Major Update "Firebirds" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 3)

Theres a Thai Harrier and the Prototype of the Type 24 ICV in the files, just not ready for prime time yet, probably be here in time for the update. (There’s also a bote)

this update feels like they gifted the british tech tree a glitter bomb wraped in the scimitar as that look like it might be a fun tank

Tornado GR4 needs

  • Air BR reduced to 12.0
  • 2x BOL for an additional 320 CMs
  • Storm Shadow
  • IIR PGM-500/2000
  • Hindenburg tanks
  • Litening III Tpod
  • Wing mounted Brimstones

or

  • FnF Brimstones

tbf do we need hindenburg tanks, i feel like max fuel + the current tanks is more than enough even with afterburning the entire match

They are in-game on the F3 Late already, they are just an easy C&P over.

In Sim though, it does mean you go from small amount of fuel management needed with the combat tanks, to just forgetting about it all together. Additionally, If we are expected to spend extended periods of time loitering to use the Brimstones 1 at a time, then we will need as much fuel as we can get.

i suppose so, im referencing it off how much fuel i use in a single match with the early f.3 (48 mins no tanks) and it usually lets me go the entire match on ab without refueling

We had a battlecruiser last patch. And there’s another boat in the dev server files right now, and I think a car of some kind? Maybe if we’re really good they’ll sneak in one of the dozen unused models like the Ki-64 (lol, lmao even).

@Morvran which is the internal pod which is the targeting pod

In Sim, in the F3. Max fuel + Combat tanks will last me barely enough time to use up 2/3 of my available missiles before having to RTB to refuel. I have actually had sorties where i’ve run out of fuel and needed to RTB before firing even 1 missile.

Given they are already in game, I think giving people the choice is better than just pretending they dont exist for the other Tornados. Really wierd to me that htey havent been C&Ped over yet to even the F3 Early yet.

Yep, Litening II is incorrectly modeled as Gen 1 and should be the Litening III at Gen 3

well i asumed from this which the data for is gotten in the files they would look diffrent but nope

Fortunately we’re getting an AV8S and the CTWV ICV this patch so we’re eating good for ground at least (the AV8S Should be good but we’ll see)

Litening II on the Gr.4 is gen 2, at least according to the files, and that picture says gen 2 to me as well. The gen 1 thermal is for internal sights (idk if the GR.4 has an internal sight, but otherwise it’s used for the sight of IIR weapons normally).

Also Litening III, I can tell you now, it’s not gen 3 thermals. Litening III has 640x480 or around that resolution IRL, which would only be modelled as gen 2 (just as Litening II). I mean I can tell you the entire story of Litening and WT, but in short: Litening II should have gen 1 thermal, but many planes in games would actually be using Litening II ER/AT models which upgraded the thermals to ~512x512 irl (gen 2 in-game), just Gaijin never bothered to model this correctly. Litening III was a seperate developement by Rafael to upgrade from the standard Litening II, whereas the US (Northrop Grumman) upgraded the Litening II instead. So they are of the same generation in that sense, so in this case III is not better than II necessarily.

Thats a pretty easy choice but Gaijin always makes it harder…

Hmm… Figured it would be. Still, GR4 never equipped Litening II. So does need to be fixed

Yes, this is why I keep the “turn on laser before launch” option off. But it also bothered me, like right now it is by standard in IOG mode, but switches to SALH mode when it sees the laser, but it can not switch back to IOG after that. I feel that this is just weird and not true to real life? I mean I would imagine if the laser is lost, it simply updates the SPI to where the laser was last seen and adjusts the IOG accordingly (it just has to counteract changes in orientation really). If Gaijin could make weapons go from SALH mode to IOG mode, it would be a nice buff to all IOG weapons and would certainly help Brimstones and Hellfires become quite a bit better.

Yeah. I’ve always been confused by this. The main reason Brimstone was given SAL was so that there was a man-in-the-loop but also to give them the ability to attack a target with greater accuracy to avoid colleteral damage.

So you’ve got a Tornado Gr4, its just fired a Brimstone at a target, its close to hitting the target and the laser on tpod stops working, now what, it just goes ballistic? You self-destruct it?

Just seems really wierd to me that the missile isnt smart enough to go… “I’ll just keep going in the direction I was going in before” Especially as that means that in the event the laser is re-activated, its not deviated too much

That is probably because Gaijin cant code it so that it changes based upon launch alt. At least I dont think launch alt affects it in game

@Morvran do you know if it has been bug reported that it should be able to carry them on all 4 fusalage hardpoints
