic systems when an aircraft fuselage is damaged

  1. It was probably a relatively small missile, likely a manpad
  2. The A-10 has a huge amount of redundancy in its systems. Large portions of it were likely destroyed/disabled. That redundancy isnt modeled in-game yet
  3. a missile to the engine likely wouldnt damage any of the electronics necessary for using weapons.

But in any case, I doubt that pilot was hanging around for all that long, and probably RTBed ASAP, probably preparing to eject if needed

So If I take a single 30mm round to my wing I should still be able to use my weapons right?

  1. this is War Thunder, the aircraft damage models have incredibly low fidelity at the moment
  2. It depends on where it hit. I could definetly see a single HE 30mm round knocking out the wiring at least for that wing

If you take 3-4 Rapier missiles hits centre mass, should you still be able to fire?

that woundt matter cause the change says specifically fuselage damage, a hit to your wing is still the same

There’s already a mechanic for that
It’s called modules
And it’s already on the su-25

and so far, it hasnt worked that consistantly. Ive still had many be unaffected by direct hits

Yeah, because getting your A2G weapons disabled in a heli doesn’t seal your death like getting your A2A weapons locked in Air RB does
In a heli, you can just go low-profile, hug the ground and limp back to the helipad, you’ll be safe from AA and most airplanes that either don’t have a radar, don’t have a good radar or aren’t actively looking for you. You can’t even be “spotted” like in Air RB

how is a helis gun turret or its stingers not its a-a weapons as well? Im really struggling to see the difference here?

seen that edit too late. Yeah thats partly true but also on helipad you dont have aa cover so even if you make it there your dead if someones looking for you. most planes starting at 10.0 can find you anywhere with radar no matter how much you hug the deck. But yeah awful spotting system in air rb is a problem in that regard

Quite frankly, if you have taken a significant hit in ARB, the most you should be able to do is limp back to base to repair. You shouldnt be able to dogfight after taking critical damage like that. Especially if you are on fire, in a flat spin

Have i mentionned ONCE being “on fire, in a flat spin” ?
I’m talking about getting splashed by missiles who got a near-miss and getting damaged by small missiles that hit “empty areas” of the plane, like the “tail” between the engines of the Su-27 family

Yes

Right? And a hit like that probably should knock at least one engine or all the control veins to the rudder

A thing it does half the time

so, you are probably a dead duck anyway.

And besides, the game has very low fidelity at the moment, the body is 1 piece. So a hit in places where it would affect weapons is the same part as you describe. Until that gets changed, there is no way to differentiate what damage where does.

Dead, with one engine out ?
And the rest of my plane pretty much intact ?
In WT, it’s till definitely flyable

No rudder, 50% power loss. Yeah. you arent going to be staying in a dogfight for long after that.

Exactly. but flyable =/= fightable.

you should be limping back home or looking to eject not ignoring damage like that because “I can still fly”

No ?

It’s WT, not real life
I still have missiles, my plane is still functional, if there’s an enemy nearby, i’ll just bag it BEFORE going trying to go back to base because running away only means i’ll die closer to the airfield.
Because i’m not out-running or out-turning anything with half my engine power

So you want to magically be able to ignore damage?

Sounds like you are playing the wrong game. Maybe ACE combat would better for you?

Try to tanks a missile or a ZSU in DCS with an A10 and you will see that this redundancy is not magic.

A single missile and all your screens are black …
Good chance to fly and use your armements without hydraulics and electronics …

No
I just want non-disabling damage to STAY non-disabling
Losing your weapon privileges because you got your fuselage oranged by a missile exploding nearby or because one of your engines is dead is straight-up idiotic since i’m already being punished (either maneuvrability or loss of engine power) for it

And, while they are two very different gamemodes, that’s like making you lose all functionnality in a tank because the crew got traumatized by the commander being vaporized and decided to apply the real-life tactic of getting out of the tank before a second shell impacts
