J-10C is at 14.3

The AIM‑120A has been continuously nerfed since it was first introduced, and even now, aircraft equipped with the AIM‑120 series find it very difficult to engage in close‑range combat.

They always get decent airframes, but their missiles are completely a mess.

C5 is only a boost, the A/B are boost + sustain.
The A/B boost is better than the C’s boost

The skeer might be the same, but the engine isn’t as powerful as the R77-1’s, it has more drag than the AIM120A/B/C, and it’s heavier than the AIM120.
The PL-12, AAM-4, and especially the Derby are missiles that lag far behind their competitors and deserve better versions.

The air frame is excellent, it’s just slow.

They all have better firing envelopes than the AIM-120, which is what makes a missile relevant, not any advantage in range which only worthwhile when shooting at idiots.

But the topic is completely straying from the real problem with the J10C, which is the engine and the abnormal drag of the aircraft’s fuselage.
The jet was supposed to receive the ws10b and about the drag… there’s nothing to even comment on.

For an aircraft the size of the J-10C, with its wing geometry, single engine, to have that kind of drag is unjustifiable.


It is significantly larger than all delta-wing fighter jets.

Since AIM-120C5’s are so overpowered, let’s give J-10A pilots the option.

  • Yes - Replace all J-10A missiles with AIM-120C5’s
  • No - Keep as is

Every good player in F15J(M) uses aim 120 instead of aam4.
not even in championships.
The only metric where the AAM4 is better than the AIM120 is that it handles curves better; otherwise, it’s worse.

I don’t know why you’re so fixated on this missile issue when the real debate and the problem with this thread is precisely the engine and drag of the J-10C. I don’t know why you’re creating this straw man issue about the missiles.
All the topics and discussions surrounding the J10C are about CAS (which has already been corrected), the motor, and drag.

maybe you should educate yourself and not make nonsense claims
the range is the same but it also turns much harder → somehow makes it worse
AMRAAMs are garbage, players drastically overvalue hitting 0.1s faster and 40km and drastically undervalue not having to fully turn your plane in to be able to fire a responding shot in a joust

Calling Aim-120Bs garbage is certainly a take. They’re worse than the PL-12s, but they’re still decent missiles overall. Don’t underestimate even a minor range advantage, because it can be useful even at “closer” ranges.

Anyways, this talk of missiles seems to derail the thread from the real issues the J-10C faces, which is abnormally high drag, and an artificially weaker engine because gaijin couldn’t be bothered to model a better one.
