Yes, Milan just doesn’t have good missiles, but it has the best FM and loadout of bombs
Imagine… this still hasn’t been fixed yet.
Sure, because it’s fine where it is.
Noooo man.
Have you played it?
He definitely didn’t play it.
Nothing justify a 9.7 there is much better plane at 9.0/9.3
It’s probably the same kind of people saying su-11 is not broken
Who? Me?!?
Yeah you i guess
Haha, that’s actually very funny!
As all Mirage variants, the Milan has a special place in my heart, especially as it was designed specifically with the Swiss AF in mind.
I purchased that add-on without even having to think about it at all the moment I saw it in the store and got my two Swiss AF skins of it out on Live even before the patch was officially released, one of them even ended up in a market crate, depicting a semi-fictional variant based on a real world aircraft I’ve worked on many times IRL. The Milan is my most played French aircraft both in RB and in Sim (which admittedly doesn’t say too much). I have definitely played it.
As to the topic, I still stand by my remark that it’s fine at 9.7, and - something I’ve kept mentioning again and again in all similar threads that lament the Milan - that a big part of the bad perception of the Milan Comes from it’s classification in game as fighter, where in fact it was specifically designed as an attacker, and has thus shortcomings that anyone being a bit knowledgeable about the real aircraft would not even wonder about… So flying it as a fighter based on ist WT classification (which in WT is extremely sketchy and arbitrary in many cases) one will indeed struggle…
Yeah, but even as an attacker it isnt all that good, especially since it camt defend itself.
With only one bulpup missile and no countermeasures at all, while facing all aspect missiles, radar missiles and even some really good ir missiles like the R-60’s.
Given i mindlessly bombed with it most of the time, its good, you are first to the bases, then you zoom someone before going home, pretty much Kfir Canard gameplay just at 9.7. R-60s arent much of an issue,as most just do bad launches so you can bleed it out of energy and the other missiles you can just outpull.
Really?
I get outrunned by harriers and aircraft with airspawn.
Kinda (within limitations…) can compare it to the Harrier Gr.1: No RWR or countermeasures, similar A/G capabilities, moderate AAM armament… Milan is faster, Harrier has better avionics and a better AAM’s. Both at the same BR. I’d say in role-specific performance they are quite similar.
Actually I’m not quite sure which attacker at 9.7 would be vastly superior to both Milan and Harrier. Skyhawk maybe because of it’s lavish weapon arsenal and guided weapons?
Ayit is superior to Milan, cause it gets actually useable AAMs.flares and with gunpod it also have great guns. But its slower. Meanwhile Su-7s at 9.3 are faster, no AAM,no flares so they gotta play like early Starfighters. Q-5s are also slower, turn worse, and only Q-5L have flares but neither have AAMs. So in comparison to others,Milan comes out actually good.
I see this as comparing something bad against something even worse.
Probably going to alienate myself to people here (again…), but I for my part only use vehicles I like to use.
If not, I don’t invest time and resources in them, simple as that.
So if the Milan is performing too poorly for some, well, don’t play it.
Yeah, you are alienating yourself here.
I don’t like or dislike vehicles because they are X vehicle with X playstyle.
In the case of the Milan, it can’t do the things its supposed to do IMHO, and others opinions too.
What things would that be that it can’t do, but should be able to do?
For me, it’s behaving and performing exactly as I would expect, based on my knowledge of the real aircraft and my overall playing experience in the game and knowledge of the game.
Now to an even longer and possibly even more controversial essay, haha!
I also have to ask: Why have you purchased this aircraft, specifically?
Have you done the research about it, tested it and considered how it would do in the game and fit your playstyle before you purchased it?
I believe a lot of players often just are going about getting stuff without properly considering if it’s the right thing for them, then get frustrated because what they got doesn’t meet their expectation.
Basically there are a few questions I always ask myself when it comes to getting new vehicles - especially of course ones that cost something:
-
Do I like the vehicle so much that no matter how it is in the game, I want it?
-
How is the vehicle in the game? What are its advantages and disadvantages?
-
What will my vehicle have to fight or compete against (in my preferred playstyle and game mode)?
-
Is the vehicle therefore fitting to my preferred playstyle and game mode?
-
Am I capable of using the vehicle, or am I at least willing to learn to use it?
Now the first point is fully emotional. For me for example, the question of getting aircraft like the Squadron Hunter Mk.58, P-16, Swiss F/A-18 early and also the Milan (because it’s relevant in Swiss AF’s history) was a no brainer, and I got them as quickly as they became available. I just needed to have them - if I then use them is a whole different story, admittedly…
Points 2 and 3 depend on knowledge, research and testing before I will be able to answer them in a for me useful way:
-
I will need to know something about the vehicle in question as implemented in the game, be that via information on performance, weapons, modifications as provided (statcard, X-ray, Wiki) in-game, but optimally also about the vehicle IRL. This of course also extends to the vehicles armament and implemented technologies, which I will also need to know and understand.
-
I will need to test the vehicle using the tools provided in the game. There have been quite a few cases where I was excited about a vehicle, then tried it out and found “nah, not what I expected, can’t get warm with it…”
-
I will also need to know what the vehicle will have to fight against and alongside with, to be able to compare it to those vehicles and the weapons and technologies used by friend and foe, and how that would affect how I can use my vehicle.
So those points 2 and 3 require knowledge and experience, which may be challenging and require effort, but which help a lot in making the right decision for me.
Points 4 and 5 focus on those last five words of the paragraph above: “The right decision for me”:
- Every player has his or her preferred playstyle(s): Many favour direct player vs player fights, others prefer to engage mission objectives. More shooter/arcade style, more sim style, more spontaneous and action ladden, some more tactical. Some game modes may be favored, others avoided, maps liked or disliked - there’s no right or wrong here.
The fundamental question here obviously is: What do I like?
And as logical consequence of that insight: Does the vehicle I consider getting actually fit MY playstyle and expectations?
But also not to be overlooked is the other side: Am I the right ‘choice’ for that vehicle?
-
Do I already have the knowledge and experience to use the vehicle, its weapons and technologies, of course again taking into account the environment in which I will need to operate it?
-
And if not, am I willing to learn how to use it?
-
Or will my personal capabilities limit me using the vehicle to its expected potential?
With alll those questions answered, I can then make a descision. = )
Yes, i have, it’s an expensive plane.
When the plane got added, there weren’t any R-60’s or all-aspect missiles around, so the most annoying AAM was the AIM-9G, which it can out-turn most cases.
Also, there were less premiums around that br range back in 2022-2023.
I really like the vehicle because of the history behind it.
But now, with the increasing amount of SPAA’s in GRB and highly potent missiles in ARB, the Milan is at a pretty bad spot. With only getting AIM-9B’s a mediocre CAS load-out which requires you to get very close to the enemy SPAA’s, and no countermeasures at all.
I’ve never been the attacker type of guy in ARB. I usually play strike, bomber and interceptors, in which i do pretty well most of the times.
Some vehicles like the Q-5 series are also at a very bad spot in the game, and the Milan is no other.
Yeah, that is actually indeed often a problem of Premiums or Event vehicles introduced at the higher end of the then current BR-range: While sometimes very powerful at the beginning (not the Milan, admittedly, that one never was overly powerful), they eventually get overtaken by better vehicles and tech.
Examples for this are Object 120, Harrier Gr.1 to name just two famous examples.
But only because the FOTM-magic disappears eventually, vehicles should not be forcefully changed just to keep them relevant, is my personal view.
