I know they can be out rolled, I just said it never happened in my matches. I’d still take them over aim120 for 13.7 aircraft
Im not sure, it was right after the flood of topics complaining about the recent PL-12 bug/nerf. Unless there was another one after, we’re talking about the same.
Im on mobile and cant find the topic/comment. I think I still have the videos on my PC but Im away.
When launching at below mach speeds, in high off bore situations, the PL-12 is/was slightly better than the AAM4, maybe about the same.
At high speed launches I haven’t tested.
It seems to me that it is also suffering the same or similar autopilot issue that the derby has had for a year or more, people just cry about it more because it affects a larger nation than Britain’s gripen or israeli jets.
I just hope the PL-12 orderal gets a fix and also brings the deserved attention to the derby and r darter situation. I have posted videos about these issues and made bug reports but to no avail.
The worst kind of blind person is the one who refuses to see.
The next time you spot any aircraft carrying PL12 missiles, and it fires at you, simply roll and dodge.
You will not only see it happening, but you will also avoid the missile.
It makes no sense to prefer a missile that’s in a terrible situation where you can dodge it by rolling, over the AIM-120.
It’s the same as you preferring the AIM 7M over the R27ER1.
It simply doesn’t make sense for you to deliberately choose a bad missile.
I also hope that PL12 gets fixed, just like Derby/R-Darter.
No Fox3 missile should suffer from this problems.
I don’t think you got my meaning
I guess almost no one realises the PL-12 can be easily dodged because I get more kills per missile launched with PL-12 than AIM-120 variants… That is why I still prefer something that can be used in HOBS so I can setup traps against overconfident players.
I also prefer the derby over aim-120 despite the bugs and that the derby can sometimes be avoided using similar strategies because the missile autopilot doesn’t properly react to rolls or neg G turns.
Technically, the AIM-120 is more reliable, but in practice, I can’t use it to create the same traps I can with the PL-12.
If things change with how players react/defend, and I see better results with the AIM-120 than with the bug ridden derby or PL-12, I will change my mind. As of now, yes, I prefer the “bad” missile because it’s simply more effective at getting kills.
Comparison between PL-12 and AAM-4 off-bore pull after the nerf.
Test conditions were: same exact spawn in test drive, no change in flight path, accelerate till ±930kph wait till AI target is at 3.1km, and shoot. (when target was closer than that, both missiles would often miss).
As you can see, the PL-12 is slightly more agile in this specific launch condition.
This isn’t me saying the autopilot is bug-free, or that the PL-12 can sustain higher G turns, because that won’t be a limiting factor for the shoot simulated here, I doubt both missiles even reached 20G in this scenario since they didn’t achieve very high speeds, both missiles were pulling close to the max when turning upwards from a slowish launch speed.
The target only needs to fly straight and not roll for the PL12 to be effective.
My point is against people who were talking that the PL-12 couldn’t turn.
Btw I flew the J-10A and J-11B a bunch of times today, and the performance is still great, I’m yet to find someone outrolling the missile. I had an F-15 trying to, but the missile connected fine, probably he didn’t have enough speed.
It’s much more likely to have your PL-12 iron domed than rolled anyway. Derby/R-darter gives me issues more often.
