If you could, how would you re-balance CAS in Ground Battles?

First of all you have no ownership right over this topic, who are you?

Second of all your only argument was “grind a whole tree in modes that most people don’t even enjoy playing and only do it cause they have to”

They nerfed air sim rewards recently significantly.

3.0 to 2.3 multiplier.

Not everyone flies a bomber. I consider it a good lobby to get like 4-5000 score flying my F4U-4 or P-51 against a competent enemy team over a 3 hour game. I’m also having fun. Most likely I won’t be getting 10-12 kills, more likely 4-5 so a score of 2500-3000 is much more realistic.

That’s going to be less than half the daily 22K score requirement.

They want to say that you need invested time, BUT OF COURSE YOU DO. Do you really think a CAS player didn’t have to grind both sides, air and ground, to do what they do? They didn’t have to learn to defend themselves in various situations? They didn’t have to learn positioning on maps to acquire the necessary points? Man, what I have the most is time invested in this game don’t come at me with excuses that you can’t invest your time researching two tech trees.

Sorry jaded, it’s not for u.

I am capable of playing planes. I don’t want to. How hard is that to understand? What’s wrong with GF only? I don’t want to play vehicles and modes I don’t enjoy just to stay competitive.

Seems many here share my sentiments

You, simply by virtue of obtaining what you have - are not the average player.

The average player (statistically) is F2P. The average player doesn’t play the game anywhere near as much as you, I, or as most of us on the forums. The average player does not have premiums to accelerate their grind, the average player does not have a premium account. It takes the average player months / years to reach the end of a single tree.

You can say to this something like ‘Well he can grind events and sell market items to get premiums’, but the average player doesn’t have several hours per day over a 1-2 week period to spend laboriously grinding pixel vehicles in games in the manner you or i would be willing to do. I’d bet most casual players aren’t even aware of this feature at all because they don’t interact with the game outside of the client.

It is wrong to gatekeep the solution to CAS in a manner that is inaccessible to a large portion of the games audience. Most people don’t sink hundreds / thousands of hours into a game - and that’s how long it takes to unlock whole nations in WT. CAS players don’t just deserve an ‘i win button’ because they sunk way more time into the game than someone else. That’s not very fair.

You ground air to play air.

I grind my american tech tree to fly cool american carrier based aircraft. I have rank 6 american planes

I grind tanks to play tanks.

I ground my british ground to play look looking early cold war tanks like centurions.
I ground my german ground to get tigers and panthers.

I ground soviet ground and air for easy mode ground rb battlepass challenges and tasks (KV-1 zis-5 is a bit broken in downtiers, yak-9 speaks for itself.) Also t-34s look cool.

Air-wise, grinding british air for me is a waste as american air is bluefor, british air is bluefor - so I’ll be on the same side of the matchmaker in both cases and the reason I want a second air tree is ability to join the lower pop side. Grinding german and russian air is handy as they’re redfor, but neither tree has cool carrier based aircraft (russia gets 2 vtols at top tier.) Japan air interests me (ww2 is almost all naval!), but japan tanks don’t.

And I also want my RP gains to go towards a tank, not a plane. A good tiger game is ~5K RP surviving 20 minutes, getting 10 kills and the like. I spawn a plane to counter the corsair spam and I get 0 RP towards tiger IIs.

Ground RB air combat is the worst of ARB and sim too: It’s small, it’s cramped, it’s claustrophobic full of third partying and planes phasing into reality… and it has horrible rewards. If I want rewards, I got ARB. If I want fun, I got ASB.

Edit:

Clarifying on cramped & claustrophobic:

You see enemy plane. You dive on them until they’re within reasonable gun range. They’re diving away and maintaining speed. Your difference is about 100 km/h with advantage due to cutting off their flight path.

2-3 kilometres later: you’re over their airfield and got turned yellow with an oil leak by their airfield AAA.

Inverse is true: you extend away after making a gunpass and… your enemy cannot aggress you back as you’re right back over your AAA while trying to create a 2-3 km distance to re-engage.

Hit the nail on the head.

I will fly my Seafury when I feel like flying it, not cause I’m forced to deal with some AmeriCAS zomber dropping a 2000lb bomb on my tank.

Which is quite frankly a gameplay element nobody asked for. It’s simply a consequence of poor game design.

And do you think it’s fair to blind, incapacitate, increase, or even eliminate CAS from matches? And what kind of player can’t grind an event for 45,000 points a day at tier 3? For the love of God, what generation is this that wants an excuse for everything? “If I don’t win the match because I only have a tank and was unable to research a jet, I need to come to the forum to screw over the other player who did both tech trees just so I can be happy.”

Want to be happy? Play PvE tank matches; you can still earn a 300% boost in them. The rewards in PP aren’t great, but in 8 years, you can reach tier 2 just playing in that mode.

It’s not possible to be F2P when Gaijin itself has made events easier. You have one month to complete an event, one month of pause for the next, two days to earn 65,000 points, and three weeks and three days to reach 750,000 points. In each match, you earn at least 2,400 to 1,800 points in ground battles and 5,000 to 3,200 in simulation, both with a 1.8X multiplier plus the vehicle’s BR multiplier. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES for being F2P; there’s no way to avoid having premium vehicles. MOST of the premium vehicles shown in my screenshot were acquired through EVENTS.

I don’t have time; if one mode gives me more points, I’m going to use that mode. If one mode helps me research faster, I’ll use that mode. So, there are no excuses for you to reach the top tier in both modes of the game. This is nothing but excuses made to please people who are incapable of putting in the basic effort to acquire and achieve what they need.

Evidently, you have more than enough time, approximately 44 hours of battles over the past 7 days assuming each one lasts 15 minutes. I’m sure this is not even the maximum you would put if there was an event.

This is simply contradictory. I’m surprised you have any time to eat.

It doesn’t matter; this has simply turned into a 5v1 argument. It makes no sense to try to explain things. If you’re comfortable thinking this way, then be happy. Nothing they do or introduce to the game that increases my CAS points or any other form (other than removing CAS from matches) will affect my performance in helping my team. If you want a comfort zone, I recommend you go play BF4 or BF 2042 and be happy there.

It’s unfortunate; you don’t read anything. I keep the game open, and sometimes I let my brother play while I run errands around the city. For God’s sake, who spends 44 hours playing a game? How bad does someone have to be to need 44 hours to grind one star of 65,000 points?

It doesn’t matter; think what you want. I’m leaving because I don’t see a point of balance for both sides.

I don’t have access to the time you had the game open. All I have access to is your battle count. It’s a very simple calculation and I don’t know how long the battles were or how many somebody else played.

Going back to the title of this thread, what I would like to do to re-balance CAS (Specifically at the top end) :

  • Close the SPAA quality gap between Pantsir and the other 9 nations. Even if that means adding things better than Pantsir for everyone else, and in turn giving Russia an equivalent to those.

  • As the above would likely swing the balance from CAS dominance in the dynamic to SPAA dominance, Introduce SEAD capabilities, and, potentially consider reducing CAS spawn costs to better reflect reduced battle impact.

  • Reduce CAP (Purely A2A loadout) spawn costs.

  • Introduce small rewards for SPAA’s intercepting AGM / GBU’s etc to incentivize this form of team protection.

  • Potentially consider giving players a ‘generic fighter’ of the rank they can spawn as a CAP option, similar to how everyone is given a strike drone as a CAS option.

  • Potentially consider a runway spawn for all aircraft with the aim of making revenge CAS information obsolete (If they are still camping in the same place by then… well… they probably had it coming lol).

“What kind of player cannot play for 4 hours each day where if they miss out on 4 days, they lose complete eglibibility?”

Let’s look at my schedule last spring:

Wake up at 04:30
Board the train at 06:15
Reach terminus at 07:00
Board tram at 07:05
Disembark at 07:35
Drop things off at office, change into appropriate clothes and stand in front of lab doors: 07:55
Hopefully finish by 17:00 (may take longer, chemistry has a will of its own)
Hopefully catch the tram so that I can board the 18:00 train
Disembark at home at 18:55
Walk home and enter my house at 19:30ish.

Where in this schedule could I play 4 hours each day?
Sure, this only happens if I’m doing in-person work rather than processing data WFH but I don’t pick when I got lab time. The instruments do.

I get lab time during the event and spend 4 days doing the above schedule. Not even 2 hours per day becomes doable.
Miss 4 days.No event for me.

And in sim playing a fighter with guns fighting other players who pose a fair threat, about 3000-6000 score for 90-180 minutes of gameplay.

I mean, it’s a very simple and effective solution. It doesn’t even have to be the best of the best. Just good enough.

The rest of the ideas are good except this one I would point out that some aircraft struggle to even get off the ground and to get any sort of altitude on a normal air map… with the relatively short distances from airfield to battleground in GRB, this would negate many aircraft in some areas (looking at 7.0 to about 7.7 with a full CAS loadout… and 6.3 with the AH-1 with a full load, thing is a bus). Gaijin really needs to make the ground maps FULL size maps to give aircraft a flight time before getting to the battlefield. The GF battle area will stay the same size, but the map itself (which many are large ARB / EC maps anyway… use it) would be larger and facilitate the airfields used in ARB battles with those distances involved. That will prevent Pantsir (which was a mistake to have been added without counterparts… and an outright slap that there still is no way for other nations to even compete with it let alone counter with SEAD at this point) from being able to insta-delete anything that spawns.

Warthunder’s quite odd in that you need to be employed to afford all the premium features you need, but need to be unemployed to afford all the time grinding you need lmao.

Also gotta be employed in the right job and live in a western country, because despite gaijin being headquartered in Hungary, you’re not gonna afford their stuff with a graduate student’s income living in Hungary.
