I heard about the nerf, and that it was now possible to out roll the missiles. Although I didn’t notice anything in practice yet. The PL-12 is still pulling turns about on par with AAM-4, maybe slightly better even. It’s still a good missile and I would pick them over AIM-120 if I had the choice.
If the complaints about the PL-12 were torwards the Derby/R-darter it would make more sense. Now they seem to suffer from a similar tracking/autopilot issue from what people talk about, but it still pulls better than the derby
This reduction has made the PL-12’s available maneuverability the weakest among active radar-guided missiles. According to missile performance simulation data, its maximum overload within the full-speed envelope is even inferior to that of the AIM-120C series, which is considered less maneuverable. Moreover, its long-range performance and specific impulse offer no significant advantages over other similarly less maneuverable missiles.
I highly doubt it its any worse than the derby, which has trouble going over 20G.
You also can’t expect it to have similar energy/maneuverability retention at range as the 120C while having far better HOBS performance. Only the R-77-1 enjoys that mix
the thing i noticed after some time is the normal pl12 is not doing so much great in bvr.
i tend to do 25km bvr with jf17 and su30mkk and even j10c ( stock grind rn ) and its just sad…
i dont know if its my skills in notch or the missile. but the enemy take 3 chaff to notch it when i take 9-12 chaff just to notch a mica or a aim120d.
same goes for pl12a, its the range.
Derby and Darter have been buffed, currently PL12 is worse than Derby.
Derby is found on few aircraft; the PL12 nerf affects ALL top-tier Chinese aircraft.
I wish Derby also had better performance or an improved version of it in the game, but this topic/discussion is intended for PL12.
I tested both pl12 and aam4 back to back, its very hard to see which one pulls more. The pl12 seems to be a little snappier but they behave more or less identical in situations where the missile needs to pull to the max.
Its been fine for me, id rather have pl12 than derby anytime. Im yet to see the pl12 failling to connect by out rolling them.
Not saying its impossible, but never happened and they are one of my most reliable missiles for medium short ranges.
The one where I encountered more issues with tracking/autopilot and low pull is the derby by far
I am genuenely curious on how you came up to such conclusion when confronted with the pictures provided above.
The solution is to revert the PL-12 changes, fixing the blatant maneuverability issues
Besides from what i’m hearing, derby and PL-12 are pretty much on the same boat, so it’s like doing a “trash vs garbage” comparison
I don’t think any nation relies on Derbys above 14.0 either
I think I made a video on both a while ago. But essentially I used the test drive and shoot both at the same time (after restarting, so the target and I are in the same relative positions) into an off bore target with similar launch conditions.
The PL-12 was noticeable more snappy but that might be related to some issue with the auto pilot that didn’t use the most optimal trajectory, but still managed to snap and hit the target under more or less the same limit conditions (by limit I mean that if I shooted the missile some fractions of a second later it would miss)
I timed the shoots the best I could by keeping the same speed and then launching at the target when it reached a specific distance, while the target flew over me, so the missiles had to make an off bore pull
Which now simply equips PL12 for long range and R-77s for close range and is largely unaffected by the change other then having an extra missile to cycle through.
Define “a while ago”.
It’s been just a bit over 1 month since the PL-12 nerf (23rd of april).
It’s also great that the PL-12 works for you, but the truth is undeniable and its pretty much relegated to being a Fox-3 sparrow, and whatever experience you might have with them may not be the same for other people. For example i’ve also used the derby, on the kfir C10 and had very few issues with them, if any at all (at least after the range buff, despite you stating they seem rather lackluster).
i’ve already seen my missiles being outrolled or outpulled multiple times, most blatant case being a gripen effortlessly outrolling a PL-12 i fired him head on at point blank range, which would’ve never happened before the changes.
I’ve also had them fail to pull enough to hit targets at close range, whereas It would’ve had no issues doing so before.
What’s wrong with my post that caused it to be flagged and hidden? Can anyone help me?
Just edit the post add an extra spacing somewhere or smthin, p sure it causes the post to reappear, if it gets flagged again it gets reviewed by a mod instead of automated
chinese toptier become a pain after the PL-12s nerf
I edited it, but it was hidden again 1 minute after the edit. How do I contact the mod?
