I’m betting on the latter.
Russia has incredibly mid tanks at top-tier, the only reason their stats are high is the same reason it’s been for the majority of time where Russian MBT’s had decent stas: They get carried by other elements (CAS, heli’s, etc.).
Even the basic M1A1 Abrams is already superior to the T-80BVM (let alone the M1A2 SEP), the T-90M is just a worse T-80BVM and the T-72B3A is among the worst top-tier tanks in any nation.
You’re also cherry-picking the most recent stats.
Go back 1-4 months and check the performance stats of the T-80BVM then, they weren’t exactly pretty.
Nothing changed for these Russian MBT’s either, the only things that changed for Russia top-tier were things outside of their MBT’s (I.E., heli’s, SPAA, etc.).

You likely aren’t getting an APS/LWS Leo for a while. I believe SEP V2 could mount LWS and Trophy, which would be nice. SEP V3 though, is not needed, much like the 2A8.

War Thunder meta = Mobility + First hit kill/cripple.
M1A1 offers better acceleration than a T-80BVM, better hull traverse, 4x faster reverse speed, better gun depression, massively faster reload, better APFSDS, etc. etc. etc.
There’s a reason why the faster MBT’s with snappy gun handling (including the M1A1) are picked over the T-80BVM/T-90M in tournaments.
Unfortunately, these excellent M1’s get saddled with a playerbase that couldn’t even pour water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel.

Well, you can’t simply blame all of this on the USA players. Because tanks with stronger protection always have a better lower limit. Not every player can reach the upper limit of mobility and one-shot kills. The reality might be that most M1 and Leopard 2 players have a K/D ratio between 0.8 and 1, while a few have a K/D ratio between 3 and 5. On the other hand, most Russian tank players have a K/D ratio between 1 and 1.2, and a few have a K/D ratio between 2 and 3. In fact, tanks like the M1 or Leopard 2A5 have almost no margin for error in terms of protection.
Abrams are definitely a high skill cap and even ping cap tank which isn’t a factor in a tournament. Average players will just encounter missed shots, bad map placement and first shot timing. A single center mass shot will take your ring out of business then it’s GG.

Leo 2 ATD is a leo 2a4 upgrade, from the revolution upgrade series.
2a7a1 is missing the frontal armor plate, its an upgrade from the 2a6a3
So they arent even uparmored, they have worse base armor then the 2a7V

2A7 in particular at least, is one of the best armoured MBTs in the game with one of the best darts with a decent reload, good mobility and gun handling and decent survivability. Small and volumetric breech spot, and trolly UFP armour, and iirc spall liners no? Dont really see how this tank is bad.

Overall it makes it a jack of all trades.
And the Armor is more spoty and not reliable anymore
not to mention one of the few implemented turret baskets nerfing it immensively

Good explanation. However, I hope it would be better to directly incorporate the Leopard 2A8. As the use country for the Leopard 2, Sweden has been stronger than Germany for many years (perhaps only because Gaijin wants more people to develop Sweden). Germany also needs at least another Leopard 2 with D armor because in the near future, Sweden will obtain the Strv 123 (purchase Leopard 2A8). At that time, Germany will have no advantage at all.
