It sounds good.
Where did it start to go wrong?
2019 or 2020 imo
They started to add modern jets since late 2018 to 2019 but, they couldn’t balance it.
Funny how so many aircrafts ruined matchmakers such as T-2, Hunter F.6, F-4C, MiG-21SMT, etc.
Now myself personally I haven’t been around very long, starting in 2018, but I certainly see a massive decline in the game since then. I (And many friend who played before me) agree that 2018 was the peak of the game, if not slightly earlier. I feel like modern planes and tanks are cool and stuff - but only to some people. I am okay with playing modern planes sometimes but I cannot for the life of me withstand ground, hence only grinding to 8.0 in Germany and 7.7 in Britain, yet having rank VIII in air for Britain and Japan. Despite playing on an old Toshiba in 2018 with maybe 15 - 20 FPS max, I was enjoying it so much more than I am now even though I could BARELY get a single kill.
I absolutely adored having proper dogfights with people and pretending I was actually in the sky fighting good opponents, now no offense to the newer players but now whenever I go into ARB anywhere outside of 5.7 - 9.0 I find that everybody is just intent on grinding and not actually fighting, and everything seems so point and click to me. Tanks is very much the same, except I suck excessively with tanks. All of the experienced players tend to stick around BRs which aren’t plagued with pay to win noobs who respectfully don’t know anything - which isn’t their fault - because gaijin decided they would get more money letting people pay for top tier than learning the game and spending money because they enjoy it.
I agree with this (preferably I’d like a ratio of WW2:Modern being more 60:40 or 70:30 but I know that’s never ever ever going to happen :)
Yaint?!
I dont like the focus of the devs. There is basically just content for high-top tier, even tho there is enough to be done in lower tiers. I dont like that the minor TTs get absolutely ignored even tho the implimentation of new vehicles is pretty basic.
We just have to accept that WT is now in its Cash Cow phase and probably gonna disapear in the next 4-5 years.
The only thing I think ruined the game around 6RB is the flood of artillery that one shot kills everything. 2s1 and M109. The bakan is stupid with WW2 tanks at that BR. Real shame they did that.
This can only be answered by devs.
Despite our polls, nothing will happen.
I made a poll on this:
Hi,
in my opinion that not a problem like “vehicles ruin game”. The problem is game are not prepared for modern vehicles. People are not prepared.
Why game are not prepared ? Because u can see, what “magic trick” they need to do with balance vehicles. Also “penetration”/damage system are not prepared for tungstein penetrators from APFSDS shells, which working much different than “standard” AP shells. And on this forum, many times, many ppl show how incompetent that system is. But “devs” have their own way, and this way is called - money.
Why ppl are not prepared ? Because all map topics on that have same conclusion - make smaller map because “cas bois” can’t hit the target when map are bigger. And other “sKiLl iSSuE” players complained, they don’t see enemy after 3 second after spawn. And now, u have a typical TOP BR battle, where u have map 1km x 1km (xDD) where fight tanks like Abrams/Leopard/T-80, where everything is focused on that, who was faster or who has more “skill” to find pixel size point on enemy tank. After die in tank, u go into plane and drop bomb / rocket from max range. And that was “War Thunder” in 2024.
…and that killed WT what i knew from years ago
“Have War Thunder Lost its roots?”
Yes.
“Did modern vehicles ruin this game?”
Yes. Not because they themselves are bad or not fun, but because it has greatly diminished care and concern for older eras on Gaijin’s end.
Yes it have.
And last 2 years were horrible with this year beign an absolute apogeum of neglection of WWII and early cold war content. Like there are patches where people like me don’t have anything new to play exept for new naval stuff. And imo not adding new early cold war planes (golden age of aviation mind you) or completing WWII trees is a middle finger to the veterans that play this game since beta now.
Correction: 1 hour matches where everyone was grinding instead of fighting each other.
Today everyone’s focused on fighting each other and less on progression.
Top BR isn’t the focus anymore.
A classic Alvis comment as usual. So we just ignore the modern Chinese Jets, new Aardvaarks, new Harrier, new PUMA, new chinese MBT’s etc.
Once again the Update adds a majority of modern stuff, hardly any WW2, Interwar and Great War content.
Gaijin focus on modern vehicles because it’s what get them money.
it’s simple as that. Adding a 30k RP, 200k SL new WW2 vehicles don’t bring anything to Gaijin. It’s dev time used for something any player grinds in 5 matches.
The grind is the only content Warthunder has. It has nothing else to offer. Just keep chasing the new 400k RP vehicle and play them in the same stale game mode with garbage maps. They use the grind to hide the fact the game is completely empty and devoid of purpose. It’s soulless.
It’s quite obvious Gaijin doesn’t care. They never cared. They just take the money, underpay 10 or so devs to get out the new vehicles and one or two half broken mechanics and call it a day.
At this point, the only way for the game to evolve would be for a big publisher to buy Gaijin, take a look at the mess and force them to actually work on improving the game itself. Adding new vehicles was never the problem of warthunder. Everything else around them is.
Why would you presume that? It’s more likely to be adults and older players who spend big not children. I only play WW2 and had pretty much every German WW2 premium they did plus 3 years premium time. Many older players have an interest in WW2.
You’re an exception. And you’re not bringing any money by playing only WW2.
Top tier sells. Did you see the current price of the F14 IRIAF ? And it keep going up. And they’re absolutely flooding the matchmaking.
How does a child get 70 dollars on a credit card? on a regular basis?
I am one of many thousands of players supposedly so how do you know I am an exception? There is sense in making WW2 popular and adding models for enthusiasts it’s just there isn’t much to add. Gaijin probably make just as much from bushes and crew skills or camos even though you can earn them. The small things add up.
It makes a certain amount of sense to think one death leaving is players with one premium but if that was so destructive then Gaijin would simply give them multi lives like they do with the M51
I have spent more than I should just playing WW2, it’s only the destruction of the maps that really made me stop. For me I see it as a cheap night in sometimes.
Many of the ships are WW2 even WW1
Imho it’s also very much about gameplay. In aircraft battles, props are now FILLED with people that play only to farm SL to fund their modern tank gameplay or to simply grind to top tier. This created a giant skill decrease in the last 3 years (especially noticeable at br 5.3-6.3) and a spam of bombers /attacckers (especially Ju288Cs) that ruined the gameplay quite a bit
Couldn’t agree more with this
Yes, the bloody idea of cramming toptier into tiny maps is “redacted”
This is rarely a game of tactics or cunning, but a game of ramming into each other as fast as we can and see who comes out on top.
Gaijin has “redacted” top tier in the most “redacted” horrible way.
Its PERFECT for the tiktok generation with the attention span of a fruit fly.
Have you even played once in air RB past BR 10.0 ? Heck, past BR 8.3.
There’s entire lobbies which are full of 70$ premium aircraft.
11.3-12.0 is filled to the brim with F4S and Mig23. Hundreds of them.
It’s very naive to think high tier isn’t what get Gaijin this much money. People buy premium time to grind top tier. People straight up convert RP to grind the latest 400k RP aircraft on patch day.
