Immutability of gamemodes

man id love to see stormy weather that’s actually stormy, rain and snowfall would be so pretty

Yeah, would be awesome. So much diversity could be added via the use of time and weather. You could increase the number of “maps” significantly. I’d also dream of half decent “physical effects” of said weather, but I think that is asking too much.

They could also add more weather effects like:

But Sim at night or in a proper thunder storm would just be cool as hell.

theres a mod on the WT live site that replaces the hangar with the rhine map that I used to use (until I had to reinstall WT after an update broke the game and every single one of my drivers) and has a stormy weather setting with rain and it works really well, it uses settings already in the game but they are not utilised in matches. it really would be cool

I loved that event, and I wish Gaijin would add it as an actual mode. It needed Polish(it had sl spawn costs, was limited to 5.7, and the team balance wasn’t the best), but it was an incredible change of pace from regular gameplay. Also they didn’t remove it because it lacked players, but rather that it was a limited time event.

I want gaijin to expand on the idea, and add it as an actual mode.

Wouldn’t be much of a sim mode then though.

Maybe just take the leap and learn the sim.controls.
It’s obviously worth it. With the poll in it’s current state it is the only mode with more approval than disapproval 37%-31%.

So by that metric it is the best gamemode, just try it.

1 this is a Discussion, not a suggestion, 2 the game depicts itself as Realistic, the term Realistic never implies that everything is realistic. By the most literal term.

It’s not a suggestion because I didn’t have anything to suggest. i might make some when I have more concrete ideas.

I just want muh ARBEC back. That’s all I ever wanted and honestly the thought that “someday they give us ARBEC” is the last reason I continue playing this game.

The 2 minute 16v16 ARB mayhem is possibly now my most hated and rage inducing mode in the entire game to the point I’d rather play naval than this.

CRB is good, possibly the best mode in WT right now, but it could be even better if Gaijin wanted.

WWM could have been a good mode if Gaijin allowed their devs to spend more time developing it.

As a player who’s been enjoying War Thunder since 2012, I completely understand your frustration. The game has indeed seen numerous updates adding a variety of vehicles and mechanics, but the game modes often feel neglected.

Gamemodes are crucial as they tie together all the elements of the game—vehicles, mechanics, and maps. Despite having beautifully modeled vehicles and realistic mechanics, the modes we play in often feel limiting and unfinished. It’s like having all the cool toys but not a proper sandbox to play in.

Take Counter-Strike’s defusal mode, for example. It’s been largely unchanged for over 20 years, yet it remains popular because it’s a well-designed mode. War Thunder’s modes, on the other hand, don’t seem to allow vehicles to be used to their fullest potential. They feel more like alpha versions meant for testing features rather than polished, engaging experiences.

Many players, including myself, have been vocal about this issue for years, but there hasn’t been significant change or even tests that got rolled back. The recent reduction in player numbers in ARB isn’t a real change to the gamemode itself.

It’s confusing and disappointing that gamemodes don’t receive more attention. They are the glue that holds everything together, and without improvements, the game can’t reach its full potential. War Thunder markets itself as “realistic,” but the modes don’t reflect that realism in gameplay, which is a missed opportunity.

I hope the developers start focusing more on enhancing the gamemodes to match the quality of the vehicles and mechanics. It would make the game much more enjoyable and fulfilling for long-time players like us.

It’s virtually impossible on controller. I I don’t want it to be SIM. I just want an in between sim and realistic. Like no names at all, no team highlighting, but with realistic controls so I don’t have to purchase a mouse and keyboard for the 100+ buttons you need for SIM.

RB EC when Gaijin. It’s basically what you are looking for.

I don’t think that would work tbh. Cockpit view screws with the instructor a lot.

Imagining thinking this would be an in between.

It’s just RB with EC as a mission design. No in between at all.

Mission design =/= gameplay

It would still remain the RB gameplay.

And i don’t think mission design is the reason why SB is the only gamemode considered somewhat good by this poll… The reason is gameplay.

Yeah I know, but what I’m saying is, take ARB, remove the name plates completely, no same nations on both side, all of the SIM missions and respawning on that large scale. lol. Thats how ARB should actually be.

Essentially, Arcade should be what ARB is but with respawning. ARB should be how sim is minus cockpit only and no name plates or same nations on both sides and SIM should be exactly how it is now. lol.

I kinda disagree, if RB and SB use the same missions then change demands from RB will affect SB… That’s not worth it. It’s also the reason why we do not have RB EC according to the EC mission designer a while back.

Hell no, this is way too slow and boring for arcade. Let AB be an action shooter. It’s quite good at it. Why ruin that?
Why do you even want change for a mode you don’t really play?
I know not everyone is fine with current AB but slowing it down doesn’t seem like the right solution.

So with full real controls? Nah, i would agree that RB is hopeless right now. But i also don’t see it as salvagable.
It can only be arcade+, to much realism would kill it.

Bigger maps and better missions are fine. But shared missions with sim only work with RB in a subservient role. And that was rejected. Sim used to have the RB missions and that didn’t work either.

A new mission design might be a good idea, but not the sim one.

Why do you have a say in that? You don’t play sim… Your voivlce shouldn’t matter in that regard. There is much arcade BS to fix in sim. It should definately not stay the same if we are talking about gamemode improvements…

It is if you modify it slightly. Take sim’s gameplay, add RB controls, 3rd person, friendly markers, and remove enemy markers. That would be a very nice gamemode, and a good change of pace compared to normal RB.

They do tie in together closely.

I am talking about mission design here. Should have been more clear on that.

1000% agree.

War Thunder’s game modes are like being given the keys to a Porsche GT3 RS and only being given a parking lot to drive it in.

The most frustrating part is that Gaijin has a solution at least for Air RB. They have Air RB EC in their back pockets but they just refuse to add it.

There’s also a lot of potential for a combined arms PVE mode. But instead we are given the underdeveloped Heli PVE and then the PATHETIC Air assault and Ground Assault modes.

Gaijin could actually reduce the number of modes in game by getting rid of all these PVE modes and replacing them with one properly developed PVE or even an EC mode.

The Assault modes are so hilariously horrific, i cannot believe they are still even an option in game at the moment. Aside from the free booster, idk why anyone bothers with this slop.

Gaijin really either needs to add new game modes or replace some current modes.

For me the fundamental issue is that in-game objectives not only don’t encourage teamwork, but actually pit teammates against each other (teammates are just enemies in blue, is the refrain I often hear.)

Take base bombing, for example. It’s par for the course that, say, F-84Fs are all racing against each other to wipe out a base b/c all it takes is one F-84F to do so. I’ve witnessed and been subjected to more team killing as result than I can recount.

Why not have base bombing require multiple runs to accomplish? Why not have that mechanic more critical to the overall winning of the match? This would give fighters more to do than fur ball to wrack up kills - they’d actually be incentivized to protect bases and serve as bomber escorts - of which they should be rewarded for remaining over a base zone or escort, as I’ve seen in other games. This would open up teamwork and strategizing within a match.

But my suspicion is that Gaijin’s maximal concern is quick queue times above all else, and this is what explains the rudimentary game dynamics. They want to keep it moving along b/c even fractionally longer queue times result in big player number losses.

A GRB example of this is how you lose rewards for having multiple friendlies on a cap, and you lose a large amount of reward if you don’t get to the cap first. You are punished for staying with your team, and punished for not being the first one there.

Dude Ou are literally saying:“take sims gameplay and then you talk about removing everything gameplay related and replace it by arcade gameplay”

After al those changes there is no sim gameplay left, only mission design

Can you state what part of the actual sim gameplay would even remain? And i mean gameplay not mission design, the way the game handles not where it takes place and what the tasks are. Gameplay.is the handling of a game nothing more…

They do not, the form the game experience together if you add sound design. But gameplay is how the game reacts to the players actions, mission design is the setting. They are not even close.
