the quality or fact of representing a person, thing, or situation accurately or in a way that is true to life.
It doesn’t have to be magic, but it does need some level of authenticity. Which is no longer there. Your definition allows you to redifine what’s realistic and what’s not…
Realism, in the arts, the accurate, detailed, unembellished depiction of nature or of contemporary life. Realism rejects imaginative idealization in favour of a close observation of outward appearances.
There is the dictionary values for Realism. As you can see this game does quite a lot of embellishments and allows for a lot of imaginative thinking.
One of the major unrealistic factors of the game is that real-world actual problems are ignored for many of the vehicles in the game, especially premiums/event or other specials. There is a reason why these are not well known they failed in the drawing/prototype phase due to limitations in the knowledge and understanding of the science and the limits of materials and metallurgy at that time.
But in Fantasy Thunder these are all ignored or miraculously fixed. Not to mention the other elements such as a complete engine replacement in the middle of a battle !
Yeah that’s because it’s a video game. Gaijin has admitted they don’t model malfunction’s as it would make the game less fun and cause massive headaches.
Game ruined by top-executives,who doesn’t even know what this game about.outsourcing…they still searching for the original code, they lost.those 2guys,who made it-disappeared in hell.
Okay, i have a idea. Lets make another game that mimics War thunder with the Damage System, and that stuff. Then use modern engines and that stuff it will likely take 10 years and then likely get sued…
when it comes to modern vehicles i don’t think they directly ruined the game, i think it was only a matter of time before they were introduced. While i mostly care about up to somewhere around Rank V (late WW2 up to Korea), i’d be lying if i said that the rest of the ranks didn’t interest me.
I believe the problem is that they were introduced too quickly, without allowing the game to adapt properly as they were introduced (where it would have actually adapted is object of its own discussion) and we have been seeing results of this for quite a while: the grind, BR compression, small maps, overall neglected game modes, exc.
Indeed, realism vs authenticity. Autoloaders aside, reload speeds are a human factor, thus can be adjusted freely within a reasonable window as needed.
I am having the same problem with more modern vehicles. Beyond WW2, there were no major tank battles or aircraft duels therefore every tank/plane is based on some user manual or documentation. Some armor values are outright wrong, Gaijin is having liberty of which public official document to take serious and then, there is volumetric armor bullshit that happens more with modern tanks than older ones with mostly flat surfaces.
Only reason I am playing it still is because there is still no competition for this game despite 11 years passing. What a shame it is because anyone would easily do better than gaijin.
The problem is that to be a competitor, the game concept would need to be similar but different from WT, plus Gaijin has patents on algorithms related to mouse control (basically the instructor).
This was literally from the start in 2014.
M46 is a post war vehicle. And Maus was the next major update, another post-war vehicle.
There was never a time WW2 vehicles didn’t face early cold war, nor should there be such a time.
Balance and realism > Wunderwaffe.
@Balanced_Game
I’m glad War Thunder is the most immersive realistic sim its ever been. Strides in improvement.
Physics, guns, tanks, aircraft, etc.
ERA defeats APFSDS IRL.
Missiles with historically horrible accuracy have historically horrible accuracy in War Thunder.
Reload is slower than real life reloads on everything except Leclerc and AMX-13.
Vehicle nerf/buffing isn’t a thing in this game.
The only aircraft with too many flares is F-4s, which will be fixed next major update.
This is a simulator that’s realistic. It was added a few years back and continues to be added.
I bet you play arcade games like Insurgency, Arma, or Squad and enjoy them just fine.
Yet realism such as War Thunder or DCS? Not sure why you oppose that.
You even provide proof that history has nothing to do with realism:
This definition proves War Thunder and DCS are the most realistic combat games.
@Wummele1
It’s better to assume parity manufacturing, and is realistic.
@Lugenpresse
There is competition: DCS.
And the primary reason there’s no further competition than DCS and War Thunder is because of how good they are.
Not even EA could make a product as good as War Thunder or DCS.
Yes, you get forced, if you are running premium time and you lose 60% of your RP for researching a vehicle that is more than 1 Rank higher. Up to 90% RP lost for bigger Rank spread. You also are forced to play another tt, if all your vehicles are researched and all the earned RP goes into snail’s black hole. The same thing can go for fully upgraded crews for all 3 branches. 12 years of grind that gaijin has made the main focus on and then, suddenly, you feel you are wasting your time playing fully upgraded trees/vehicles/crews (that’s with the premium time still running). No proper rewards for getting to the finish line except some silly title.
Some newer trees are not enough fleshed out to start researching for me and I hate playing stock crews again, especially that Israel starts from Rank IV.
The vehicles themselves are the rewards.
The fact that people are addicted to the grind rather than the vehicles they play is misunderstanding what WT is about.
I’m saying that gaijin has made the grind the focus of the game, instead of creating new game playing options for the vehicles you have. Back in the day it was that you were supposed to get some vehicles ready for what’s to come, but that has never materialized except the failed attempt for the World War mode and EC from time to time.
The grind is the main content, unfortunately. How are you going to play and enjoy thousands of vehicles that are in this game when tomorrow you get a new “flavor of the month” one?
I have pretty much all the tanks I enjoy, but I don’t play them for years now due to endless steamrolls and CAS. Even Naval is much more steamrolly now, ever since the last big update.
You have to just like what you’ve already got. Most people have whole lineups of tanks they hardly play because they are always trying to grind some task or event for a vehicle they don’t really even need with whatever tools they have that are most efficient. Never worry about what will come, enjoy what has come before.
