Major Update "Firebirds" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 3)

for now

Challenger 2 is more survivable better armor. better chance of getting a return shot kill.

What would / could beat it?

3.4 its cuts the return shot of a enemy tank down alot

Do you think the type 10 round is some one hit nuke round ?

Yeah but the advantage is already there to begin with.

0.6s is a big deal if the base reload is like 5-7s, but at 4s… who you tryna beat but yourself lol

The Strv 103, if given its proper reload and best piece of ammunition its not half bad if used very defensive

It had a variant of Slpprj m/90 and the L74 gun would mildly increase its pen to be like 440mm at a 3.2 sustained reload rate

It would survive maybe a single shot but the idea is to not be seen before you get two shots off as its still a right bugger to spot on thermals in good spots

Its a hole puncher with the worst spalling of any round arguable at top tier

Spalling against things with liners sucks for everyone. That’s not a Japan-unique problem.

Because the firfst shot with a type 10 round sometimes doesnt do shit because the round simple doesnt spall. Iit sometimes takes a second shot because of how poor that spall is

just barely worse than the Ariete

As someone who plays both Italy and Britain, that’s just a crazy statement. The Challenger 3 (TD) isn’t a competitive tank but putting it in the same line as the Arietes is a crazy reach.

The TD has actual turret and hull armour unlike the Arietes and talk about mobility all you want, it’s nothing of note and especially compared to vehicles like the T-80BVM or Leclerc.

The Arietes are still the worst modern MBT in-game and the gap between the Arietes and TD is pretty large.

Oh but the 5 second reload! - this has started to become the norm for NATO vehicles making this less of a redeeming factor.

It was when your tank is made of paper and the crew is so closer and return shot is messing you up

Again? How is that a Japanese only issue?

L27A1 from the Challenger 2 quite often does no post pen damage, and it has less pen than the Type 10 round so less chance of pen to begin with.

5 second reload with 4 round ready rack vs 4 second reload with 14 round ready rack gives the Type 10 way better short term fire rate and sustained fire rate than the Challenger 2. Better than most nations in game in fact

You spend a lot of time comparing Japan to countries who have it marginally better, but no thought to the countries who have it far worse.

All in all, in the wider balance of things, Japans MBT’s are not suffering.

If you dont kill the other tank out right or dont take its gun your are dead. It will 80-90 of the time kill you no matter what the mbt is or what round it is because you have next to functional armor and any hit can kill you pretty much

Because the type 10 is a paper tiger tank it has no armor to protect itself from return shots

I fully acknowledge Italy has it rough

The vast majority of other top tier tanks don’t have adequate or even useful protection either.

Outside of Relikt and Leopard wedges + appliqué, there’s basically nothing which stands up to top darts. (Edit - forgot, the Chinese ERA ain’t bad either)

Challenger 3TD has no spall liners and yes it has a little armour, but with all the ammo stored in the turret. With no spall liners. It rarely survives one round.

Both have some of the worst survivability in game, there is no doubt about it. If anything can aim even slightly and not hit the CR3TDs turret cheeks, then both are dead in teh first shot most of the time.

The slightly better mobility of the ariete combiend with the faster reload just barely edge them out ahead of it as those traits make it a slightly more effective glass canon. But its close, a hairs breadth at most

The challenger has the advantge of a more spread out crew and more room
