The first IS-2 model has an older hull armour layout and has access to BR-471B (205mm pen) as its best round.
The IS-2 model 1944 has better hull armour, a 12.7mm HMG, add-on armour, smoke grenades, and its best shell is BR-471D (230 pen).

oh shit i forgot it had a better shell. IS2 to 6.0 and 44 to 6.3 should be fine

is 2 at 5.7 is perfectly fair vs the Panther D/VK or ARL 1944/SA-50. Its only strong vs US/brits because they is the punching bag at that br range. In an upteir i would take it out, but in a downteir the is1 or T34-85 were better.
At 6.0 its still fair. Germany has the best lineup by FAR at 6.0 with a bunch of panthers, tigers, good TDs, planes and AA. Hellcats are literally everywhere since a bunch of nations get them and are a bitch to fight since they can punish any mistake with your 20+s reload. A bunch of small heatfs and darts start showing up and your armor went from good to meh.
6.3 is a joke.

yeah is2 is basicaly a slightly better isu152.
It just kinda has a turret and the reload is almost bearable. It retains the one shot tho

Most of 5.0s when it gets downtier wont be able to even pen it.

And that got answered,better shell,much better angles on armour and stronger aswell and 12.7mm on top with smokes.
the 1944 have better hull armor and a better shell and a extra 50cal on it which make it very useful againest light armor vehicle when you still reloading.
Soviet 6.7 is in the same predicament as USA at 12.0 lol I’d say don’t bother, just move up and play 8.3+ with as it got better with the T-55s. Tiger 2 and T34 just better everywhere.

the main issue of the is2 and the reason i dont think it should be 6.3 is the reload. When you fire you are at the mercy of the enemy. And unlike other heavy tanks you dont have enough armor to just forget about the enemies

I know that very well. And for that, I will never stop bitching about the way Gaijin decides to balance things not by actually comparing the characteristics of a vehicle, but by checking the WR.
Flat pen is incredibly important when you need to shoot flat turrets with high armor values, namely the US heavies, the Ferdinand/Elephant and the Ho-Ri.
122S is just different, HEAT warrants an actual pen to anything that comes near.
