No, they definetly are just QoLs. Maybe against something like a T-72 they’re a more meaningful advantage, however T-80 already has pretty decent reverse and gun depression.
Also that’s literally the point of the QoL section, for advantages that don’t matter in 99% of 1 on 1 engagements.

The T-80 goes a whopping 10kph in reverse (one of the lowest at the BR still) while the m1 goes 30kph+
Without enough gun depression you won’t even be able to engage people from certain spots. Reverse speed is also amazing thing to have to fall back after shooting or when damaged. All of this is much more important than 12.7 MG performance.
Cramped vehicles will get killed easier, simple as.

Having really strong turret armor and fast reverse speed is the best combo you can have for hull down spots. T-tanks lack in both areas.
