If you go over to the Dev Server changelog you can notice that the threat detection ability of many/all the US made RWR will be severely restricted. Aircraft radars will only be detected as pulse or PD.
The changelog doesn’t mention how this will affect how they work in SB. Logically they should detect friendly radars too after the change. But this is purely a gameplay mechanic not baced in reality (unless the RWR is programmed to filter certain radar types), so maybe they will just “forget” to turn it off.
Sales are coming up and this seriously affects the F-20. It might not be worth buying after this one (if it even comes up on sale). Could Gaijin please clarify this one?
@Stona_WT could you please investigate this? My question is: Will friendly aircraft radars be detected in Simulator Battles after the changes with the affected RWRs? I believe I can’t self investigate this in the Dev Server.
I wish they would allow us to selectively activate/deactivate such elements individually. If one hides the HUD now, every overlay is gone. That’s ok for some types, for other types not.
What I really find a positive thing and something that gives me hope, is that they have now also modelled the Russian RWR displays in cockpit and RWR warning lights in western cockpits. Those are features only relevant for cockpit users (which - I assume - mostly are us Sim players), and would not really be necessary gameplay wise.
So one can hope that in the future also other cockpit elements long neglected may have some life breathed into them?
Would sure love a working weapons selection panel for my Warthogs…
It is not implemented yet then or they reversed the decision.
“AN/ALR-46 (all variants) — fighter radars and missile radars are identified as pulse and pulse-Doppler, without identifying specific models.
AN/ALR-56 (all variants)/67/68 (all variants)/69 — pulse radars of fighters other than the F-4, F-5, MiG-21 and MiG-23 are identified as pulse radars, without identification of specific models. JA37/AJ37 radar is recognized as the F-16. J-7, J-8 radars are recognized as the MiG-21.”
I’m sure this change took effect the day the DEV server started. But I didn’t log into the DEV server again for a few days. I don’t know if it was revoked.
This change is very regrettable to me, it is clear that no one can legally obtain the RWR database that matches the in-game environment (around 2010 state, because of the Pantsir S1), and maybe even the RWR database from the late 80S or 90S is still secret.
Indeed. And meanwhile the A-5C has a complete threat library! Of course there’s even less information about that one, so it’ll likely retain that amazing capability forever. And likely they will retain the possibility to detected never radar sets than existed when they were delivered, even though there’s no information about of them being updated (they would be secret documents anyway).
RWR UI should be removed from ALL aircraft and instead people should rely on the RWR on the dashboard. Russian RWR supposedly now works in cockpit on the devserver, so there is no reason to have it in the UI anymore.
I mean it makes no sense to artificially buff Russian made planes with a NATO style RWR UI.
For some aircraft, instruments like RWR display or Radar display and controls would be mounted on the dashboard of a second crew member (Navigator, WSO, RIO, whatever), and in those cases where this is the case, providing those displays also to the pilot who doesn’t have those instruments on the dashboard is a reasonable workaround, as secondary cockpits/crew stations are not modelled.
I could see the case here. Maybe the WSO could call out over the radio like in DCS instead.
But it’s not fair when a fighter without even a basic RWR instrument on the dashboard, has complete directional RWR UI with missile launch directions as well as information which type of plane it is. If they have to adjust BR over it, so be it.
I know I played some of these planes in WT, but I can’t remember which exactly are those out of my memory. Think it was something Chinese higher tier, or maybe F-5.
There are some aircraft that use the incorrect cockpit such as F4E/EJ/F/J/JUNK/K/M/S, A4E, SU25T, SU39, etc. These aircraft did not have the correct cockpit model, resulting in no RWR instrumentation.
I would not trust snail to implement it in a way that the RWR display would not be obstructed in some aircraft due to non-optimized pilot head position for example. When/if that happens you can be assured that a fix will take years. I’d hate for it to happen to my “favourite” aircraft. So I can’t support it being removed from the UI.
Well, a way tpo go could be to at least allow selectively enabling/disabling overlay elements: For some aircraft; i may want to see the RWR overlay, for others not - but if I disable the “HUD” overlay, everything is gone, even stuff not indicated properly on the gauges…
