Funny thing is, we used to have Historical battles… shermans vs tigers, etc… and it was an absolute trainwreck. Would guess a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance they even consider something like this. Especially since you have lower BR vehicles which are much younger than what they fight… yet they are still out matched

80s is worse for smaller nations as big nations have M1A1, T80U (without thermals) and Challenger Mk 3 DS

Lets not get started on aircraft as the Su 27 has all of its 1990s and 1980s weaponry whereas the Harrier FRS1 lacks its 80s missiles and so do a lot of other aircraft
So not only would it be outclassed aircraft, you’d be lacking armament from the time period too
Then theres the matter of prototypes
There is a reason they are not serviced and its usually because they were either awful or so good they were too impossible to service efficiently
Overall unless managed well then it will be a bad time for most people
In the community where we do actually do this with like nearly 1000 people in it we make sacrifices to make it more fairsuch as, in my case as playing sweden, we allow the JA37D to represent the 1980s JA37 as it has all of its armaments expect the cockpit differs slightly but thats all (I have evidence to back this up and so do all other instances like this)
Or the T80U where in the 1980s you have to physically uninstall the thermals mod as it makes a visual armour difference
Even then we cant win it all and still suffer from the fact gaijin keeps adding vehicles with A historic loadouts
In current state Su-27 just would fight planes like a bit earlier F-15C/F-16C from 90’s. They already have AMRAAM btw

Yes some vehicles are going to be “outclassed”, but this new game mode isn’t ment to be balanced.
Prototypes are classed in three ways
- Built prototype ( stuff like the Tiger P, and Dicker Max, they were prototypes that actually were used in battle, there BR is when they entrenched service)
- Tested prototype ( stuff like the concept III, and VK 3002 M, they are given a BR based on when they were FIRST tested FULLY BUILT!)
- Paper prototype (stuff like the panther II and Ho Ri production, they are given a BR best suiting when they would have entered service)
All BR were are based on years of the vehicle not weapons
Give me examples and i will give them a BR :)

In all but armament its 1980s and so are a few other planes
And technically bc of HMD almost all aircraft in the american tech tree are 2000s bar the F4J for some reason
Gripen would also become 2000s bc of HMD
it would leave Su-27 and Mig 29S vs the Harrier FA2 and JA37Di etc etc, the poor planes that have ARH
Israeli stuff also had HMD earlier than a lot of other nations so they would also be on the forefront but they never had Aim 9m

But I can assure you majority of the player base would not play this mode in war thunders current state which is why we have special rules

Custom battles don’t go towards earning xp at all, meaning i cant research new vehicles or spade old ones

This BR is not based on equipment or weapons, but solely on years, trying to base it on weapons or equipment would be literal chaos. This is not “Historical” but more “Accurate”
That is my issue with it, its an awfully long time with 0 rewards just for “fun” as sometimes the game just does not work

I just don’t know when the Stv M/31 was accepted yet, haven’t researched that far but it was sometime between 1931 and 1933
And what about unamed modifications we have in game such as the T80B and T64B both having the 1980s mods that increase armour?
It is extremely small details that catch people out
