IJN Shimikaze Squadron vehicle and it's unreasonable high BR

destroyers main weapons are… torpedoes, sometimes depth charges, but mostly torpedoes…

The Japanese did sink a lot of ships with their destroyers’ torpedoes

22 Allied ships were wholely or partly attributed to Long Lance hits, about 1 every 2 months.

What was equally significant though was the number disabled by hits but not lost. They proved more than capable of blowing off entire bows or sterns, or causing total destruction of machinery spaces. Basically with such a large warhead theres was little chance of suffering only ‘minor’ damage and a ship out of commission for months of repairs in wartime can be equally as valuable as a sinking.

Impressive!

Check out USS Selfridge for what even a non-fatal LL hit could do to a large DD. Everything forward of the bridge was destroyed and its a miracle of damage control she survived at all.

Keeping it on topic, this is why Shimakaze is at a higher BR than her hull and guns really deserve. LL torpedos will make a mess!

That’s really impressive, both the power of the LL and the capabilities of the damage control team!

This and the way those Japanese DDs look is why they’re my favourites.

I mean ask the mogami what happens when you combine long lances and japanese transports

If OP wants to play with ROF and powerfull guns would be much better to use any of the cruisers in the line, hell japan had Kako at 4.7 until the decompression, the lowest br Heavy cruiser in the game, used to eat hippers for breakfast

Yeah, the Japanese cruisers are really fun to play. Plus you get sea planes to cap points.

Yup. It’s that warhead and the range. Sometimes you even write your torpedos off as having missed, but they were on target the whole time and take down ships upwards of 10-15minutes of you having launched them. One from the other night:

Most likely. It probably has largest amount of torpedoes and best ropedoes at the same time.

I remember spawning this in Convoy mode and sneak along the edge of the map to get visual on tankers. Then I destryoed like 10 of them and drained almost all tickets of enemy team. (Closest thing to submarine we got lol!)

Reminder that the recently added Z51 destroyer is 4.7 and yet the tier 1 Z15 is at 4.0 despite having the exact same main gun firepower, vastly stronger AA, two extra torpedos, is slightly faster and has fuel tanks in the side of the hull to protect the engines.

Yet it’s abysmal compared to other 4.7 destroyers… Not even sure if it’s better than any of the 4.3 destroyers at all…

Yeah if you sail in a straight line and don’t try to evade like most of the playerbase.

Right cause you know what I’m doing in a naval game right? Mister Smart@ss.
Just a heads up you might play like that sailing in a straight line… Don’t project your own stupidity onto others.

So you do sail in a straight line when taking fire.

Found your problem.

No, you are just assuming that, cause you are here to troll and have nothing else to say.

It’s not trolling when Shima’s literally one of the best DDs in the game for soloing an entire team with next to no danger of being hit by return fire on more than half the maps.

Yes, the guns are kind of ass but that’s endemic of most IJN DDs barring the Akizuki.

There’s a genuine reason you see clowns spawning Shima, dumping 15 torps, Jing out and repeat in EC and even occasionally in battles.

There’s a reason you see the damn thing on most maps with an 18km away from opposing spawn to just dump torps.

From how seemingly mad you are over the straight line comment, I think it’s confirmed it’s a Skill Issue™.

This is how dumb this is… straight up J out the moment you run our of torps… that is a reasonable way to play with it… The skill issue is you… The most dumb thing to do is just spawn in a ship and right after it’s launched the torps you abandon it… what is wrong with you? Most toxic game play ever.
I’m not even mad at you… but you keep telling me this is a normal behavior… I don’t see how is this normal… wasting a spawn point just to spray and pray for a torp hit something in case it didn’t you exactly did ZERO to your team effort… how is this legit contributes to it’s current BR?
You can bring it in 8.7 with other ships… but you can’t bring it down to lower BRs… that is the reason this argument is all about… When you don’t have any High BR ship that would compliment this toxic play style… you end up in a ship that is sitting in 5.0 that is up BR-ed to at least 5.7 in most cases…
In this scenario you face no dreadnoughts but superior destroyers that literally shell you to the abyss and light and heavy cruisers that do the same…
In this case I don’t know what kind of 18km scenario are you talking about… these maps you tend to spawn 10-15km away from each other… even if you send torps these ships will avoid it unless it’s some really sluggish heavy cruiser.

If you did even a modicum of research, you’d know I don’t even own the Shimakaze. Nor do I plan to since I don’t like the class to begin with. But the similar thing happens with any other IJN DD, CL or CA: spam torps, acquire kills

I have been on the receiving end at all tiers against the damn thing, I know what I’ve seen and what I’m talking about. Its only weakness is when it’s down-tiered to a ‘coastal’/low tier map instead of up-tiered and even then, that’s still 15 ships it is almost guaranteed to kill in torps alone. 12.7cm HE, while not great on Shima, is still a threat against opposition. Worthless against anything bigger than a DD though, which is fine.

Chill with the ellipses, it’s not doing you any favors. I don’t like the J out thing either - it’s pretty cringe but 30 torps in the water in under 30 seconds is ridiculous firepower for one respawn. Or however many times someone wants to respawn by wasting as many credits as they feel like.

I feel like if a person Js out within a specified amount of time spawning in they should just be barred from using the thing for at least 10 minutes but that can cause a lot of issues, especially with warthunder’s duct tape and prayers that hold it together.
