Situated in the southernmost part of Japan, Kagoshima has historically been an important port. It earned the nickname “Naples of the East” thanks to its access to the sea, hot climate, and fantastic views of Mount Sakurajima, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Take part in this new naval event in War Thunder and get themed decals, the IJN Shisaka and a loading screen depicting the ship against the backdrop of Mount Sakurajima!

From July 23rd (11:00 GMT) until August 6th (11:00 GMT), earn mission points in Naval Battles, unlock stages and receive rewards!

IJN Shisaka

Frigate Event Vehicle for Japan at Rank V

IJN Shisaka was laid down in Japan in 1944 and ended up in service with the Chinese Navy after the war and remained in service until 1990. In War Thunder, IJN Shisaka will be one of the best Coastal fleet ships — it’s a slow but well-armed frigate with three 120 mm guns and a large number of depth charges on six side mortar launchers and two stern depth charge racks. Thanks to an extensive battery of 25 mm guns, IJN Shisaka can be a great anti-air ship for your team!

Other rewards:

  • Special decal

“IJN Shisaka” loading screen

Among the rewards in the event is also this chest. When opened, there is a chance of receiving one of the following items:

  • 50,000 - 100,000 Silver Lions
  • Silver Lion and Research Point boosters
  • Random Wagers and Orders
  • Universal Backups (1 - 3)
  • A random camouflage for a vehicle you own
  • 1 day of Premium Account

How to get all rewards

Each stage can be obtained for 35,000 mission points, where every new stage obtained will give you a new reward.

Please note: After finishing a stage, you need to collect the reward manually. To do this, click on your name in-game, go to “The Naples of the East” and click the “Get Reward” button.

You’re able to earn mission points in Naval Battles at Rank III or above in Arcade and Realistic Battles. The number of mission points to complete a stage depends on the game mode and the maximum Rank of the vehicle that you use in battle. There’s a multiplier for earning mission points, which is shown in the task description in-game.

You can also earn mission points by using event vehicles that are Rank I and II. Event vehicles that can be used have the name of the event that they were obtainable in on their stat card.

Stages change every two days at 11:00 GMT on July 25th, 27th, 29th and 31st, August 2nd, August 4th

Rewards are given when you complete a specific number of stages

  • For 1 Stage: trophy with a random reward
  • For 2 Stages: special decal
  • For 3 Stages: trophy with a random reward
  • For 4 Stages: special decal
  • For 5 Stages: trophy with a random reward
  • For 6 Stages: “IJN Shisaka” loading screen
  • For 7 Stages: non-tradable coupon for IJN Shisaka

Discounts on purchasing stages using Golden Eagles

Incomplete stages can be purchased for Golden Eagles, but if you’re significantly close to completing a stage, its price will now be significantly reduced.

Let’s say you have earned 85% of the required mission points to complete a stage, then the price of purchasing this stage will be halved. If you’re near the finish line for a stage and are at 95% progress, then the price will be reduced by five times. For example, if you’ve scored 30,000 mission points, then the price for unlocking this stage will be 499 Golden Eagles. If you’ve scored 33,500 mission points, then you’ll only need to pay 199 Golden Eagles. Remember to keep this in mind if you cannot complete a stage on time!

The Upgrade for a coupon

When you complete 7 stages, you’ll receive a non-tradable coupon for IJN Shisaka, where using it will immediately activate the vehicle onto your account. If you don’t want the vehicle and would like to sell the coupon on the Market, you’ll need the “Upgrade for coupon” item.

The “Upgrade for coupon” item can be earned in parallel with the stages throughout the event from July 23rd (11:00 GMT) until August 6th (11:00 GMT) for 600,000 mission points.

After receiving the “Upgrade for coupon” item, you can convert a non-tradable coupon for the vehicle into a tradable one and sell it on the Market. The tradable coupon can be sold after 6 days from the moment it’s created.

The “Upgrade for coupon” item is valid until August 10th (11:00 GMT). Until this time, you can use it or exchange it for War Bonds. Afterwards, it’ll disappear from your inventory.

To create a tradable coupon, select the “Coupon IJN Shisaka (Japan)” in your inventory and click the “Modify” button.

You can track the progress of completing stages and receiving the “Upgrade for coupon” by clicking on your Nickname > Achievements > Naples of the East. If you don’t manage to complete a stage on time or would like to purchase a stage, until August 11th from the Achievements window, you can purchase each stage with Golden Eagles which will give you the corresponding rewards.

One of the best coastal fleet ships…

Yeah IDK about that chief, considering the forward magazines for the Type 96 are larger then the models on the Kongō class & easily set off the Shōnan ingame, this will be quite ehh tbh.

The only part it’s alright is the BR & the artillery strike the Hiburi class Kaibōkan gets an add in the changes to HE two updates back will make those 120 mm work but even then as a “frigate/gunboat” the DM is worse then destroyers ntm secondary & tertiary batteries will light it up.

Still it’s a pretty colour scheme for the Kaibōkan Shisaka (niche the sister in game along with one other vessel is the only Imperial Japanese ships without the Ahistorical prefix IJN on them).

INB4 <5 snail bucks on the marketplace

Well we wouldn’t be here had the devs just like the ship follow inplace of the T-34-85, same as last year now as there’ll be another ship event after this one.

So we waited for 3 months only to get a mediocre coastal boat.

Definitely will skip this one.

to each his own and all that, but following a massive battleship update with a dinky little frigate event is pretty disappointing

then again its basically free, so no real reason for complaint

Honestly not bad if it only ends up selling for five bucks, as much as I despise playing the sistership (ohh how I hated when it only had two cannons), it’s a Rank V ship which at least gives it a boon to researching Rank IV / V.

To bad we’ll never see another Premium event Frigate post 2.01 with the Type F120 Frigate Lübeck F224 being the only one.

I cant lie i would’ve preferred a cruiser

I actually was looking forward to a boat. Just not a useless one 😞 ffs.

what a boring way to begin the week, send them sl crates gaijin.

Whoever made this camo managed to turn a historical one into a Twitch drop looking ah neon-fantasy monstrosity.
Hopefully its just the loading screen and it wont look like that in-game

SKR-7 exists for free if you want to do coastal missions for the BP and if you want to unironically play "high’ tier coastal then you probably should see a doctor

Called it:

Not even a gap filler, when Japan already has 4 BR 3.3 frigates, including one GE premium, sadly.

You forgot to mention that IJN Shisaka is a Hiburi-class escort ship. In fact, we already have Syonan in the Japanese tech tree, and IJN Shisaka will be very similar to it.

I believe this description was written around 2022, because it doesn’t really make sense in 2025. Syonan used to be a very solid vessel a few years ago, before major changes to HE shell mechanics in Naval and the introduction of many rapid-firing frigates that quickly became the meta.

Depth charges have never really been useful, so their number is irrelevant in practice. As for the 25 mm guns - they definitely don’t make it a “great anti-air ship” anymore. In recent years, HE-VT shells have become the dominant choice for anti-aircraft defense, and this ship most likely won’t have them. And no, HE-TF is not the same as HE-VT.

Overall, I would recommend playing Syonan about 3 years ago, back then it was a very good ship. But in the current meta, there are much better options available.

Since I cant see it anywhere in the devblog, can we expect the return of SL lootboxes for this event?
