It shouldn’t be a tradeoff. Spikes never had a top down attack path modeled since they were added to the game. Hence why they go for UFP and turret cheeks. Bug report existed for years but Gaijin hasn’t fixed it yet. Seems to be more of a balancing decision since LMURs have the top down code.
They were given some guidance variation to avoid always going dead centre into UFP and turret cheeks

The BMPT with ATGMs it can guide gets more kills reliably than spikes. There is one counterargument that spikes should only be used against light vehicles for now. But cmon spikes were made to defeat MBTs with their top down attack IRL…
People are so addicted to the dopamine hit of the “Target Destroyed” ding that they forget how useful it is for your team to keep the enemy disabled and repairing
Somehow teamwork doesn’t count if you don’t personally get the ding
and light tanks are intended to be the counterpart to heavy tanks/medium tanks
plus yes, the terminator being able to use the atgms close quarters like a shotgun is a huge advantage
somehow this is only an argument for badly implemented nato ifvs while the russians get the everything annihilator 9000
I remember I fired a spike at an abrams point blank and it just flew over it. It was so pathetic the Abrams just tracked me and drove away lol.

Like the 30mm APDS on the BMPT is a very useful tool at disabling enemy tanks for your teammates

yes, and the 4 atgms are very good at destroying the enemy.
and it has the staying power to pepper the enemy enough for them to die eventually
don’t get me wrong I am good at using all the boxers in game, but comparatively they are poorly implemented
With the current general HEAT bug, there’s no post pen damage for the ATGM’s. Hopefully that gets fixed soon
