it pains me greatly that the old forum was not in some form converted to the new forum as archived posts. Most of war thunder’s storied history will be lost.
No doubt, Ive only just begun to get on the forum in the last few months, but you are right, I would like to see some of that. I have been playing since Beta.
I really love Warthunder, besides exercising, I will admit it is my main hobby. When I was a kid I used to buy 100 sheets of white paper cheap, fold them all up into about 3 different planes and then my bed was the aircraft carrier lol.
I went about 7 years without playing, never liked jets then, but got into them about a year ago, and now I have a few props I like, but they just dont have the power, and I have discovered bombing, something I didnt mess with in props for the lack of power, and lol, a ballistic computer.
I dont always play “seriously”, I like to see what the planes can do in different scenarios, or take a Mig29smt and go try to destroy Roland with laser guided missiles,…but Im not statistically driven now and I think Im a better pilot for it when I am straight out to kill and play serious.
Just for poops and laughs, check out the website WDMMA Global Air Powers Rankings. You will be glad to know that US and her allies occupy 8 out of the 10 first spots…USMC Air Corps actually rank number 5 in the world, as the different branches of the US services are represented.
Mate I jumped with 27 Marines at Airborne School and I knew none of them would drop out…you guys have a fantastic espirit de corps.
I like aircraft really well, …maybe next in WT, helicopters. Thanks for responding and once again, Good Luck
You know what, because of your post I actually went and tightened up some of my decals on my planes, looked at a couple and they were kind of raggedy and gaudy lol.
Morvan, I played for awhile as Commander Bond, I was always a James Bond fan and Sean Connery was my fav…Daniel Craig grew on me. And so I do like the British Naval uniform, but tell me, why did you pick your nickname?
LOL by the way, favorite Bond song, Thunderball, by Sir Tom Jones, as an older man you can see that on BBC performances, also, on the same performance Dame Shirley Bassey kills it on “Diamonds Are Forever”…James Bond is a Royal Naval Reserve Commander, which didn’t match up well with my Marshall Level lol. I miss that nick.
just that ,Stona" is a trademarked name ;D
Modern combat aircraft are cool : )
I’m finding I have a great fondness for CAS and event jets. I now spend a fair amount of time on websites like f16 net just learning about how various nations upgraded their F-16s to be able to perform CAS in a modern way. In general, the specific details of how various air forces are actually equipped and employ their birds, when discovered, reveals absolutely bizarre power dynamics that aren’t always what you’d expect just seeing “oh this air force has F16s, that air force has Flankers”
For instance, all the most air to ground capable Flanker variants excluding Su-34 are arguably in Indian Air Force hands. Runners up are in PLAAF, RMAF, Algerian AF, etc.
The first air arm to field Russia’s navalized MiG-29K was… the Indian Navy??? And the MiG-29K and the Russian service KR are, chronologically, contemporaries of the F-35B in IOC dates?
For a period of roughly the 1990s until the mid to late 2010s (for unspecified reasons that will remain unspecified), almost all R-77 variants actually produced were produced for export, and far more of the missiles were in foreign hands than in Russian service, to a degree that, arguably, despite being in production, until the Russian government actually purchased a bunch of R-77s in the late 2010s, R-77 was borderline vaporware in Russian service and the only known example of it being mounted on an operational combat aircraft only happened in Syria in 2019 or something like that.
Nowadays, Russia has tons of R-77s in service. But until RECENT MEMORY, their radar missiles were almost completely SARH R-27 variants.
Su-33 vs MiG-29KR/KUBR capabilities are also trippy to compare. Flankers are generally considered more capable jets but it just didn’t always go down that way.
Shout out to MiG-29K/KUB/KR/KUBR, my favorite Russian jet. <3
Seeing ALTIS TGP on a Thai F-16A makes me really happy. The RTAF F-16A is my favorite F-16 in the game despite all logic.
I love encountering Airborne. You guys are the Army’s soul.
I love artillery units, though. Fire missions are fun : D
Changed my nick by the way, tired of the last one, too cartoonish…I feel like my Warthunder airforce are “MY” planes lol. Mig 29 and Mig29smt were my favorite planes in WT until the fox 3 era started, both Mig 29s (USSR) now have their flight performance back, but the r77s are questionable in game now.
Thank you for that info that was interesting.
Harry Truman was in Artillery in WW2, yes those howitzers are pretty amazing. Napoleon utilized artillery better than anyone else of that time period.
I will say mate, once a paratrooper, always a paratrooper. However, I have often thought after my experience with most Marines, I would have went into that service and went to Sniper school looking back.
My tanks have little Union Jacks on the back of the turret and RAF roundels on the engine deck, in case I ever put more effort into Sim Battles. (So far no friendly fire on my scimitar from any A-10s so it seems to be working…)
My planes have orange noses and the Wing Co pennant on the fuselage because it looks fairly distinctive…
As for pfp, haven’t been bothered to change it since I spent all my time in bombers.
It means Wednesday(s) in portuguese
So it does mean something then lol
I use “cannon fodder” as my like title so my teammates can’t blame me for being bad, and my avatar is the warfare 2077 avatar since the tank commander looks like he doesn’t really know what he’s doing lol.
