Have War Thunder Lost its roots? Did modern vehicles ruin this game?

One other thing i can think of is the VBCI-2 (MCT30) for france. Sure its huge. But it would have been the first recon vehicle for france

I just realise most actually unique vehicle is not TT. What the actual heck?!

I swear if the either dont add open top terrain cars with anti tank weaponry. Or worse add the as part of events or puts it behind any major paywall im going to have a mental breakdown. My personal favorate vehicle is the Swedish Pvtgb 9031

The moment air rb stopped being sabers vs migs, and they added cum rag post ww2 tanks fighting WW2 vehicles, the game was dead to me. Seven or eight years ago and the game has been in a freefall of both game quality and community quality.

The game started as an actually pretty immersive psuedo-sim of ww2 and early cold war and has slowly but surely became a fully arcade zero immersion, no care for historicity at all. Mostly due to matchmaking now preferring fake matchups (ie, usa/germany versus ussr/uk/japan at 4.0) to real ones (allies v axis, nato v warsaw, etc, any actual “thought up” scenario) as well as BR compression causing things that have no business facing each other to… face each other.

If this were true, you wouldn’t still be playing it, let alone hanging around its internet forum to complain about something from almost a decade ago.

I mean you have a point

AEC II… ☹️ (though we had two chances on that).

Had to wait until SA additions before having anything in the tree apart from the Crusader II all the way to 8.0.

Haven’t had the heavy tank gap filled between the Churchill mk7 and Caernarvon since the tree was added. Not a single one. They did add the black Prince though they were very clear because only 6 were built and it was a prototype it couldn’t be anything but a premium…

Yeah, I think itost a lot of its charm. I hate going into WWII era vehicles and seeing stupid vehicles from the 70s rolling around. It’s lost a lot of the appeal and feels more arcadey than ever. The commercials that say all this crap about realism need to stop now. They are a blatant lie.

I think if we had kept the division between eras clear - this wouldn’t be an issue. Not trying to make people happy by adding vehicles that didn’t exist or whatever in the name of “balance”. Now that cycle won’t stop because someone always gets the short end of the stick. So we slap random nations together or just add vehicles that were not even in prototype phases.

You will never get an answer that means anything when you talk about this subject. Some players wish the game didn’t progress past WW2, and then there are players that are happy that it did. If you look at the lifecycle of a game such as Warthunder, having more vehicles means a longer lifecycle. More content means more of the game to enjoy which results in the game staying around.

People also need to stop taking Warthunder so seriously. It isn’t an esports title, it is a recreational vehicle combat game. Not everything needs to be facing historically accurate vehicles in historically accurate settings. The game is for military vehicle enthusiasts to enjoy the opportunity to play their favorite vehicles.

Warthunder is also a massively complicated game which will always cause growing pains. There are thousands of vehicles with near-arcuate modeling and many complicated systems in place to make everything work correctly. All while having these complicated vehicles work from the point of a single user. It isn’t perfect, but it is a damn good game that offers more than any other game in it’s genre.

I just wish War thunder had split ww2 stuff from modern stuff like WoT did.

That’s not what realism means, what you’re referring to historically accuracy. Besides this a vehicle combat game not a historical mil sim.

That wouldn’t be a good thing for Warthunder. Warthunder’s balance depends on counters, and those counters usually come from higher BR vehicles dampening stronger vehicles. Just like the Maus in World of Tanks, the Maus in Warthunder would be the supreme spammed vehicle is there was a WW2/Cold war split. A heavy tank/armor meta is not very exciting and can make games feel stale because the powerful vehicles just sit and absorb everything instead of being overcome.

Heavy target, meet CAS w big bomb. = A Very Dead Heavy Target. There are good counters.

Besides Aircraft are already the bane of heavy tanks existance

Anyway, i do see your point

No, aircraft can’t be considered good counters to ground vehicles in terms of balancing. I say that because aircraft trees require a whole separate effort to unlock and acquire. If a player does not wish to ever play aircraft, then they should be able to have a counter for other ground vehicles. Not saying bombs aren’t effective counters, but they shouldn’t be the only counters.

True,

Realism implies realistic. In what regard is this game realistic anymore?

Diesel exploding like a bomb? I can tell you it takes a lot of gasoline to get diesel going and even then it doesn’t burn long. We used it to start burns all the time.

ERA that eats sabot rounds? Missiles with historically horrible accuracy being almost perfect? Vehicles that get nerfed or buffed because their real life values are too weak or too powerful to match an in game “balance”. Reload rates being adjusted because it makes people happy. Too many flares on an aircraft because you can run away - needed.

No, it’s not a military simulator, but it’s not realistic. That aspect was removed to entirety a few years back. This is a small list. I could go for a long time if you want…

Bonus: Don’t forget that we can just separate bombers into a million pieces with our guns.

100% agree.
It seems majority are not even here to enjoy the game or play diff vehicles.

Kinda devolved into a shallow cock flexing show. the value of the matches have devolved and the mentality of playerbase is that of a severely disinterested individual unless everything is in their favour.

People dont seem to enjoy playing the vehicles, good or bad and just want to grind or flex vehicles.

Its like no-one wants to actually play or have a good match, they just want to be at the top of leaderboard with minimal effort, regardless of the vehicles they use.

The game went downhill for me about 4 years ago.

I was also thinking that timeframe 4-6 or so.

Did COVID kill it? 🤣

In may ways. The flight physics are realistic, the radar and aircraft Operation is realistic. The damage modelling in air battles is somewhat realistic. It has issues but it isn’t comical.

Diesel is a combustible. It needs to be sprayed but a shell impacting should do the trick.
I mean we aren’t talking about a motionless puddle here.

None of this is realism. These are historical accuracy/authenticity issues but not realism issues. Missiles can be accurate a missile not behaving like the missile it pretends to be is still realistic if a unspecific missile can behave this way. Realism is actually a really weak condition. People need to distinguish it from accuracy.

For something to be unrealistic you need something that defies physics like magic.
