Javelin F.(A.W.) Mk. 9 In game performance and inconsistencies

  1. First of all, the javelin has an incorrect maximum speed show in the statcard (and I assume a lot of other values are also incorrect)
You can see that in a test flight the IAS has well surpassed 991 km/h, and it kept accelerating untill it broke it’s wing.

  2. The javelins fuel consumption is wrong, as it can be seen in the followin video:

  3. The rip speed of the Javelin might be incorrrect
The book “Gloster Javelin: An operational history” describes the following maneouver:

The height difference could be taken out in the late stages of the interception using a ‘snap-up.’ The technique was to roll out behind the target and then dive down 5,000ft, accelerating to about .95M until the target was at a 30° elevation above the fighter, then pull upwards. Theoretically at least the radar-laid belly turret of a Soviet bomber could not track a fighter through this manoeuvre.
(Chapter 4)

However when trying to execute this in the game, you will most likely rip of your wings due to exceeding the maximum IAS unless you are extremely high. Even if you do not rip of your wings, it will be a close call, and it’s unreasonable that they would push the airframe to the limits in a training excercise.

  1. I don’t have concrete proof for this, but the Javelin handles damage extremely badly, even a few rounds will often cripple the aircraft and force it into an unrecoverable flatspin even though the wing didn’t even break off nor was it black. Maybe this could be looked at because it seems excessive that a portion of a wing being red makes the entire plane flatspin

At what altitude do Bombers usually fly at? 20,000ft? 30,000ft?

Good point, it wasn’t specified but it might have been high.

The rest of my post still stands

Yeah I agree with the rest of it.

The damage models in game are woeful for aircraft. Its pretty much every aircraft. The Tonkas cease to be supersonic if any part of their fuselage becomes orange.

What is needed is a total overhaul of the damage model, adding more internal modules and breaking the exterior model down into smaller pieces. Would go a very long way to fixing the damage model issues

The damage model mechanics are ancient and even with the missile damage changes- more likely to break off wings or something, its still very nonsensical and a bit random

This aircraft used its TRIM TABS as its ELEVATORS for like 4 years until gaijin finally fixed it and actually modeled the elevator. That is how much gaijin cares about the UK tech tree.

In WT every flatspin is unrecoverable because of the instructor. The second your plane is in flatspin, the instructor kicks in and you have no control over your plane at all.

Not if u disable instructor with C key or by overwriting the instructor’s commands to your aircraft by using your own wasdqe keys. I recover from flat spins in air rb fine

The damage model to flight model interactions also need to be properly un-buggered. So many times I see some random jet lose both wings and basically have no issues flying and killing things, but if a Mirage or Tornado takes a scratch, they either become uncontrollable or gain the drag profile of an open fridge.

Things work fine for props, but with high performance Jets the old damage models really start falling apart.

I remember the times when F-86 Sabres would regularly shed their wings, be considered “dead” by the game and then orbit the enemy airfield with impunity.

Can’t forget the MiG-23 also somehow having 90% of the required lift for flight in the stubby wing roots, but god forbid the A-10 take a few 20mm AP-I rounds to the wingtip.

Whistle innocently

But yes. I do agree. Some aircraft just seem to be able to tank everything

Exactly what I’m talking about there. Except the F-86 and others for some reason lost almost zero performance when flying around without wings. Heck, they seemed to become even faster without wings. At least now your plane flies poorly when damaged, most of the time. F-5 and Su-25 damage models notwithstanding.

Exactly, it’s soo inconstent. It’s infuriating taking a bit of damage and this already unrealistically sub-par airframe becomes an actual death trap (even though it was described as sturdy)

Gaijin pls fix
