Afaik, early k2 don’t use AI tech in FCS since it developed before 2010.
It’s pretty much same as most of the 3.5 gen MBTs

Ik about that but explaining the ammount of stuff the K2 with late AI could do would take me ages it’s honestly impressive how advanced is it

AI would be really helpful in future battlefield for sure.
Especially there are lots of threats emerging like drones.

Germany has been thinking of equiping their new leopard 2A8 with a laser aps to counter drones idk much about this i just know that it kinda works rn

I saw one of the K2 varients in 2023 ADEX and it equipped with portable jammer mounted on RWS, since most of the threats are weak commercial drones, it would work battlefields like Ukraine

Type 99 got more refined

I hope they add a new ammo for it

Does type 99 have laser range finder?
I see some people say it has, but i can’t find offcial documents or video

Type 99 third update.
It is now more or less finished, all 28 shells are modeled inside the auto-loader, gained 8.5 km/h more reverse speed from 20 km/h but top speed is nerfed from 50 kph down to 47 kph, added one extra fuel tank, added more 5mm bulkhead armor surrounding engine compartment, fixed missing turret ring armor, L15A2 is still not added.

Since there is no evidence nor mention of any kind of range finder on Type 99 so it is safe to assume that it does not.

Wouldn’t the JGSQ-W3 act as a pseudo-LRF though?

From videos it seems to obtain coordinates pretty fast

It is demonstration, obviously prepared and know distance for every target

Even if the ranges are known it doesn’t change the fact that the FDC can calculate the range and relay it to the FCS mounted on the Type 99.

pseudo laser rangefinder based off gps

But is it worth bug-report, that’s the question

If it’s already a source they’ll accept I’d say so. It’d be great if the Type 99 got some sort of rangefinding, might even make it viable against helicopters and the sort.

I don’t know, personally i don’t care if it have a range finder or not, i’m more than satisfied with the BR it is given because currently my Type 75 MLRS at 7.0 has nothing else to play with.

Additionally having such a high velocity gun is already a big advantage than even a proper tank at this BR, most of them can’t even exceed 900 m/s muzzle velocity. And it should be much easier to aim with compare to the Type 75 SPH + incredibly good optics ontop thus it doesn’t need a LRF unless you are planning to up BR it to 8.0+ for some reason.

Behind what you found behind those leather materials would be asbestos. Which was set up to keep the crew warm.

So it requires FDC’S assistance right?

I was a SPH operator and i assume Type 99 uses similar techniques like us, K55A1, K9A1’s FCS we are currently using.

It requires pre mapped MAP data, Weather data, barrel condition and so on.
So by using these data, after we put coordinates, FCS automatically calculates and gives us the angle, direction and which gun powder should we use.

So its not like laser range finder, it’s for long range target.
And requires FDC’s assistance for precision.

Thought you might be interested. Although this is the retired Type 75 not Type 99.
But it might give you some idea how the JSDF operate their artiller piece.
