i cant think of a way to make CAS balanced.
how do you balance combat between ground vehicles (desgined to battle against ground vehicles) and aircraft?
the only viable solution is to severely nerf CAS, but then it would turn useless. is it possible to make CAS balanced and yet not useless, if we suppose you dont have players sitting in a boring SPAA 24/7?
this is why i think it would be sensible to either buff SPAA or nerf CAS slightly, and then shove them in a respective gamemode, away from pure ground.
so should there be a game mode thats only for cas? because if they cant use it in GRB they have no where else to go ARB is just death for a slow and heavy aircraft
CAS aircraft are completely fine in ARB, and they could still get their own mixed gamemode with both CAS and ground, so ground players play their thing and they have the choice to play in the mixed gamemode
There should be an RB EC mode with properly updated A.I and objective design, yes. Not as a PvE game mode, just a PvP game mode where more meaningful goals exist beyond TDM.
Presently, SB EC provides room for CAS. Sometimes even I, a self-admitted fighter-main, will find myself resorting to CAS in SB EC because our tickets are tight and there’s a bunch of juicy tanks/SPAA that need to be strafed or dive bombed and they cost lots of tickets to lose. Or simply join a streamer doing memes/larps and go do torpedo runs on boats (I wish boats gave better rewards for teamplay. We should have score for damage like in naval, not just for kills as a big boat can take 3-4 hellcats dropping torpedos to kill).
i dont find SPAA boring and also a LOT of them are useable against aircraft even top tier one i really dont understand you guys saying “SPAAs cant kill planes” or “SPAA is useless” when its not its just higher skill curve. all im seeing is the extreme opposite of the cas main.
yes i also enjoy SPAA but not anymore when its completely mandatory, especially when nobody else plays them. im not gonna be sitting in SPAA for the rest of my life just to avoid CAS
there is nothing “skill curve” about the pantsir radar being spastic and not seeing a difference between a small AGM and a massive boat of a CAS aircraft.
not to mention the firing speed limit, and the sheer range from which CAS launches from (and without any sort of limit to how fast you can launch missiles).
top tier CAS is just fighters so theyre fine, and other planes like a10 or su25 just have a different playstyle, but they have enough armament and survivability at their BR to be usable. theyre still not fighters but theyre not useless.
low tier aircraft might be worse off, if theyre not specifically fighters, but i think thats a separate issue
SPAA at props only tends to be dumb for convoys (they’re dumb and need fixing). At tank battles, I can usually make 2-3 strafing passes before SPAA can get a hit on me in the Mustang Ia or hellcat. Imagine IL-2s are more vulnerable as they’re low and slow.
I won’t claim EC isn’t without issues. There’s tons of bugs, the convoy objective is impossible to contest in WW2 planes and ground battles sometimes don’t spawn for… reasons. Boats need better reward system due to effort needed and the UA cycle needs adjustment.
But at prop tiers at least, there’s quite the room for effective, fun and impactful CAS usage as wingaling’s videos demonstrate and as my own experience indicates. Sometimes you might need a dedicated escort though, but those imo are the coolest moments (big contests over a tank battle where two teams try to kill an Su/Il doing level bombing or keep it alive or formation flight).
Idk about jets though. I occasionally try them in SB but I prefer guns to missiles so I usually don’t have fun.
that might be a bug? last i remember it was able to shoot people down shortly after them spawning this is from someone who would spawn CAS/CAP even trying to fly ultra low didnt seem to help
even the tank battles that spawn will send you back to the spawn menu its broken. like you can knock out all but one spaa and if you try to get close for either dumbbombs or weapons that need to be closer itll take you out.
Hmm, what I mean to say is that everybody would be playing the tanks only mode, making the mixed mode completely useless and unplayable. Everyone would either be on a plane or on a SPAA (unless you are on a tank and want to get bombed by half the enemy team). If they made a tanks only mode, the final result would be the erasure of the mixed battles one, as either nobody would play it or it would be disliked. Have in account that CAS players need ground objectives and technically, SPAAs are able to intercept munitions. So you’d basically have 20 missiles coming at you from different angles, dumb munitions and planes. It sure does not sound cool unless you like intercepting munitions. Also, anti-air systems have limited ammo, so you’d either die while trying or you’d have to go cap a point. I’d love to see SPAAs fighting for a point with nothing to attack/defend themselves (besides the ones that do have guns). The match would then be decided by who spawned something first and of course, matchmaking would have a huge role here, as some countries have better planes and some better SPAAs.
Theyd still have the Kh-38ML, which still outranges every SAM ingame and flies at M2.0+, so its not like their CAS would be bad, they just would have to guide each weapon in and care about the beam and would lose thermals on the Su-34 (the su-30sm would still have thermals with its pod, but would lose 1 Kh-38ML to carry it iirc)
