I am close to unlocking those planes and i wonder should i got for the JAS39A or JA37DI im new to high tier air im not experienced at those iogs tws or smt idk what they do or how they work and i dont know which plane is better for me give me honest opinions on which is better or easier to play if you could i would appreciate if you explained everything to me thanks! (if u want i can go on dc and u can explain everything to me there)
tl;dr one gets better missiles, one gets better everything.
JA37Di is legacy airframe propped up to higher BR by AMRAAMs, which are fire and forget (for the most part at least). Compared to JAS39A you will be able to fight better at range at cost of having worse situational awarness, worse defensive capabilites and being basically at mercy of the oponent if you get into VWR.
Gripen has much better everything bar its radar missiles, swedish skyflashes are SARH (meaning you have to keep the target locked with your radar for the entiriety of the missile flight time) so its range capabilites are effectively nonexistent. But if you catch up to someone in VWR, you pose a massive threat to them.
so which should i choose which is better for begginers?
hmmm. both or neither lol.
really depends.
you know how to notch properly?
Like i said im a begginer i know something notch or multipath notch is turning sideways to the missle and spamming chaffs or flares. idk what tws or the other thing on the radar says i know they are diff but idk what is diff from them. ive never notched ive never played beyond 12.0 for now i want to get into higher br air so i can cas but to spade those planes i need experience
i can always go with something else like the f16a but the f18 14.0 is too big of a jump for me
hmmm.
Ill actually suggest you to unlock JA37D first (not Di) and play that. Jumping from 11.3 straight to 13.0 would be less than pleasant for you.
JA37D can see early ARHs (Phoenixes on early tomcats) and in full uptier also AMRAAMs, also R-27ERs so you can get hang of how to play against them. Once you do that, id go for Gripen to learn how IRCCM missiles work and how to work with advanced radar and RWR, THEN go for JA37Di and learn how to work with AMRAAMs.
From there, either JAS39C or Hornets.
JA37DI should perform a little better in comparison to the JAS39A since it has proper active-radar homing missiles and the JAS39A isn’t capable to use its BOL countermeasure launchers alongside RB71 which may be a issue for you if you still don’t know how to manage the amount of countermeasures. I don’t know if this still accurate but this guide on radar screen should still be useful:
If you want a multi-role aircraft go full on JAS39A which has better close air support capabilities, if you want a purely fighter go for JA37DI, although JAS39A will be able to fill that role since it has better avionics, still an option. JAS39D should be a nice starting point if you have time to research it in a squadron and test the JAS39 airframe which the JAS39A and JAS39D should perform almost the same except you don’t have a cannon.
It is, just need to add the recently™ added filters to it when I get a chance
So much info dam il try reading it all
im 20k rp from unlocking the ja37d and idk for which to go first thats why i ask
thanks for helping me
ye, JA37D sounds like a proper choice rather than jumping immidiately to 13.0
They have equal pros and cons
Viggen DI you would get faster due to being foldered under the D, and gets ARH. So is capable at competing in BVR combat, especially in a downtier, But has a weak RWR and FM for the BR.
The Gripen A is overall a lot stronger, but essentially limited to WVR only combat, at a BR where you will be facing a lot of aircraft that are strong in BVR combat. So it requires the right tactics to force things into the merge.
If you do go for the Gripen A first, I would say go for the Gripen C before the Viggen DI, its relatively speaking a lot stronger.
I will go for the Gripen i think JA37DI with the fire and forget missiles seems sweet but i love the look of gripen but i heard that the IR misslies are buggy and unreliable is that true? also how does the IRCM works
i also have another question how does the JA37D perform? from experience with the ja37c the sarh are guarranted kills but idk if they are still that op on 12.0 @Beeschurger @Morvran @Константинович7
Skyflash DFs are pretty weak at 12.0, but the decent radar does compensate for that a bit.
But 12.0 is a compressed to hell BR, and the Viggen D will struggle in uptiers vs aircraft with SARH with double the range, all whilst on platforms with better performance in every respect. Like fro example the F-18As only 0.3 BR higher Or even the Tornado ADVs at 12.0.
The Viggen D (and DI) have quite a weak RWR as well, so knowing when you have a threat coming at you can also be quite tricky. At 12.0, you will always be facing SARH and usually ARH threats.
The Viggen C stands out as a very decent 11.3 because its the only supersonic aircraft with PD radar at 11.3, the others like the Hawk are quite slow subsonics. Most aircraft with PD radar arent available until 12.0
If we ever see a half decent decompression, then the Viggen D will probably be fairly decent again, but at the moment its falling behind a bit at 12.0.
Other strengths, such as Aim-9Ls and BOL are upgrades over the Viggen C, but have their own respective issues (BOL is nerfed to hell and Aim-9Ls are one flare defeat, both are totally ahistorical issues)
What about the F16A at 12.3? (also if u say those things such like bol and pd please explain what they mean)
F-16A I think is kinda similar. Its okay, but would benefit a lot from decompression
Very decent FM, but the 9Ls are easily defeated, meaning you are basically always gunfighting. Great if you can get the enemy into a position, but pretty weak if they keep you at bay.
BOL are countermeasure pods the Viggen D (and others) can equip. Each pod contains 160 CMs and the Viggen can take 2 (Gripens can take 4). This is in addition to the Large Calibre CMs the Viggen C/D carry.
But the BOL CMs are very weak relatively speaking, but they shouldnt be, in fact they should be very strong. They were artificially nerfed about 2 years ago, and never fixed.
You can read more about BOL here on Flame’s post
PD or Pulse Doppler, is a radar mode that allows you to see aircraft flying low to the ground. In something like the F-4E, the radar is incapable of locking onto anything flying below about 1000-1500 ft due to ground clutter.
PD works by detecting the relative velocity of the vehicle, and so requires the target to be flying at you in most instances, some radars (Im not sure if that includes Viggens) can also detect aircraft moving away from the radar as well. You can defeat PD radar by turning 90°, so you are flying perpindicular to the radar, which effectively drops your relative velocity to 0 and so you can no longer be detected by the PD radar. This is what notching is.
The Wiki has a half decent breakdown of what the different radar modes as well
i think i will stay in the ja37c its too op for its br haha. i will go for the ja37d atleast it get a lot more flares and chaff
thanks morvran u helped me a lot i really appreciate it!
