It is not slow to react. It has mediocre acceleration, a decent top speed, and a decent turret traverse. Its hull rotation speed is poor compared to other tanks, and its elevation speed is average.
There are tanks that react much slower, and other heavy tanks at the same BR that react much faster.
The people who think a tank should be 100% frontally invulnerable are the ones with the mindset problem. People at like its the easiest thing in the world to successfully flank, and that somehow sitting stationary the entire game is the hardest thing in the world. It’s the mindset that got the 5.3-worthy (imo) M18 to 6.0.
The M18 going up is exactly what I’m referring to, that’s a great change. Light vehicles have mobility, (usually) size, scouting, arty, and so on in their favour; they have everything going for them except armour… and as such their place is not fighting things head on. Just like SPAAs shouldn’t be (though not to that much of an extreme).
Heavies, on the other hand, trade basically everything for armour, aside from sometimes a decent-to-good gun.
Heavies facing things that can frontally pen them at their own BR (aside from things that trade a lot to have a good gun, like TDs/etc) means they lose their one main reason to be, and are essentially just bad mediums.
Light tanks that can’t frontally pen things with heavy armour lose… none of their actual intended benefits. They still get to be fast, small, and get bonuses none/few others get.
I’d be more inclined to accept “everything should be able to frontally” if everything also had access to arty and scouting. Those abilities are supposed to be bonuses which help make up for weaknesses.
Not being able to frontally engage well is why light vehicles get both. Having trouble with heavier targets is why light/mediums get arty, and why heavies and TDs don’t.
The slow heavy tank situation vs modern and fast is compounded by having a new or often a full line up of unmodded tanks which are even more useless.I can see why many players stop at a certain relatively early BR. For an adult with historical interest in Armour the game not only becomes childish and silly but no fun to play.Every hit at the side or rear early into the game by a vehicle 20 or 30 years newer than my WW2 heavy becomes an insult and often results in early leaving or just quitting WT or playing only before 5BR as many do.WT could remodel itself slighty to cater for this many think, but could it? I think its a mistake Gaijin are stuck with.I think low tiers work ,high tiers work but mid tier sucks.
this is why i hate modern light with modern high pen ammo, or modern high pen ammo at all, at a ww2 br. Like they have every light advantage (maybe even more like gun traverse etc) vs heavy at its br on top of having a gun that can easily pen anything that negate armor of a heavy in its br, or much above in many case, thus making heavy tank advantage basically non existent, the heavy become a less agile, bigger, slower, (in many case) slower turret travers medium tank at that point, basically a medium tank without medium tank advantage
So the PtW is the best on the IS-2 and the IS-3 is ever so slightly better. The 2 H is the worst. Yes, the Tiger II H has neutral steering, but unless in very tight spaces, I’d rather drive forward a tiny bit and then go left or right, so the IS-2 is better here. The IS-2 will also accelerate faster than the Tiger (with the IS-3 as far as I know not being that different to the Tiger, though far better armored) and is the likeliest to reach top speed (good luck reaching top speed outside of very specific circumstances with the Tiger II H on the current WT maps).
Brawl battles as seen in the past are almost impossible to see now, at least from my perspective. According to Gaijin’s logic, every tank must be able to be frontally penetrated without much issue, which literally makes heavy tanks almost completely useless.
I don’t see any reason why a WW2 tank should get molested by ATGM’s or any cold war tank.
Remove the current BR system, it’s flawed and does NOT make any sense to give a vehicle a battle rating, just to send it in battle against a far superior vehicle.
If I wanted to que up for a, lets say 6.0 battle, then I expect to play that BR, not 7.0 or 5.0…
No idea why the playerbase is just letting them get rolled like this without a fight against the developers.
The problem is how the BR system is used, and how some BRs are just nonsensical.
Historical matchmaking by itself would be horrible and unbalanced, because real life is unbalanced as nations constantly try to one-up each other massively. At any point in history, there are nations that just have “better” tanks.
The complaint is that late heavies can face ATGMs, but historical match making would make it so a P-51D-5 could face an Me 163.
I could care less about arty and scouting, they more or less have no benefit to your tank specifically. Being mobile and having a somewhat small size are variables with a wide range, with both factors for most light tanks not warranting having terrible guns.
No, it means heavies have to actually use their brain while playing, using terrain and obstacles like everyone else does.
The M18 is a tank destroyer.
Again, I have no idea why you think arty and scouting are so good. They are abilities meant to either help out your team or maybe, in one out of every ten games, get a kill.
If you don’t want your heavy tanks to face HEATFS singers from 20 years into the future, we need some way to make those vehicles viable as an option to play at a much higher BR.
My idea would be to rework and expand the class of Reserve vehicles in this game. They would cost no SP to spawn but would have a fixed, limited number of spawns (2 seems good). That way something like the Ikv 103, with its 400mm pen HEAT, can be put at 8.0, for example, and still have a place in the game.
The 6.7 game is pure excrement, heavy tanks are so slow that somebody on your own team will have 4 or 5 kills while you are still on spawn doing 3mph.That is so depressing that its enough to make you leave the game before the enemy even has the chance to hit you up the rear in a 1980s AFV.I have no interest in listening to forum fantasy, the game becomes a dog turd at 6BR onwards especially with a full line up of unmodifed vehicles.I would have more fun plaiting dogshit.
Interesting proposal, but it would absolutely gut trees that need the postwar tanks for lineups. Honestly its just fine atm, anyone wanting a Pbv 301 at 8.0 is schizo
It would need to be done on a case by case basis. Postwar tanks that use WWII tech only are fine where they are. Tanks like the ARL-44, Pbv 301, and Concept 3 wouldn’t move, but the Pt-76, Ikv-103, and Ratel 90 would.
Ah yes, the incredible, massively overperforming powerhouses that are the PT-76B, Ikv-103 and Ratel 90. Surely, these titans deserve to fight first gen MBTs at minimum.
Where would these end up in your system? What infinitely more capable vehicles would they be asked to fight every game? Who would even play them?
I don’t think this really needs to be moved. I’ve played it before and it’s kinda clumsy, especially in all the new city maps. I can’t get anywhere without Austin powering myself. May just be skill issue on my end though.
The PT-76 has completely average mobility for the tier, most medium tanks can keep pace with it just fine, and the Comet even outpaces it.
The Ratel is actually pretty slow, it’s got a heavy tank level power to weight ratio of just 14 hp/t on top of being a wheeled vehicle, meaning it’s mobility is even worse off road. You know, the exact kind of area you’d want to be flanking.
The Ikv is the only one with above average mobility, but what exactly can you do with it in a casemate with paper armor, slow gun handling and a massive hole in the frontal armor?
