I used the E model a few battle pass seasons ago to get that challenge done for getting the adamant award multiple times, I literally just parked in the open, Angled, And sat there letting people shoot me without shooting back and got the task done in just a couple games.
The E/B are like the only tanks in the game where you can be a pacifist and still be in the upper middle of the teams scoreboard from all the shots you bounce.
Last time i abused the B model was back when the Jumbo was 5.0 and the M4A1/A2 76 and M18 where at 4.7/5.0 and still managed a 4.2 K/D in it, Even if it went up by .3 it would still not face many of the tanks it used to fight, Its crazy how long its been able to dodge the BR changes when multiple other KV models have been moved up.
The reason why it dodged those raises is because it’s OP, plain and simple
People don’t buy it because the tank is historical or because it has a different armament, people know you can’t pen it easily, amd if it’s angled you can’t pen it at all
Sure, you can still be OHK if you find a competent player or if you don’t know how to play it’but you simply have 2 requisites:
Angle
Be aware of your surroundings
Hell,i find the KV-220 easier to kill than the KV-1E/B
The average doesn’t take into account rank of vehicles played. So people who mostly play < Rank VI will have better stats, as both of these players do. Doesn’t inherently mean they’re better in all tanks.
It’s surprising,i know, but even not angled, you just can’t pen it: not on the LFP,not on the UFP,not even the turret front. If you’re lucky you can hit the MG or the turret ring, and on the sides you must be extremely precise otherwise the tracks will eat the round
Anything with a 17pdr works. The Sherman firefly/Avenger deals with it in an uptier, where it probably will get molested by Panthers instead, and Achillies deals with it in a downtier
I honestly don’t think a slow heavy tank with 70mm of penetration belongs facing Panthers, M4A2 (76W)s, T1E1s or ARL-44s.
It is already a huge stretch that it can face stuff like M6A1 or VK 30.02 (M).
It has good armor in downtiers when perfectly angled? No way, a heavy tank’ heavy armor performing as such. Unacceptable.
People are so used to easily lolpenning overtiered heavy tanks that the moment they come across one that may be able to withstand some fire in downtiers it’s deemed to be “OP”. And you disagree, you are a “noob” or a “seal clubber”.
The only KV I believe should go up is KV-1B; because it’s the same as E, except, since it’s on the German side, it won’t face half of its direct counters, which is the German 75mm guns.
I mean 1E can just get a german player into his squad and it’s same thing. It also gets much, much better lineup on top of it.
1B and 1E could go to 4.3 to comply with “better for 1 vehicle to suffer than entire BR bracket becuase of it” rule gaijin has applied to every single competent heavy tank in existance.
Right now, Russia 4.0 is a very solid lineup; even after some of their 3.7s (T-34 1942) were uptiered to 4.0.
But now it’s being torn apart with VK-1S being thrown into 4.3… and if KV-1E were too, the only heavy tank available for 4.0 is the extremely mediocre 3.7 KV-1 U-11.
With KV-1S and KV-1E sitting at 4.3… the rest of their lineup would still be 4.0. Except now those 4.0s would need to face 5.3s.
Uptiering the 4.0 KV-1s is effectively uptiering the whole 4.0 lineup, unless you are willing to play a 4 4.3 vehicle lineup.
I don’t think vehicles should be balanced based on such specific premises tbh.
If such single premise can even out it’s performance with a tank that in your version of the game would be higher in BR it should absolutely be taken into account
I still find a lineup without Medium Tanks to be… odd.
You would either have heavy tanks with weak gun and not-so-relevant-anymore armor, or a solid tank destroyer (I’ll give it that).
KV-7 is kinda neat, but a limited event vehicle not everyone has. Besides, I don’t think it’s as good as the KVs, since it can’t even be angled at all, so we are looking at 100mm flat plates facing 150+mm pen shells.
