Maybe in a “universe” sort of way, but certainly not by the game itself doing it. Your idea is simple punishment for playing “wrong” without actually addressing the reasons that people choose to play “wrong.” You need to tackle the issue correctly and make people NOT WANT to ODL to fix this issue.
Every player wants something different and will complain about something different. You will NEVER satisfy everyone and trying to say that you have to fix all of the issues before people can play the game the correct way is just backward. Spoiler, you will still have ODLs even if you have EVERY mechanic ‘fixed’ perfectly. At the end of the day, making people unable to progress is the only way to truly mitigate ODLs. The lack of progress is an incentive to play the way the game was designed.
Its completely your view that its a punishment. All rewards are an incentive. Less incentive for playing the game the way its not meant to be played is a core tennant of ALL games.
So… in a ground battle, of which ALL are a domination type, are you going to punish players who never try to cap? Players that only ever camp near their spawn-point and don’t give a crap about the objective? Cuz IMO that also is not “the way the game was designed”…
No. However, it turns out if you kill a whole bunch of tanks on a single side of the map around the cap, its much easier for others to get the cap. Pretty basic principle. The reward for capping is the reward for playing correctly.
Many tanks aren’t designed to cap. Fixed arc TDs are awful, open topped vehicles just get artied.
ODLs aren’t improving the game for anyone but themselves. Better games lead to better player retention. They are already miserable with basic game mechanics. If they want to leave, let them.
I mean, not really. If you mean “the things that cause it is diverse” then yes, but thats because of many flaws in the game that can be isolated and fixed, that players routinely bring up. It’s not that every player has a unique reason… its that you can come up with many LEGITIMATE reasons to do so. Find the causes, isolate, fix.
Not a requirement
Nobody is saying that. I’m saying the healthy, functional way to go about doing this is to do as I said, and the negative way is to do what you’re suggesting.
A drastically smaller amount, yes. You also won’t have the ability to still complain about them because it will be much rarer.
You won’t fix ODL entirely by simply punishing RP gain either. Did you think this through?
It absolutely is not.
So is “fixing all the problems with the game that cause the issues” and yet it does so much more than just fix ODL, doesn’t it?
People complain about cas. They aren’t removing CAS. People complain about specific tanks. They already nerfing and upteiring tanks. People complain about shell types, br clusters, AA, ect. You can’t fix most of the problems people complain about because they AREN"T PROBLEMS. they are parts of the game they don’t like.
You can’t fix the game for ppl who buy premium tanks above their BR. You can’t fix the game for ppl who only like 1 tank in a br range. You can’t fix the game for CAS haters. Literally nothing you suggest will work. Your ideas are all DOA.
The reasons people ODL are fixable though, and would lead directly to far less ODL’ing while also just making the game more enjoyable for all players even disregarding the ODL aspect.
You can. It’s even been mentioned in this thread. Give them 3 spawns for every game they play in it and they are far less likely to ODL
XM-1, IS6, T29, EBR 1954, RU-251, OBJ 120, Turm3. How many utterly OP near game-ruining premiums have we had and you want to give them 3 spawns. About as bad of an idea as i’ve heard. The devs have a history of making prems OP so ppl buy them and taking a LONG time to fix them. No need to make them more dominant.
Your utopian ideas are delusional. ‘fix all the problems and people wont ODL’ is neither realistic from a dev side nor realistic from a player side.
That’s why I suggest vehicle sharing system to be implemented
One of the very few time I put effort into making a serious post, but too bad Gaijin shows no interest and it doesn’t even get approved to appears in the suggestion section lol
I’m talking about the players that are NOT covering the cap. They just sit near spawn like a stump, shooting at random enemies that come across their sights, but overall are doing nothing to help the team win.
Or when half your team goes the opposite direction from the single cap on the map, and “do their own thing” - blowing up a few tanks while the enemy actually follows the objective by taking the cap and holding it, because half your team doesn’t care. Happens A LOT on abandoned factory, which is why I hate the map.
Same with Attica where half your team is afraid to go over the kill-zone ridges because the other team was smart enough to take advantage of your skittish team. They sit there all battle, while tickets drain away from the 2 caps the enemy snagged while your team was having a campfire.
In the above instances the team is playing stupidly and will not be contributing to a win.
Until you can cure the above (what’s the saying - can’t cure stupid?) players will always have a reason to ODL. And no punishment devised will make them change. They will just park that garage and move on to the next one.
A lot of these have been fixed like… almost half a decade ago. There aren’t as many examples as you are trying to say. If anything this would get their BR’s fixes faster probably.
People on one cap maps should still spread out. The idea that everyone should lemming the point is just ignorant.
Attica is a horrifically designed map. Doesn’t matter if your team is skittish or not, going over those ridges is suicide and expecting your team to charge in is hilariously misguided. Go to B or c, A is justa death trap.
Yup, you can’t remove all reasons to ODL. literally impossible. Some just do it beacuse they want to, not because there is a legit reason. Let them, but let them also get very little reward. If they want to actually play the game they can progress. At some point they will run out of SL from playing the game their own way.
Ah yes, they didn’t have enough data to nerf the is6 when russia was closing on 80% wr when thunderskill had API access. 8 months of utter domination. I’m sure they needed… um… more time… Yeah, they knew it was OP, they aren’t fixing it faster.
You really don’t have a point. ‘fix all the things’ isn’t a point. Its a wish. I’ve spelled out a ton of reasons it won’t work and yours is just ‘well if they did this they MIGHT fix this for a small percentage of complainers’ while ignoring every point i brought up.
So draw more attention to it so the community outcry is enough to cause an issue and get it fixed. You’re literally asking to nerf RP rewards (without compensation in the other direction in any method to counteract even) to punish players for doing something that 1. Isn’t against any rules 2. The game INCENTIVIZES you to do on multiple occasions and 3. Relating to #2, is a natural result of the way the game currently functions.
How do you even fix premium RP/SL gain alone with this since a player wont have a lineup if they buy prems outside of their BR range? What is the theory here?
I don’t exactly think you have.
More that, fixing the exact reasons for why people ODL will cause less people to ODL, it’s pretty logical really in all honesty.
