Japanese Weapons Master Thread

I’ve missed that manual. There are good results with search words “Report No. 15n”.

I had predicted some time ago that the Ki-49 was able to carry 2x 500kg just from looking at how spacious the bomb bay is, glad to see I was right. The 100kg addition is also great.

With the 2x 500kg loadout I might bring them out in ground RB.

o7 thanks for your service

I need to learn Japanese, I have many bug reports I’d like to do with the cursory English information I have, but Japanese sources are far more authoritative…

AFAIK, this was also theorized on the old forum, so I’m not sure why it took so long. I believe there is also a 1000 kg (?) bomb, but it’s mainly for bunker-busting, and thus has a limited charge.

Also, anyone know of the Ki-67 bombload in game being accurate? I plan on doing a bug report for the Ki-67s turrets, and the thought of the bombs came up.

Other than the heaviest loadout being just 850kg (single torpedo) on a bomber with really good engines? None of the loadouts are huge outliers like on the Ki-49, so only if the max load is wrong.

I also have my suspicious on the G4M which shares the ki-49’s inconsistencies - the bomb bay is HUGE (and doesn’t have doors), there is a 4x250kg loadout available but only a single 500kg can be carried. The multiple 60kg load is also very underweight.

What’s wrong with the turrets?

If you’ve ever used the nose or tail turrets, you’ve probably noticed it will sometimes make a weird arc before following your cursor again. Gaijin is very lazy, so they didn’t bother to model it correctly. Basically, it’s supposed to look like this:

Obviously, with the glazed dome being free to rotate, it should have even more movement

I’ve noticed that, seems to be since on the Ko model’s rear turret, the glass in front of it only has a slot for the gun instead of a full opening like the Otsu. So to aim, first the glass dome needs to rotate and then the gun can aim.

Is it not supposed to be like that?

Nope. It should be able to rotate and aim at the same time. Maybe @Teh0 knows more

Where does the idea about rotating window come from? It seems very odd to me, specially when the gun itself is in such heavy mount. The window shouldn’t be too much extra to turn with the gun itself. I don’t see any kind of mechanism to separately rotate the window.

Spoiler

Those pages, gun angles and bomb load can be found from the service manual here and from couple of books.

Do you mean it should function like this?

I can show you an example of the two-part motion that’s currently in-game if you want to know what I mean

Why doesn’t it just turn normally?

I am not an aircraft designer, but I will make a guess, this is due to the geometry of the fairing windows, if you try to give the machine gun a wide angle of fire from one fixed position, this will lead to a large hole in the window itself and unnecessary air disturbances. What is shown in the video is the optimal option, taking into account the technical development of that period, but it reduces the speed of targeting at targets flying diagonally relative to the turret - as usual, engineering solutions are always compromises.

Those are clearly mounted to the window. Probably Ki-67 also has to turn the glass with the gun, but the gun isn’t mounted to it. That’s why I think it should at least rotate faster.
The big problem in game is how the gunner always rotates the glass first, while it would often be far faster to turn the gun first and rotate afterwards or at the same time.
