AHEAD Main advantage is that it dosent use explosives to propell the fragments, it uses kinetic energy from the projectile wich causes a more controlled cloud of projectiles and, AHEAD like the one used in the PUMA wich can control the dispersion cone to an extremely wide or very narrow warhead, the lack of explosive in fact is what gives it the characterisitic shape of fragments on the target.

Yeah Even they themselves state the spin is what causes the subprojectiles to form this particular cloud shape, it uses an ejector but not explosive propellant

Chinese one is the same,
and both has, but a little explosive, or you can call it ejector, anyway its same thing, just used to push the projectiles apart to create the controlled cloud of projectiles
the bottom, it’s an electronic detonator, which will be set by the coil.

officially just called 35mm programmed ammo, since AHEAD is a trademark, but people just used to call this kind of ammo AHEAD
But u were right, it uses explosive, do You have any video or pics on tests for the ammo?

Looks pretty darn cool ngl, would like to see an update that adds this and the Skyranger 30 altough, i Will Say, if what You tell me is true the smaller fragments Will struggle a bit on bigger targets like planes and helicopters nontheless sounds like a great addition
it’s said to have different types, ahead type, and he-frag type for different target.
and guided bombs, which has thick metal shell, ahead’s projectiles can hardly pen
Chinese use TYPE 625 as guard of the long range AAM, programed ammo for small target, and normal ammo/apds for large targets/guided bombs.
The ahead tungsten balls have the power to punch trough bombs etc its designed to intercept ordinance as well

AHEAD was Made to deal with everything it can, from bombs to Even ballistic armor from helicopters
I saw some report about this before, about AHEAD, when against large missiles, it can’t destroy the missile or bomb, only damage its rudder and seeker, making it uncontrolled, but sometimes it will keep flying and hit target, though not accurate.
though the projectiles are made by tungsten, it’s only 3.3g, smaller than a 5.56mm bullet, which is about 5g, it cant pen most armored target
You are forgetting the core projectile as well, it isnt only the air burst projectile, it acts as a conventional ap anti air round with quite a high velocity as well. In case of puma etc the gun is to slow to reliably hit with the core penetrator. But this is not the case for the specialised anti air cannon from the skyranger which will reliably hit with the core as well
There are not things like core projectile, full of small ones
