Japanese Suffering

I think it’s really more that they get into a fight when a Zero is nearby or can swoop in.

A Zero is very good support fighter since they force the enemy into a specific play style unless they want to get punished.

You can’t really focus a Zero as a target from the start because it will drain your energy and make you susceptiable to other fighters but while the Zero is around you can also not waste your energy with another fighter since you need to keep speed to keep the Zero away.

Of course once a Zero is alone is has almost no chance to win a dog fight with any other plane but it can still work very well for a team.

It is that bad. It has ONE redeeming quality, which can be countered by anyone who can find two braincells to rub together.

That’s at sea level. In 2nd supercharger speed (above what, like 3km?) it drops to sub 1000hp.

It has the same guns as every other japanese navy fighter.

It has some redeeming qualities. Same Sakae 21 as the A6M5s, but keeps the slightly longer wings from the A6M2s and A6M3 mod22. So at the cost of a little top speed, it has better turn and retention.

J6K1 has 6 of them…

6 of them, and they’re in pairs of 3 in the exact same place. If you’re avoiding one, you’re avoiding all the others as well, this isn’t like a 190 A8 where it has guns everywhere.

Ok? The point is if the J6 gets guns on for 0.1s you are dead unlike most planes

It has little chance of winning against a Bnz. Not a dogfight. A Dogfight will dominate cause it was designed for it. But in a BNZ no.

If you’re dead to the J6K you’d have at least taken some damage from other aircraft, and winning a fight is much harder when you’re crippled.

It is a lot of firepower, but not so much more that it is some kinda wonderweapon when compared to an N1K2-J or F4U-4B firepower-wise.

No logic found, also its the top 1% of firepower in a single engine prop… it’s a stupid amount.

And as I said, they’re all in the same place on the wings, and spread very far apart. It offers no meaningful advantage over having 4x 20mm.

except it does because its called damage. The difference is one gun shooting you versus 3. It is not a hard math problem.

Plenty of fighters at its BR are using 4x 20mm, which is more than enough to shoot down anything. Adding another pair isn’t a big difference.

Speaking from experience, it is a big difference.

If you got lousy aim, maybe.

Not going to continue this

Good, because it’s a stupid argument to make. Arguing that the J6K is so much better firepower-wise than other planes with 4x 20mm because it has two more isn’t exactly an open-shut case.

Isnt the J6K1 pretty heavy and cumbersome anyway? I dont own it so im not sure how it stacks up.

Plus its 6.7, literally the current highest BR of prop fighters. Im not sure what more you could want. The Spitfire Mk24 was unplayable at 7.0 and thats probably faster than the J6K, and those 4 Mk.V hispanos are much more powerful guns than the Type 99 cannon the J6K1 gets even if it gets more of them, so I wouldnt think the J6K deserves to go up any higher just from those two facts alone.

As for the rest of the japanese tech tree, Ive actually spaded every single prop fighter in the tech tree so far except the J2M5, and am working on the bombers as well now (and the last few jets). Along with playing up to at least around 5.0 in almost every other nation, except sweden and Italy so far. (Im at jets for USA, Germany, and UK)

My opinion is that the A6M3s and A6M5s are generally over BRd by at least 0.3, some of them 0.7 compared to the competition. (I will laugh in the face of anyone who tries to argue that the A6M5s deserve to be 1.0 higher than a Yak 3). A couple of the Ki-61s are over BRd by about 0.3, the J7W is like, 1.0 too high, and thats mostly it. You could maybe bring the Ki-84 Hei down by 0.3 as well imo.

The Zeros are definitely the worst off. People just refuse to stop turn fighting them, so their stats keep going up.

A Zero stuck fighting an energy fighter that wont turn is completely helpless. You literally cant do anything about it except repeatedly dodge his runs and hope he makes a big mistake, or a teammate shows up.

At 5.0 the A6M5s are reliant soley on enemies being preoccupied or otherwise unaware to get kills, because you cant hope to keep up with them otherwise.

Debatable. Type 99-2s hit really hard at the moment, even with just two of them. They’re on par with Hispanos.
It’s definitely slower, but I reckon a J6K could out-dogfight a Mk24 without much difficulty, the late spitfires got way too heavy as a side effect of still using an outdated airframe.
At 6.7 it is very overtiered.

Functionally just a worse J2M3 atm.

I’d say A6M5s are overtiered by more than .3 or .7. Their engines don’t even push out 1200hp and yet they see F2Gs and Yak3Us. Their one advantage can be entirely negated with some care.

Early Ki61s are fine, the issue is all the ‘late’ ones - Hei, Tei, and the 61-II. First two have same flight performance as the 3.3 one, but sit a full BR higher due to slightly better guns. Ki-61-II is a Ki-100 sidegrade that sits .7 above it.

Honestly you could drop the J7W to 4.0 and it would STILL suck. It has significantly worse flight performance than the XP-55, only the guns are an improvement. It’s been in dire need of a flight model rework for YEARS.

Ki-84 Hei could easily go to 6.0 especially now that the japanese 30s got a pretty substantial nerf.

These aren’t the only ones though. Ki-43-III is a pretty bad one, mostly the same flight performance as the 43-II, but sits 1.3 above it because it gets a pair of 20mm cannons which aren’t even THAT good. Its BR comes from when it had an extra ~300hp, but that got nerfed a while ago.

Pretty much all the 2 engine fighters are overtiered, with maybe the J5N and Ki-96 being exceptions.

The N1K2-Js are simply too slow and too heavy to really be 6.0 aircraft, they’re overweight compared to what they should be.

Or just… bad. Seen quite a few players that just make huge mistakes and end up at low speed, within 800m ish of my A6M3 or A6M5 and at that point there isn’t much you can do. Or fall for the ol’ “dance in front of their guns” bait to get them slow.
