A large reason I believe that the US win rates at top tier are so bad is because they have to rely on like two or three other nations being with them to have a chance at winning, and more often than not those countries aren’t with them, regardless whether a new player bought a Click Bait or if the T-80 BVM has a Russian Bias button or not.
Matchmaking being centered around the US, Germany and Russia (i.e. “Major Nations”) is a mechanic that dates back to when the first “Minor Nations” (i.e. any nation outside of these three) were just introduced, like Great Britain or Japan. Back then these tech trees only had two, maybe three lines to them for air OR ground, not even both.
These days, when a nation gets added it’s either a subtree added to a tree that kinda needed something as filler, or it’s a near fully flushed out brand new tech tree. Even now, with all these “Minor Nations” being almost fully developed with some naval exceptions, they’re still classified as a Minor Nation according to the matchmaker. Due to this, matchmaking mechanics still abide by the rule of “everything must revolve around the Major Nations.”
I am, and have been for a few years, a believer that this mechanic must at least change. Currently, so long as there is at least one major nation on each team, then nothing else really matters, each minor nation is “equal to each other” in the matchmaker’s eyes. I think just about everyone can agree that Sweden and Japan are NOT even close to similar, let alone equals.
I’m not saying that every game should be every country in the game against each other, but instead of having games such as the US, UK, Japan, France and Israel, having 90% US players and one player from each other nation, against Germany, Russia, China and Sweden, with a fairly evenly distributed spread between the nations(because this is a perfectly fine result in the eyes of the matchmaking), either increase the amount of “Major Nations” in the matchmaking, like Great Britain, China or Japan since these trees have at the very least a flushed out ground and mostly air trees (sorry Japan those top tier options are limited) or straight up remove the mechanic altogether, so teams like the US, Germany and Russia can go against Sweden, China, Japan, Israel and France without having any of the three current Major Nations on the opposing team.
By removing/changing the Major Nation matchmaking mechanic, games (on paper) would be easier to find, teams could be more balanced, exampl, if they wanted to could even make teams more balanced by adding mechanics such as: If team A has Germany, then team B will have Sweden, or something like that. Just throwing ideas out there.
Apologies for the wall of text but frankly this issue has been bugging me for a few years and the current state of the US has forced my hand to ranting here. The US win rate situation can’t be blamed on bad players, premium purchasers, Russian, Swedish or any country bias, but a culmination of several things that makes it a severely bad experience, and I believe that this would alleviate a lot of issues without having to directly buff or nerf vehicles.
Thanks for your time
