As in the topic I’m kind of clueless why is this ship in the 5.0 BR means it will be in the 4.0-6.0 range(basically in the current state of the game you will be always in 5.0-6.0) Anyway my point is the ship is a disaster… have 3 turrets 2 guns in each and every gun is a 127mm cannon. This all sounds nice and all… but it have an abysmal ROF and the ammo is HE or HE-TF which it’s self wouldn’t be soo huge of a problem but it is cause the TNT is only 2.31kg which is already laughable in the 4.0-5.0 range… not to mention if you will face off not just light but heavy cruisers. I had a game where a Bravy basically two shot me with his missiles and another time when I respawned… I had no way to counter him as my ammo barely scratched him while he returned fire with pinpoint accuracy… so again let me ask why is this thing in 5.0? Cause of the torpedoes? I do like to see how many torpedo kills are in the game compared to normal conventional guns… This ship is probably even worse than a 4.3 ship… The turret rotation speed is just makes turn and dodge fighting impossible… The turning speed of the ship it self is like a heavy Cruiser… and we talk about a destroyer…
I recommend this ship and similar Japanese ships to be moved to 3.0-5.0 range… This ship is insanely dumb and useless in it’s current BR
Type 93 torpedo is basically how I’m grinding the naval event when I’m playing blue water. They are no joke. They work better when you get to Battleship BRs though, since people just sit there camping.
I can’t comment on Shimikaze because icbf joining a squadron, but I enjoy the Akizuki at 5.0, it’s HE only, but the 100mm guns are nice with a good reload. Use Shima to get to it asap, i guess.
It’s a huge pile of shit!
I have this and enjoy it but it’s not worth the ridiculous repair price.
Just the destroyer with the highest number of torpedos which conveniently are also the best torpedos in game. 93 km/h is way faster almost double the speed of most other torpedos while also holding around 2 to 3 times the explosive mass with 1 ton! of tnt equivalent compared to most other torps. and a 15 km range and it has 15 of them.
Easily the strongest destroyer that i know of that can deal with multiple battleships if they are not very careful aand one of the only ships that can turn around a naval ec match that is on the brink of being lost. One hit of those torps kills almost every ship in game. (sojuz and iowa might get extremely lucky and survive while being severely crippled)
And it conveniently is at the max br you are allowed to spawn in without sp cost in ec.
While being one of the fastest bluewater ships in game.
ok, the guns are not very good. so what? fire 15 torps at 6 to 10 different targets and j out? i killed 3 to 5 battleships first spawn in top tier naval per match relatively reliably in the giant circle maps with it. and i try to mainly target unattentive players.
Yes its not good at close range vs fast firing destroyers with sap or cruisers. thats not where it shines. it is extremely lethal to any slow and distracted battleship in a 10 km radius around it while also having the speed to run and dodge stuff that try to kill it.
it absolutely is not
AFAIK the torps are not as useful in RB (which is this forum!!) as they are in AB with free reloads, so perhaps there’s an issue there.
Certainly in AB it’s BR is not too high!
I’ll give it a try in AB- I’ve got one shot kills on magazine detonations in AB but never once in RB. Though it happens to me now and again.
Also has a frickton of secondaries, so against coastal boats you’re basically immune (got to toggle to them and fire them yourself though). That plus speed helps a lot. Got two Terrors of the Sea in it in RB last night. You’ve got to play it different, it’s at best average for its BR overall now in RB, but it can still get some work done.
I often use it in my lineup with Yamashiro. Can usualle survive at least 75% of the entire battle lobbing long lances at the enemy spawn and sinking countless battleships.
You are fast and nimble enough to evade most enemy shells
Edit: Shimakaze is my favourite DD in the game
it even gets better at higher brs because then maybe people wouldnt constantly try and target fast and nimble cruisers with tons of secondaries with it but slow and unmaneuverable dreadnoughts that are like dead fish in the water to its main armament. The long lances
If youre spamming he from its main guns at targets it does nothing to only to grab too much attention and get them annoyed and shoot you for no reason youre doing it wrong. play it at higher br, 6.0 to 7.7 sail straight towards the enemies like a bot for as long as you can and launch all torps at different targets, preferably ofc targets that are going in a straight line without maneuvering and that are distraced or at positions where enemies tend to clump up to camp behind cover. J out and reap the results 3-5 min later. Pling Battleship sunk, pling dreadnought exploded. All you need to do is not spam its useless he at everything and get them annoyed or alerted. I know i know some tikkers and some tokkers might find that difficult but, idk how to better explain it. Go under the radar dont grab attention until youre so close that you can deal catastrophic damage to multiple enemies in a very short time span at ranges where they have very little time to maneuver and realize what is going to happen to half their fleet if they just continue beelining.
I love to just send it straight across one of the giant circle maps towards the enemies like a bot at BRs higher than 7.0 and through some magic i dont yet quite understand they cant fathom a ship this small that is not spamming guns like a lunatic is a player that 3 minutes later will have sent 15 one hit one kill torps at 10 different battleships. Most players seemingly dont even get it when a j’ed out shimakaze appears in the killfeed. works way too often and most of the times the bots are doing better at dodging than players, thats why i sent it towards players that play like bots.
in my opinion it would be even better at higher brs since then it would face less cruisers or destroyers which are not its main target (or no target at all since the main guns wont kill anything and you dont want to fire your torps that are set to 4 m running depth at destroyers or coastals that are too small and nimble to get hit in the first place) and a lot of them are way more dangerous to it than some clumsy dreadnought but more stuff it can and does actually deal way more damage to. That might actually be the real confusion here. Its no destroyer to play at 5.0 and fight other destroyers (especially the american ones with anti fragmentation armor) with. For me it seems clear it is meant to be played at much higher br and especially at ec in a lineup even with 8.7 ships. Its the most capable destroyer to fight against battleships in the game
The torps are awesome in rb. one hit one kill to everything but maybe and only maybe a iowa, yamato or sojuz (but they need to get lucky) everything else is dead if hit in the main compartments by only one of the 15 torps you can fire. Well, unless you insist on using them with 1 m running depth to make sure to send them into the main armor belt and the torpedo belts. (okay then you can also use them vs coastals and stuff with little draft but why would you want to do that when one of them can sink a sojuz?)
They are similarly lethal in AB, and you can guarantee to receive a lot of attention if you spawn in any Japanese ship carrying any of the LL’s!!
Notable of course is the range difference between the Mk 2 and Mk 3 - with the earlier one being 20km as against 15km, and useful for killing carriers even in the big circle maps
oh interesting didnt know theres different mods of the type 93. just checked in game and yeah the mod 2 has 20 km range which is cool. But it also has “only” 620 kg of tnt equivalent (i bet still way more than any competition). The mod 3 has 1000kg. Kinda insane thinking about it. Just tested in test"fly" well yeah 76 kph max speed could be considered flying but those chonkers deliver one ton of tnt equivalent at almost 100 kph to stuff thats 15 kilometers away!
It literally blacks out 4 hull sections immediately to every ship even if hit midships into the engine compartment. Your only chance surviving those would probably be trying to take it head on, praying for that your magazine is far away enough from the massive boom to not explode anyways and hope that you can seal and pump quick enough. a hit to any other part of the ship and youre basically instantly gone
Yeah - I usually take 2 DD’s in a lineup of BB’s - 1 with each mark in case of different ranges.
And then I can bring the other one as a replacement…
The only reason why Shimikaze has same as other 6 guns DD is due to it has 6 guns, you can see whatever kinds of DD if it has 6 guns, it will be 5.0
Except they are. Type93 nets me kills every round. Most the ships that carry Type93 don’t need reloads because they have enough to begin with (mainly cruisers like Tone/Mikuma). Not sure how many Shima gets, but it only takes one torpedo to end someone.
yeah completely useless.
Grinded this event with mate, who was on japan line.
1st spawn Shimakaze, spam torpedos on enemy spawns direction and where those boats are going.
J out, take real ship, and enjoy after 4-7mins when torpedoes start connecting. Made 2-7 kills on round only in shimakaze , such an easy score on event
damn. that sure sounds like a very bad ship. only 2-7 kills without putting itself in any real danger. bottom of the bracket
I dont think it does have the most number wise anymore, i believe bagley has 16 though i could be wrong
