I also think actually attracting tankers to this mode would be a big hurdle.

Like, it’s no secret a ‘tank only’ mode is one of the most hotly demanded game modes. A large portion of the ground playerbase is exasperated by CAS, and they find being told to play SPAA quite annoying when, they’re ultimately in that game mode chiefly to play tanks.

I think trying to sell those players a new mode, where now they don’t only have to worry about CAS, but also shore bombardment from ships… that’s gonna be tough. If we’re gonna be telling them to just spawn an AA if they don’t wanna get domed by CAS, and simultaneously telling them to just spawn a battleship if they don’t wanna get bombarded… they’re going to quickly turn around and ask when it is they actually get to play their tanks lol.

And if the ships end facing higher BR planes with CCIP/guided bombs they will very quickly become food for any plane.

I don’t think it’ll be very fun to play a tank in that mode, especially when you will have to content with ships lobbing 10+ 152mm+ HE rounds every 15 seconds.

it would pen just not fuse, pass through the ammo and just turn a few charges black and probably disable the autoloader. Then proceed to get ammoracked bu a apfsds and die immediately

Been wanting something like it in Sim control mode for a long time.

I don’t think battleships has any hope. But coastal might have a chance. Maybe ships used in riverflotillas? But these would need special maps where at least a few ground objectives are located in the ships reach.

I’ll tell you why…
Because it will be a balance nightmare.
WW2 only BRs ships will be too strong. Way too strong.
Modern era with missiles etc. You’ll have ships and planes countering eachother and people with ground vehicles in the middle ^trying^ to at least move…essensially everyone will make them free points.

Often those who commonly demand that mode, exagerate their numbers very easily, by leading players to genuinely think there’s absolutely no option, or point, in trying.

And that leads to the problem being worse.

Oh, i actually know this from custom games. The battleships had a hard time hitting teh Tanks. They where just so small, yet so taff, you had to directly hit them and even that wasn´t a garantied kill. Just for comparisen, IJN Kongo´s pure HE Shell has 31 kg of TNT. the 500 lb bomb of a B-17 has 162.81 kg of TNT.
And the AP rounds could even be tanked by high BR tanks. I had Abrams M1A1, T-80BVM and Leopard 2A6 go “Nah, i win” and take them shots to the cheek like a kiss.

In return, the moment i got close enough to garantiely hit them, they could hit and pen my turrets and other vital parts of my ship. the High BR Tanks even shot into my ammo and killed me.

It wasn´t by far as one sided as you think.

Aye, really depends how you balance it BR wise.

Played ships in customs too and you’re right, against a lot of things, especially heavy / modern things, you really do need a direct hit.

But if these WW2 ships are going to be facing off against WW2 tanks, and you’ve got common open top things like Hellcat’s and Wirblewinds etc down range, it’s gonna be more of an issue.

Sadly, you can´t select ships vs tanks in the Protection Analysis. But, the Kongo is 7.0. 6.0 to 7.0 is dominated by the heaviest tanks and 7.0 to 8.0 is dominated by HEAT-FS and Anti-Tank missel with far more penetration then the Kongo has armor on its thickest parts. Combine that with a minimum reload time of 30 seconds (what can easily double when damaged) i think a coast visite towards the enemy tank spawn can easily become a “death by a thousand cuts” scenario for that Kongo.

All of the above points given by others + probably would obliterate the servers on high tier considering it struggles with late BB AA

Considering we’re about to get the Richelieu with over 100 AA guns, I wouldn’t be surprised if the servers and the surrounding area turned out like this within the span of a week.

Hopefully they can implement it but in a way that won’t cremate the surrounding area near the server room

100 Vs 100 Combined arms battles if Maps such as Denmark,Norway (Air and naval) Or even add Gargo port as a Ground map in Denmark and norway and if you win the battle for it becomes a Naval spawn point and maybe Team spawns are limited to Production capacity which changes via controled points

Honestly a mode like that would be great.

Also a mode like this I would absolutely kill for:

A good PvE mode that isn’t just waves of AI spawning with actual rewards would be amazing. Would be nice to have a good PvE mode as a break from the other gamemodes. Would also be great for a lot of different aircraft that suffer in PvP. And it would also pull away the players that only PvE in modes like Air Sim where they harass other players for killing them and demand PvE in the session.

But modes like these would be great for allowing new types of vehicles to the game like strategic bombers, more multi-sam systems like Patriot, and stuff like indirect artillery. All of which could work well if given the proper gamemode.

I’m curious as in regards to how likely will a ship be able to directly engage with a tank. I could see ships being able to bombard areas, similarly to artillery. But if the map is structured properly, you wouldn’t see tanks driving on a beach to then get line-drived by a gun. At that point, ships would need a mode or camera that allows for indirect fire separate from the look at amd shoot directly there mode. And the counter is naturally baked in through situational awareness.

Tunnel vision yourself into barraging a point and you leave yourself open to other ships and aircraft. I think it possible but of course there are BR balancing problems.

In general i would say scouting would be used. But, yea, in simulator you would need to spot them with your own eyes. Paying attention to map pings would be usefull and you could give ships teh same “Pay attention there” point as planes.

200 player lobbies sound awesome, although I’d worry to work as a server technician for gajin

Tanks don’t interact with ships or planes. Essentially making playing actual tanks useless when you just get bombed or shot from offshore guns. Planes already make a mockery of most AA. Why would any ground player EVER play this mode? They are just the cannon fodder.

This isn’t even getting into engine limitations and LOD problems.

It would be great to see this and many of us have been asking for something like this for years to no avail.

Balance would definitely be a bit tough but i think ultimately Gaijin has claimed it’s a server issue. - this sounds like a bit of a cheap excuse. I mean they use this excuse for adding larger air maps too.

They may just be unwilling to invest time and money into this when they feel it won’t add players to the game.

Itd be cool to see but dont hold your breath. Air RB EC has been begged for by a huge portion of the playerbase for years and they’re still reluctant to release it so an even larger mode would probably be just way too much work for them.

Maybe we’ll see this kind of huge change years down the road or if the playerbase starts to fall off.
