Has automatic wing sweep broke or something?

I was playing the Tornado F.3, and was in a shallow dive, AB off, and I saw for a fleeting second “reduce speed” so I cut my throttle, then my wing snapped and I found out it was in the 0% sweep, leading to my death. Was this something to do with my high packet loss issue or control input or…?

In my experience the Tornados always were a bit tricky in this regard, accelerating so fast that automatic wing sweep can’t keep up with the reaching of structural limits.

That’s why I use manual wing sweep exclusively on the Tornado.

I would but I was focusing on radar fighting so I wanted to simplify it, thanks tho

Well, I fly the mud movers only so far, so in a interdiction/attack scenario you don’t have to expect a lot of speed changes: You get in fast, you get out fast. Configuration of wing sweep is done soon after take of, way before crossing the front line, and then shortly before landing.

For the F.3/ADV of course that’s very different in a dogfight scenario with constantly changing speeds and maneuvering.

I guess so, I would have stuck to be more cautious but there was one guy left… I got greedy and paid the price

Ah yes, the most dangerous trap of all…

Biting off more than I can chew is probably the most common reason of death especially (but not only) in the Tornado. Those “let’s quickly deviate a bit to try to engage that spot on the horizon” decisions are an exceptionally dumb way to die.

Yeah I just chased an F-16 back to his airfield, because again he was the last guy, killed him but a roland took off ONLY my right hand vertical stabilizer and I lost control lmao

Some time ago there were fligh model changes made. After these changes whenever I fly with russian wing-sweep jets I experience similar issue. When I’m close to 0.95 mach my wings want to fell off, and after another few seconds they start to sweep to its maximum.

Well, me being too lazy to memorize all my aircraft’s speed limits have gone over to edit gauges to include those limits:
image

  • White band is safe undercarriage operation, stopping at the stall speed
  • Blue marker is (roughly) touch-down speed
  • Red marker is max. speed for landing flaps
  • Yellow marker is max. speed for take-off flaps
  • Green marker is max. speed for combat flaps
  • Orange band is structural limit depending on wing sweep (Tornado only. Anything within the orange band is safe only with fully swept wings)

I’m even more lazy to edit gauges :) Some time ago I edited gun collimators in aircrafts I use in sim. But after my raid 0 volume failure I lost all data.
Now I’m using WTRTI where I can set sound alarm for flaps, landing gear, airbrake, critical speed etc :)
