Hypothetical Iranian Air TT

So Iranian Air start like Israeli Tech tree from Rank 4
To be honestly

There a lot Copy paste vehicle, but atleast few Jet there was Unique.
I remember if Iranian could Modified & reverse engineering some US aircraft that look so unique
So far as i know they successful made F-5 their own made

I know this was back in August but I was wondering if you have linked your sources for it being able to carry 6? If so, I’ll submit a bug report if one hasn’t been created already.

Are there any sources about the armament composition of the modernized Su-22? I’ve seen exhibitions, but I’m interested in the full list and sources on it

if we have Israel why not have Iran, +1

Given the mess that Iran is politically (historical close relations with the UK, USA and Israel and more recent relationships with Russia, China etc) its hardware should be split across nations with skins available for said nations.

Iran has used some very interesting interwar aircraft that are currently not in game such as the Hawker Hind (Mercury Engine) and Audax. You could even throw in the Tiger Moth, UK’s PO.2!!!

As far as i know both are basic unarmed trainers so they unfortunately cannot be added

The Shafaq and the Borhan are both mockups with the former confirmed to have at least a functioning prototype planned but currently is stuck in development hell, with Iran’s current air doctrine preferring UAV’s not helping matters. Despite that we do have more than enough data to model at the Shafaq as well as their planned armaments for both

Do we have any info on whether the engines on the reverse engineered F-5s were upgrade? An F-5 with more thrust would be nice :D

Still waiting for my blue Saeqeh-2. Virtually every other version of the F-5 is in game bar the very best and most interesting looking one!

“Before 1979, Iran hosted secret joint operations with allies like the US and UKtesting advanced weapons on Iranian soil. One RAF Avro Vulcan crash exposed the covert missions. After the revolution, hidden bases used to spy on the Soviets were uncovered.

Rumors suggest B-1 Lancer bombers may have flown to Iran during development, though no purchase interest was confirmed (yet!).

As we’ve revealed in the past, Iran planned to acquire hundreds of F-16s and F-15s in the '80s, alongside a second batch of Tomcats. Could the B-1 have been on the lIAF wishlist too?

Some B-1A prototypes (like serial 76-0174) were desert-camouflaged for arid testing—before the program was canceled in 1977.”

Do you have any sources for further reading?

Iranian Yak-130’s are combat capable. Including the ability to carry AAM’s such as in the image below showing an Iranian Yak-130 with an R-73E. The Iranian Yak-130’s can carry the typical Air to Ground Ordinances as the regular 130

Also considering adding the P-3F to the TT since it is a unique variant of the Orion made for Iranian specifications

Just wanted to share a few thoughts on potential Iranian tech tree Subtrees, in case they’re helpful. (≧▽≦)ゞ

The Main Anti-Western Power in the Middle East: Subtree Candidates for the Iranian Tech Tree – A Way to Introduce Middle Eastern Technicals (DIY Vehicles)

⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Why Do We Need Iran and Its Subtrees?

War Thunder is a realism-oriented game that is fundamentally structured around distinct national factions.
However, at the current stage of the game, there is a serious lack of factions capable of balancing the Western bloc. At present, Russia and China are essentially the only nations that can be considered non-Western major powers. As a result, battles have become highly homogenized, frequently devolving into internal Western-versus-Western conflicts, which significantly reduces gameplay variety and long-term interest.

As the game’s timeline continues to advance, moving steadily toward modern warfare and with Infantry gameplay expected to be introduced in the future, Iran and its associated subtrees clearly represent one of the most suitable options:

  1. Iran belongs to the anti-Western camp.

  2. Iran is a principal adversary of Israel.

  3. War Thunder currently lacks sufficient representation of vehicles from the Middle East. The inclusion of Iranian subtrees would allow for the integration of a substantial portion of Middle Eastern vehicles. In particular, due to decades of prolonged conflict, many armed groups in the region operate highly distinctive, improvised wartime-modified vehicles (DIY or “technicals”). These vehicles do not fit well into any existing tech tree in War Thunder, and the Iranian tech tree would provide the most appropriate home for them.

⠀⠀

As Israel’s primary regional competitor, Iran is also a significant military-industrial power. Some dedicated players have already outlined comprehensive blueprints for a potential Iranian tech tree suitable for inclusion in War Thunder. Therefore, today I would like to propose several countries and factions that could reasonably be introduced as subtrees under the Iranian tech tree:

  1. Syria – Assad Regime 🇸🇾

  2. Lebanon – *Lebanese armed group 🇱🇧

  3. Yemen – *Yemeni armed group 🇾🇪

  4. Palestine – *Palestinian armed group 🇵🇸

  5. Iraq – Popular Mobilization Forces 🇮🇶

  6. Geopolitical Relations – Afghanistan 🇦🇫

  7. Geopolitical Relations – Qatar 🇶🇦

  8. Geopolitical Relations – *removed 🏴‍☠️

  9. Geopolitical Relations – *removed 🏴‍☠️

⠀⠀
(Although the *removed 🏴‍☠️ is hostile toward Iran, this does not necessarily prevent it from being included as part of the Iranian tech tree—much like the relationship between Taiwan and China within the game. Moreover, it is not impossible that the Islamic Republic of Iran could, in the future, fragment into multiple localized factional entities, creating opportunities for other forces, such as the *removed 🏴‍☠️, to expand their influence.)

⠀⠀

  1. Geopolitical Relations – Somalia – *removed 🇸🇴

  2. Geopolitical Relations – Somali Pirates 🏴‍☠️

  3. Overseas Cooperation – Sudan 🇸🇩

  4. Overseas Cooperation – Tajikistan 🇹🇯

  5. Overseas Cooperation – Libya – Gaddafi Regime 🇱🇾

  6. Overseas Cooperation – Pakistan 🇵🇰

  7. Overseas Cooperation – Venezuela 🇻🇪

  8. Overseas Cooperation – Cuba 🇨🇺

  9. Overseas Cooperation – North Korea 🇰🇵

⠀⠀
(Just as Canadian vehicles can appear in both the U.S. and British tech trees, Pakistan and North Korea could simultaneously exist within both the Chinese and Iranian tech trees; similarly, Cuba and Venezuela could be shared between the Soviet and Iranian tech trees.)

As much as I appreciate the support and suggestions. And I do understand where you are coming from since Iran does have some gaps. I do have issues with the TT selections, some major ones and some even conceptually. I’ll go one by one

Spoiler
  • Syria – Assad Regime 🇸🇾: True that the Assad Regime is cordial with Iran and even used Iranian made weapons. The main issue is that the starting time for WT is not the modern day, rather either around the 1890’s-1920’s or the end of WWII depending on the TT & line. This is critically important since Syria-Iran relations were actually quite poor due to Iran being western aligned from 1953-1979. Also Syria’s main patrons during that time period were the USSR & Egypt. In fact Egypt and Syria being in a union at one time. There’s just as much of an argument for Syria to be in an Egyptian TT than being in an Iranian TT

  • Lebanon – Lebanese armed groups 🇱🇧: Gaijin doesn’t really allow non-state actors unless if the organization in question started out as an non-state actor and later became a sanctioned part of a state (e.g: PLA). Even if non-state actors are allowed. The situation in Lebanon is so complex that you cannot add Lebanon unless all factions were under one banner or make it that there’s at least 3 or 4 Lebanese subtrees.

  • Yemen – Yemeni armed groups 🇾🇪: Has the same issues with Lebanon with the same Issues with Syria in the sense that the Houthi’s aren’t really recognized as a state actor. Even if they were they won’t add anything that would help Iran especially in Air since they have no aircraft. When considering Yemen before the Civil war and before it was unified. Again, Yemen, more specifically North Yemen was a theocratic monarchy though interestingly there’s some claims that they brought some Warsaw-Pact aircraft during the 1950’s. Once the monarchy was deposed it was under deep Egyptian Influence and like with Syria was in the same union that Syria was in. South Yemen started out as a British colony that gained independence and was under Soviet Influence.

  • Palestine: The only faction that can be realistically be added to WT is the PLO and their successor organizations since they are similar to the PLA. Again runs into the same issue with Yemen and Syria mainly that the PLO has a lot of backing from Egypt and Syria initially and Iran only stepped in later after the Revloution

  • Iraq – Popular Mobilization Forces 🇮🇶: It’s a non-state actor and Iraq has a lot of animosity towards Iran. Iraq and Iran thought the bloodiest wars since WWII in the 1980’s. It’s true that Iran did inherit a lot of Iraqi aircraft and some Iranian modified Iraqi planes were handed back recently but that’s because Iraq see’s Iran as a lesser evil in contrast to the West. Iraq can either go to South Africa via Jordan or Yugoslavia

  • Afghanistan 🇦🇫 & Tajikistan 🇹🇯: There’s just as much of a claim for these two to be in India than to Iran. Also Iran almost went to war against the First Taliban regime in 1998.

  • Sudan 🇸🇩: Same issues with Syria and Yemen except even moreso though Iran does have positive relations with Sudan and Sudan does use some Iranian build weapons.

  • Pakistan 🇵🇰: Already selected as a subtree for China so it’s excluded

  • Venezuela 🇻🇪 & Cuba 🇨🇺: These two are hard to evaluate since yes they do have strong relationships with each other though not that strong and Venezuela does use Iranian Tech (though i could be wrong with that). However there’s no real connections outside of that. There’s also a chance that they’ll be added in a LATAM or what ever Major Latin-American Nation TT (Argentina or Brazil) gets added there instead

  • North Korea 🇰🇵: It would be the other way around in the sense that Iran becomes a subtree of a United Korea TT. However there’s also a possibility that Turkey could also be a Korean Subtree at the chagrin of the Turkish player base and putting the two together would be way too much. Larger TT =/= better TT’s

  • Libya – Gaddafi Regime 🇱🇾: This is probably the best one in the list imo since both Libya (Gaddafi & the Tripoli governments) and Iran do have very close relations that were unbroken. Even then it’s not perfect since Libya and to a lesser extent Iraq also have a close relationship with the Yugoslavs.

The only other nation or nations that Iran could get is maybe Ethiopia and Eretria since Iran and Ethiopia have a very close relationships particularly in their Monarchist years. I noted this since a lot of the equipment that both nations used if they were added were used during those time periods and inherited by their subsequent revolutionary governments. There was a relationship breakdown when the military overthrow the monarchy. Not helped that the Derg and the Islamic Republic hated each other. Their relationships did improve after the Derg were deposed and the current Ethiopian regime does use Iranian built combat drones. Ethiopia does help fill in the gaps way more in the Air TT than almost every other subtree proposal. Eretria is massively anti-western and Ethiopia was after 1974-1991 despite their icy relations with Iran. Though people can already see the problems with this option as well.

The other reason is that I massively dislike subtrees especially since it’s apparent that it’s a cheap way to fill in gaps not by adding anything interesting or unique but to ruin it with Copy n Paste slop.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, I really got a lot out of it. (。・ω・。)ノ♡

I’m not a big fan of the subtree system either, but if it’s a way to get Iran into the game and improve balance against the Western bloc, I feel it could still be worth it.

iran wanted “new under development B-1 bomber”, the cammo is about that, iraq had tu-16 bombers and thats why the Shah of iran wanted B-1. also iran investments in B-1 project would have been great, but president Carter came and canceled the entire project. Shah no more was in power, Reagan came and ordered to continue the project, B-1 survived but Shah was no longer here to buy it. iran air force would have been one of the bests if Shah was still in power.
