Mechanic that has a chance of disabling various onboard electronic systems when an aircraft fuselage is damaged

i had only main fuselage damage on my gripen-e (note no stability issues, disabled radar or missing surfaces) yet was completely unable to defend against a PL-8B because of the fact that when that mechanic goes active i cannot fire flares, so you are a sitting duck that can basically only run at toptier.

w-what!?

“weaponry” includes countermeasures too.

this is incredibly stupid and unfun

literally anti-fun game mechanic

that’s not an advantage, remember how it worked on helis? the detailed components required actually being hit and destroyed to disable specific systems, the simplified model that lacked components simply shut down systems as soon as something scratched the paint on the air frame.

makes the stock grind even more hellish:

  • try to get a kill with a low amount of missiles
amraam (especially C-5)'s weak seeker and undesirable low altitude performance will make its chance of miss very high.
  • if you leave the ground effect whilst spotted you’ll probably be hosed down with missiles
  • a lucky proxy hit will disable your only defense countermeasure against missiles that ignore the ground effect
your chance of death now whilst you can basically only run is quite high.

not. fun. at. all.
(yes i am coping and seething, and i won’t get over it)

Ok so I just had to google this after getting this exact thing after taking a grazing hit from a missile in my F-2, still being fully in control of the aircraft and capable of maneuvering and shooting, but the game saying my avionics were damaged and thus I couldn’t fire.

I was so confused, even more so when I looked at the Xray in the hanger and couldn’t find an avionics module that could get damaged (even my radar still worked).

missed out on an easy kill on the guy whos missile it was too, since he fired a 2km ARH which I had barely gotten into the notch in time for it to explode off the front of my aircraft instead of direct, hence the lower damage, after which I was able to turn and would of had a perfect side/rear aspect AAM3 at 1km for him to hold but alas, no :(

Also, For what its worth. Been grinding 13.7 air almost exclusively since the patch dropped, this is the first time I’ve seen this message pop up.
For all the people saying its stopping people in flat spins from dumping missiles: Not a single time I’ve been dead and in free fall have my weapons been disabled so far. The literal only time was now, when it didn’t do enough damage to shoot me down.

It happened quite a few times to me, so it does prevent that behaviour, but yeah, the fact that a near-miss can disable your armament (which also happened quite a few times to me) and punish you for the enemy messing up his launch is exceedingly annoying

The big problem is that flat spins usually happen when an aircraft loses all stability, which mostly happens when the wing or manœwring surfaces are hit. The mechanic seems to engage when the mid-fuselage section of the aircraft is sufficiently damaged.
