So you’re telling me the missile will automatically track at 100 KM?
Not quite true, if the missile loses lock it will rely on datalink updates.
Oh my god you are clueless :(
TWS guides the missile through datalink updates :) The missile doesnt have kinetic 100km range though.
TWS doesn’t guide missiles unless it’s a solid lock… Unless you’re AESA
To be fair, it’s an insanely good missile, great acceleration on a gatewith narrowing IRCCM seeker is superb, much better than AIM-9M.
I think you need to learn how TWS actually work…
Yeah I know, it’s just 9Ms are better for close ranges, especially for dog fights.
Incorrect :)
False, TWS does provide datalink updates, although they are not as quick as hardlock datalink updates.
The difference is probably nothing if you’re in narrow scan with analog or using pesa/aesa
I think you overestimate the close range ability of AIM-9M, it is a 30G missile which patently does not turn off the rail. It performs well as a close range missile, but it won’t save you with crazy shots such as with magics or r-73. I haven’t played with PL-8 though so I can’t say for sure how bad they are at close range, but it’s certainly not a part of the kit worth complaining about.
Not really… I’ve prefer 9Ms in sim majority of the time. Yes it’s 30Gs but 40Gs for PL-8Bs + high acceleration doesn’t make it as great for close engagements. 9Ms doesn’t turn off the rail directly, but it feels a lot easier to lead than using PL-8Bs
What the fuck are we talking about chat.
Is this delusion?
I’ve had much better time using other FOX-3s than PL-12s. It’s literally a only close range FOX-3.
The only fox-3 I enjoy using more than PL-12s are MICAs
Besides R-77s and MICAs they are the only half decent close range fox-3s
And unlike those two it goes out decently far
I honestly have a better time with AIM-120 C-5s and R-77-1s. It’s a lot more consist than PL-12s for me.
On what jet? (Amraam)
Eurofighter, F-15E.
F-15, not a chance in hell, i’d take 6 PL-12s on an eagle over the 8 amraams post-nerf
Eurofighter does all the heavy lifting for the missile, not really fair to compare the PL-12 airframes, infinitely worse at close-medium ranges
